Jordan Lucas will be in the starting lineup not too far from home on Saturday. The former New Rochelle High School star is expected to start at cornerback as a true sophomore when Penn State plays its season opener Syracuse at Met Life Stadium, home of the Giants and Jets.
In just one year, Lucas has evolved from a possible redshirt to running with the first team at one of the country’s top college football programs. It wasn’t long ago when Penn State was the biggest offer Lucas received by a pretty wide margin after one year of prep school at Worcester Academy. If it seemed like he was reaching, think again. Not only did Lucas quickly earn a starting spot, he went from a non-qualifier out of high school to posting a 3.3 GPA as a freshman while playing on all of the Nittany Lions’ special teams.
