What do eight Section 1 titles, four state championship berths and two state titles get you in Tuckahoe? If you’re John D’Arco and his staff, apparently all they get you are a board meeting to determine your fate.
D’Arco and his football staff enter tonight with their future in limbo. The Tuckahoe school board will hold a special meeting at 6:30 tonight in the high school/middle school library to appoint football coaches for the 2013 season. And there’s no guarantee D’Arco Sr., his son John Jr. and Pat Gallo — his two longtime assistants — will be back.
The community is expected to flock to the school to support the coaches tonight. Athletic director Alex Bonci confirmed that the meeting will take place and the current staff is not a shoo-in to return despite his support.

The Tuckahoe school district will host a board of education meeting in the Tuckahoe High School library on Thursday night at 6:30 with the purpose of appointing football coaches for the upcoming school year.
Longtime coach John D’Arco Sr. is not guaranteed to retain the position despite the fact he has built the Tigers into a Class D state powerhouse. D’Arco, who coached the team to state titles in 2006 and 2010, declined comment, but athletic director Alex Bonci confirmed that D’Arco; his son John D’Arco Jr., the defensive coordinator; and Pat Gallo, the offensive coordinator, will not necessarily return.
“I won’t know who the football coaches will be until tomorrow night,” Bonci said Wednesday.
Bonci wouldn’t divulge details as to why the status of D’Arco and his coaches remains uncertain. He said it has nothing to do with their success.
“There are some things that are being looked into,” Bonci said. “As far as I can tell at this point, I don’t know what the outcome will be.”
Bonci confirmed the district has interviewed alternative candidates despite the fact that D’Arco has run the team during offseason activities. That came amid a scare this spring and early this summer about the coaching licenses of the D’Arcos and Gallo. They had to supply the district with updated paperwork.
“I am fully, 100 percent in support of Coach D’Arco and his staff,” Bonci said. “I’ve known John D’Arco for 40 years. Never once have I heard anything negative said about him.”
Under D’Arco, Tuckahoe has won the Section 1 title eight of the last 10 seasons and reached four state finals. The Tigers finished as the state runner-up last season.
