The New Rochelle Board of Education will honor all of its champions in what’s been a pretty historic school year for the athletic department. Here’s a release from the district about the event:
Members of the New Rochelle High School basketball, indoor track, swimming and cheerleading teams will be honored Wednesday evening, April 3 at 7 p.m. at the district’s next Board of Education meeting. Each team had sensational winter seasons in their respective sports that resulted in championships across the board.
Girls indoor track boasts several section and state champions and a handful of all-Americans. Boys swimming has a section champion on their team and the JV and varsity cheerleading squads brought home championships from the national competition in Orlando.
And, of course, the inspired and unexpected run by the boys basketball team will be recognized as well. They were the winners of a Section 1 championship against Mount Vernon (“The Shot” will be talked about for years to come), a regional championship against Kingston and made it to the state championship in Glens Falls where they lost to Bishop Kearney.
All of these achievements follow the football team bringing home a state championship to New Rochelle back in the fall. It has truly been a season of champions this year for New Rochelle sports.
The Board of Education meeting will take place at the Barnard Early Childhood Center, which is located at 129 Barnard Road in New Rochelle.
