It was a relatively quiet National Signing Day across the area on Wednesday. But, like the 2014 football season, the activity at Stepinac and Iona Prep was as busy as ever.
If you want to browse photos of all the signings — some taken by me, some contributed by others — hop over to my Instagram account at instagram.com/lohudinsider.
As you can see above, it was some scene at Stepinac, which celebrated the commitment of seven football players on Signing Day, including four Division I commits: Gavin Heslop and Damarcus Miller (Stony Brook), Brandon Coleman (Navy) and Dwayne Scott (Rhode Island). Malcolm Major (Assumption) also locked up his commitment after spurning an offer from Division I Stetson. Chris Jordan (Fayetteville State) joined Major in the Division II ranks. Dante Ezikel-Francis (Brockport) was honored for his decision as well.
At Iona Prep, Qaadir Sheppard, the area’s top recruit, signed with Syracuse. He was joined by Synceir Malone, who signed with Stony Brook. Elsewhere, former Iona Prep star Chris Cooper — now at ASA College in Brooklyn — inked with Stony Brook, meaning the local CHSFL schools will send four defensive backs to the Long Island school.
“That should be a nice defensive backfield,” Heslop said. “All from Westchester for years to come.”

I also learned this morning that Rye Neck’s Dom Brescia has signed with Merrimack.
And here’s another signing of definite note: New Rochelle’s state-championship-winning quarterback Khalil Edney signed with Division II Tuskegee (Ala.). Edney, who originally began his college career at Dean College, will have three years of eligibility after redshirting last season at ASA.
