Here’s Adrian Szkolar on today’s best:
After a quiet, scoreless first quarter, John Jay’s Jack Weiler went off against Rye.
Weiler hit seven three-pointers and finished with a game-high 26 points as John Jay defeated the visiting Garnets on Monday night 56-50.
“His confidence is very high,” John Jay coach Henry Taylor said of Weiler. “When he’s shooting the ball well, it opens it up for everyone.”
After allowing 27 points in the first half, Taylor said that he changed the defensive scheme to a man-to-man approach.
“Once we switched to man, we were able to talk and be a little more aggressive defensively,” he said. “It also put us in a better position to rebound as well.”
With 10 seconds left, Rye had possession down 52-50, but saw a three-point attempt rim out.
Matt Palacio added nine points for the Indians. George Kirby led the Garnets with 14 points.

Hugh Millar had 16 points for the Unicorns. … Eli Sierra had 26 points, including four three-pointers, for Hamilton in the Raiders’ 74-54 win over visiting Martin Luther King.
