Mahopac was careful in its search for a replacement for Kevin Downes, who, as you know, resigned in March in the wake of racially-charged tweets written and circulated by members of the community. It ended Downes’ seven-year run of success at his alma mater, but the controversy also guaranteed the Mahopac boys basketball job wouldn’t be for everyone.
Mahopac ended its long search last week for a replacement by hiring former Pace coach Jim Harter. Harter, the son of longtime NBA coach Dick Harter, served 16 seasons as the head coach at Pace. He worked as a volunteer assistant under Chris DiCintio at Somers last season.
New Mahopac superintendent Brian Monahan said Harter was the right man at the right time for Mahopac. Read more HERE to find out why.
