GAME RECAPS
Class A state semifinals
Burke Catholic 68, Amityville 50: At the Glens Falls Civic Center, Mike Coffey had 21 points on 8-for-11 shooting. Jack Dwyner added 18 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Eagles. Pat Joyner had 12 points and six rebounds and Stan Buczek chipped in eight points, 10 rebounds and four blocks.
Burke (Section 9) limited Amityville (Section 11) to 36.3 percent shooting (20 for 55) for the game and just 29.6 percent in the first half. Burke led 34-18 at halftime. The Eagles will play for a second straight state title after winning the Class B championship last year.
This is Burke’s third appearance in a state final. It lost in the Class B final in 1983 and 2010.
McKinley 75, Bishop Ludden 61: At the Glens Falls Civic Center, Lovell Smith had 23 points on 10-for-15 shooting and added five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Marcus Morris added 21 points on 7-for-10 shooting for McKinley (Section 6), which shot 58.4 percent (31 for 53) for the game.
McKinley outrebounded Ludden 38-26. Ben Hackett led Ludden (Section 3) champ with 21 points. Daniel Daigler added 20 and 12 rebounds.
McKinley has never won a state title. This is its second appearance in a state final, having lost in the 1981 Class B final.
Class AA state semifinals
New Rochelle 60, Northport 46: At the Glens Falls Civic Center, Joe Clarke had 22 points, seven rebounds, five assists and eight steals as the Huguenots advanced to just the second state championship game in program history. They also reached the Class AA final in 2005, but lost to Niagara Falls.
New Rochelle (16-9) has now won eight straight. It will attempt to make state history on Sunday. No team in the state’s largest classification has ever won football and basketball state titles since the inception of the state football tournament in 1993. In fact, no school has ever won state titles at the largest classification in both sports – even in different seasons. (CBA-Syracuse won the Class AA state football title in 2005; its state basketball title in 1997 came in Class C.) The last school of any class to win state football and basketball titles in the same season was Tuckahoe, which won football (Class D) and basketball (Class C) in 2011-12.
On Saturday, Clarke received assistance from Edney, who had 13 points, four rebounds and two blocks. Terrence Holden added nine points and five rebounds and shot 5 for 5 from the foul line. New Rochelle actually went 15 for 17 as a team and did not miss a free throw until late in the fourth quarter.
Luke Petrasek led Northport (Section 11) with 22 points and eight rebounds on 9-for-17 shooting. Austin Marchese added nine points, seven of them in the first quarter. Mike Milligan Jr. finished with five points and four rebounds. The 6-foot-5 Milligan and the 6-9 Petrasek each spent a portion of the first half on the bench with foul trouble.
Bishop Kearney 65, Troy 58 (OT): At the Glens Falls Civic Center, Antwoine Anderson had 25 points and three assists. That included a dunk at the buzzer that capped a 12-5 overtime period for Kearney, which missed two shots at the buzzer in regulation to send it to OT. Thomas Bryant added 21 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks and Syracuse-bound Chinonso Obokoh had four points, 12 rebounds and three blocks despite playing much of the second half in foul trouble.
Javion Ogunyemi led Troy (Section 2) with 24 points and 10- rebounds. Jerrell Reid had 16 points before fouling out with just under six minutes to play in a tie game. Dyaire Holt turned the ball over with under 20 seconds to play in a tie game with the shot clock off when he was called for an offensive foul on a drive to the basket.
This is the third appearance in a state final Bishop Kearney (Section 5), which won the Class B state title in 2009 and lost in the final in 1999.
Class D state championship
Argyle 58, MLK 33: At the Glens Falls Civic Center, tournament MVP Joey Lufkin had 27 points, six rebounds and six assists as Argyle (Section 2) outscored MLK 33-10 in the second half. Argyle won the first state title in program history and finished the season unbeaten at 24-0.
Rajien Griffin led MLK with 15 points but shot 6 for 19 from the field. Jermaine Shaw added nine point and four rebounds. He and Griffin were named all-tournament.
This was the Tigers’ third appearance in a state final. They won Class D in 2005 and lost the following year.

WOOD…did you follow that Troy game? They blew it in regulation. They are going to beat themselves up over that loss.
I am rooting for New Ro, but the bigger picture is the feds. Luhi, CTK and Lincoln. Anyone can win. I don’t think New Ro or Kearney are beating one of those teams.
What a great run for New Ro!!! Keep the ball rolling. Go New Ro!!
Great win, knocking them down one by one.

Bishop Kearney Ends New Rochelle’s Miracle Run & none of the AA Teams Stand a chance vs the Downstate Federation Rep
I don’t know what a shame, new ro has this supernatural luck this year
J
No Super Natural Luck Today. They shot less than 24% from the field & LOST to a team Mt Vernon BEAT earlier this Year. The only thing Super Natural About NewRo is that the clock started late in their miracle win over MV. NewRo played MV’s games at Purchase, West Pt & Glens Falls. If the clock starts on time at the county center Mt Vernon wins the Gold Ball & would have won their 3rd straight NYSPHSAA title Today
