Football camps open up across the area tomorrow, but our coverage of the preseason begins today.
We will have a team of reporters out at practices on Monday, so you can expect a steady flow of information throughout the day. Check back today at 2 p.m. for the annual list of Super 11 candidates. (Thanks to all of you for your submissions. Whether you see the player you suggested or not, please know they were all taken into consideration.)
First, here’s my story on one of the area’s most coveted recruits – from a school that doesn’t typically produce them.
The subject of the story is Mamaroneck senior Alex Parkinson, who was limited to less than three games last year because of a broken foot. The 6-foot-5 receiver and defensive back justifiably had his doubts, but they were calmed in the spring when his recruiting began to explode. He has since fielded offers from Syracuse, Rutgers, UConn, Pitt, Army, Navy, Rhode Island and Cornell.
Here is a list of others who have garnered buzz on the trail:
Brandon Coleman, Stepinac QB: Offers from Davidson, Harvard, Navy and Yale
Drew Estes, Harrison FB/LB: Committed to Bryant
Jonathan Forrest, New Rochelle RB/LB: Offers from Army, Buffalo, Monmouth and Villanova
Gavin Heslop, Stepinac DB: Offer from Monmouth
Andrew Livingston, Rye QB: Committed to Brown
Damarcus Miller, Stepinac DB: Offer from Stony Brook
Dwayne Scott, Stepinac DL: Offer from UTEP
Qaadir Sheppard, Iona Prep, TE/DL/LB: Offers from Boston College, Buffalo, Central Florida, Old Dominion, Pitt, Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple, UConn, UMass and Virginia
