They joked about it in March. Now, it’s come to fruition.
Khalil Edney and Ray Rice will go head to head at this year’s ESPYS, ESPN’s annual awards show. Both New Rochelle products were nominated in the category “Play of the Year,” with Edney earning the honor for his buzzer-beater that stunned Mount Vernon in the Section 1 Class AA championship game last March. Rice is up for his fourth-and-29 catch-and-run last November that saved the Ravens in an OT victory against the Chargers.
Edney said he and New Rochelle basketball coach Rasaun Young will attend the ESPYS on July 17 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.
Asked if he wanted to win, Edney said, “Yeah, I do. If he wins, it’s OK. It’s New Rochelle or New Rochelle.”
