OK, so not such a great Week 2 for me, nor was it great for many of you. We had several more 3s, 4s and 5s than in a typical week, which is a good indication that the games I picked were close ones.
Anyway, the winners from Week 2 were: “Voice of the Panthers,” “Panasonic,” and “class b ovserver” with eight correct picks each. “Voice of the Panthers” and “Panasonic” rode a solid Week 2 into a tie for first overall. Those two and Week 1 winners “I’m Sorry” and “Joey D” all have 15 correct picks.
A few of you regulars who participated in Week 1 did not participate in Week 2. I encourage you to return; we’ve had people finish near the top despite missing a week in the past.
Top 10: 12-8 (5-5 last week)

THE TOP 10—
GAMES OF THE WEEK
Mahopac (1-1) vs. White Plains (2-0)
When: Friday, 7 p.m.
Where: Mahopac High School
Key players: Mahopac — Ryan Simone (6-4, 220), Sr., TE/DE; Ethan Ryan (6-1, 180), Sr., QB; Eric Giorno (5-11, 180), Sr., RB/LB. White Plains — Cameron Crabbe (6-1, 190), Sr., QB; Chris Jordan (5-11, 200), Sr., RB/LB; Lukas Repetti (6-5, 240), Sr., TE/DE.
Key matchup: Mahopac defense vs. Jordan
Outlook: Mahopac dropped a close one last week, 21-14 at New Rochelle, and its schedule won’t get much easier here. White Plains is off to a 2-0 start thanks to improved quarterback play from Crabbe and a strong running game led by the bullish Jordan. Jordan is a similar back to Jonathan Forrest, who led New Rochelle to victory, and Mahopac will have to contend with Jordan’s powerful running style. Crabbe has also been able to generate long touchdowns, particularly to the speedy Marshon Morris. The Tigers’ offense hasn’t faced anything like Mahopac’s defense, and they’ll be forced to do it on the road against a team hungry to win.
Prediction: Mahopac 21, White Plains 13. I expect Mahopac to bounce back. It’s a hungry team playing in a comfortable environment. White Plains has improved, but this will be very, very tough.
Stepinac (2-0) vs. St. Anthony’s (1-1)
When: Saturday, 1:30 p.m.
Where: Stepinac High School, White Plains
Key players: Stepinac — Brandon Coleman 5-10, 160), Jr., QB; Malcolm Major (5-7, 160), Jr., RB/DB; Brian Harris (6-1, 240), Sr., C/DT. St. Anthony’s — Greg Galligan (6-2, 185), Sr., QB; Jordan Gowins (5-11, 210), Jr., RB; Naim Jones (5-11, 160), Sr., RB.
Key matchup: Stepinac defensive front vs.. St. Anthony’s offensive line.
Outlook: Stepinac is off to a flying start behind the running of Major (seven touchdowns on 19 carries) and Coleman (24 for 28 passing). Their speed has been tough to stop, but St. Anthony’s is a much higher-level opponent than Mount St. Michael or Xavier. The Friars ditched their option offense for the spread this year and Galligan has already passed for 301 yards in two games. Still, the focal point is Gowins, a major Division I prospect who has already amassed 328 yards rushing. The key for Stepinac will be whether or not it can withstand St. Anthony’s physicality at the line of scrimmage. The Crusaders are fast, but won’t have St. Anthony’s size. They should be able to score, but can they stop the Friars when it counts?
Prediction: St. Anthony’s 35, Stepinac 28. Like I said, Stepinac will score, but I’d favor St. Anthony’s physicality to be the biggest factor in the outcome.
North Rockland 21, Carmel 7. The Rams have had trouble scoring. This isn’t the team to score big against.
Harrison 35, Tappan Zee 21. Harrison will really need to improve defensively to shut down TZ, which is explosive. I just don’t if TZ can slow down Harrison enough to win.
Mamaroneck 14, Ramapo 6. Ramapo has a very short week, having just finished an emotional win on Monday over South. Going on the road to play a defense that has held two good opponents to 14 points or less might be too much.
Pleasantville 13, Nanuet 0. The Panther defense has been sharp so far. This game will be a grind, and that suits Pleasantville well.
Rye 34, Lincoln 13. This is a surprising matchup of 2-0 teams. Lincoln has a power running game that could serve it well against Rye’s small front, but the Garnets are too experience and too explosive. This game will be played at a different level than the Lancers are accustomed to.
Woodlands 34, Bronxville 17. These two teams enter the week 2-0, but something is going to give. One of Class C’s big four will come away with its first loss.
Ossining 44, Poughkeepsie 34. And you thought last week was wild? Ossining will test Poughkeepsie’s D just as much as Sleepy. Maybe more.
John Jay-East Fishkill 21, Arlington 7. After last year’s nightmare, Arlington is 2-0. But John Jay is simply better, so the Admirals will have to raise their game to move to 3-0.
Panas 27, Pearl River 14
Tuckahoe 22, Albertus Magnus 20
Spring Valley 27, Hen Hud 13
Xaverian 34, Kennedy 13
Nyack 26, Port Chester 7
Lakeland 35, Peekskill 6
