Here’s Brian Heyman’s story on Pelham-Ardsley, plus a look at some of the best of the rest:
Pelham had a five-point problem to solve heading for the second half at Ardsley Friday. But that turned out to be no problem at all.
The Pelicans turned up their accuracy from long distance and turned up the temperature on defense, and they came back from that deficit to secure a 77-66 victory and get back to .500 again at 7-7.
“We came out slow after a tough game yesterday losing to Eastchester,” Pelham coach Mark Finegan said.
But after the intermission, they outscored the Panthers 43-27, making seven 3s and seven steals across those 16 minutes.
“We really shot well and we went to a full-court press that inspired our turnaround,” Finegan said.
Junior forward Simon White scored only two points in the game, but he “really sparked our defense,” according to Finegan. Senior guard Chris Ayson paced the Pelicans with 24 points and made three steals. Junior forward Brendan Roche added 17 points and six rebounds. And sophomore guard Matt O’Neil scored 15, including 12 in the second half.
“We’ve played well in streaks,” Finegan said. “… We’re kind of looking for a little more consistent effort at both ends of the floor, offensively and defensively.”
Tyler Loccisano scored 23 for Ardsley.
