Here is my story on Fox Lane’s impressive win at home against Byram Hills, along with the rest of today’s results.
First, here is video of my interview with James Morales
BEDFORD A strong defensive effort in the second quarter helped Fox Lane break open a game against visiting Byram Hills and cruise to a 62-37 win Thursday.
The Foxes (12-1) took a 35-14 lead into halftime after outscoring the Bobcats (9-4) 20-6 in the second quarter.
While this Fox Lane team has benefited from strong shooting all season, it was the Foxes’ defensive effort that proved to be the difference
“I think the most important thing is our defense,” said Fox Lane coach Chris Violante, whose team finished with 11 steals. “When we play five guys working together, boxing out, playing fundamentals, I think we do a lot of things well.”
Fox Lane’s James Morales finished with 17 points, four assists and three steals in the win. Teammate Nicky Bonura added 11 points and four rebounds.
The win comes less than a week after the Foxes were nearly upset at home by Horace Greeely. Fox Lane ended up winning 44-42.
“We wanted to make a statement, not for everyone, just for ourselves to show how good of a team we are,” Morales said. “We came out and did that today.”
Andrew Groll finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds for Byram Hills. Mike Giacomo added eight points and two steals.
