I’ll have more in a bit on Putnam Valley’s first-ever win over Peekskill. First, here’s Nancy Haggerty’s story on Spring Valley beating rival Ramapo, plus the best of the rest:
Utilizing its height advantage on the inside, the Spring Valley registered a 74-51 win over visiting Ramapo to raise raised its record to 10-3 Wednesday with a 74-51 win over visiting Ramapo.
Junior forward Kai Mitchell and junior guard Rickey McGill had huge games for the Tigers.
The 6-foot-5 Mitchell poured in 28 points and pulled down 15 rebounds, and McGill, who seemed like he was all over the court, had 16 points, eight rebounds, three blocks and two steals.
“It’s the word ‘team.’ When we play together as a team, we’re pretty tough. We’re coming together as a team,” Spring Valley coach Willie Worsley said, praising his squad’s “supporting cast.”
Included was 6-6 junior forward Jordan Duncan, a huge inside presence who had 12 rebounds and nine points.
Point guard Deyondre Downing added six points and did a good job distributing the ball.
Mezu Agwu hit for 16 points for Ramapo, most from the inside.
But, largely, that’s where the Tigers were dominant.
“We kind of wore them down,” Worsley said. “We went inside on them. Ramapo played excellent. We just had a little more manpower.”
Best of the rest: Mark Kinnally had 19 points, Chris Strnad 17 and Ezekiel Demasio and Bryce Wills 15 each to lead host Valhalla to a 92-55 win over Hawthorne Cedar Knolls. Lateek Griffin had a game-high 28 points for the visitors. … Dan Ostrower hit for 16 points and David Falcone added 15 as Ardsley edged host Sleepy Hollow 62-58. Wendell Brand led the Headless Horsemen with 18 points. … Taylor Miccio scored 25 points to lead visiting Green Meadow Waldorf over Hudson 61-35. … Dean DeLucia and Kumar Nambiar each had 12 points as host Mamaroneck defeated New Rochelle 46-39.
