Here is Brian Heyman’s story on Croton-Harmon winning its 11th-straight game, along with the rest of today’s results.
You could say Croton-Harmon is headed for sectional play on a bit of a roll right now.
Eleven straight wins. Fifteen victories in 18 tries overall.
“It’s old-fashioned effort and hard work,” coach Bill Thom said. “This group is a throwback team.”
This Class B group closed the regular season Saturday with a 59-50 win over visiting Hen Hud behind junior guard Teejay Searight’s 20 points, including eight in the fourth quarter when the Tigers outscored the Sailors 17-8.
“Teejay took over the game,” Thom said.
Croton hasn’t had a slip-up since Jan. 10. Yet shooting guard Jason Howald underwent meniscus surgery Dec. 26. The senior captain finally returned for a few brief appearance in this game and is expected to be able to contribute in the postseason. Junior Peter Dinger and freshmen Lucas Curran and Charlie Goldberg took over his minutes while he was out.
“The two freshmen have really stepped up,” Thom said. “Both have been a pleasant surprise.”
Chris McVeety grabbed nine rebounds against Hen Hud. Carson Jacobs and Jake Spitz led the Sailors with 10 points apiece.
Best of the rest: MVP Ryan Schaenman scored 15 points to lead Blind Brook past Rye 52-41 in the final of the Cliff Clinton tournament. … Brandon Martin scored 28 and grabbed seven rebounds in Mount Vernon’s 87-56 win over Brooklyn Collegiate. … Matt Stein scored 18 in Harrison’s 67-44 win over Port Chester. … Chris Ayson had 18 points and nine rebounds in Pelham’s 61-57 win at Pleasantville. … Arjon Beqiri had 19 points in Sacred Heart’s 46-42 loss to St. Edmunds.
