P.J. Torres played two seasons at Duquesne…but not really. At least that’s how he views it after seeing minutes in just 21 games between his freshman and sophomore years combined.
Hoping to avoid another lost season, the 6-foot-3 former New Rochelle star has opted to transfer to Division II LIU Post. It will allow him to play immediately in 2013-14.
The cerebral combo guard said he chose Post over Monmouth and Pace. He was lured by first-year coach Erik Smiles, who will replace Chris Casey after Casey was named the head coach at Niagara.
“I’m ready to show case my talent and I’m ready to do that right now,” said Torres, who averaged 2.8 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game as a sophomore at Duquesne. “I didn’t wanna go D-I and take the chance of sitting out a year.”
Post finished last season 18-9, including a 13-5 mark in East Coast Conference play.
