Iona Prep’s Ty Jerome, Spring Valley’s Rickey McGill, Kennedy’s Elijah Hughes, Woodlands’ Jamil Gambari and Haldane’s Peter Hoffmann headlined the list of locals honored as all-state by the New York State Sportswriters Association.
The NYSSWA released its Class B, C and D teams last week and released its Class AA and A teams this morning. As a first-team pick, Jerome (pictured above) was the top local player honored in Class AA, but he was joined by several other notable Section 1 and local CHSAA players, including teammates Matt Ryan and Tom Capuano.
Here’s a look at all of the local players who were named all-state in Classes AA and A. Wings big man Jessie Govan earned player of the year in Class AA. Scotia-Glenville’s Joe Cremo and Canisius’ LaTerrance Reed earned the top honor in Class A.
In Class B, Gambari (pictured left) earned first-team honors for a second straight season after helping lead Woodlands to the state final, but he was joined on the all-state team by teammates Pierre Lys, Brandon Johnson and Ross Joseph.
Hoffmann was the top local pick in Class C, earning first-team honors again. Teammate Edmund Fitzgerald was among the locals who joined him.
Here’s a look at all of the local players who were named all-state in Classes B, C and D this season. Not surprisingly, Westhill’s Jordan Roland (Class B) and Lake George’s Joel Wincowski (Class C) were named state players of the year. Bridgehampton’s Charles Manning Jr. won the honor in Class D.
