Northport senior Luke Petrasek will provide the toughest matchup for New Rochelle in Saturday’s Class AA state semifinals. The skilled big man is 6-foot-9, but he can handle the ball and shoot it from the perimeter.
Petrasek averages about 18 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks per game and will certainly test the Huguenots’ undersized front line. Having said that, he certainly has a different game than New Ro star Joe Clarke, who proved he was unafraid of taller players at the Slam Dunk. Clarke outplayed St. Mary’s 6-9 big man Jessie Govan, who, depending on where you look, is one of the Top 25 or so sophomores in the country and either a four or five-star recruit.
Anyway, I’ll have much more on Northport later today and later this week, but here’s a look at Petrasek highlights from a game this season against Commack:

WHAT COLLEGES ARE INTERESTED?
He looks good but what matters to new ro is do they have good guards. Their ball pressure has been winning games for them.
How much better could northport be? I’ve seen elite basketball over the last 13 yrs but I don’t think new ro should fear this team at all
Haywood, the only D-1 offer I read about for Petrasek is from Binghamton.
Looks like they will have to tire him out
BILLYBARTY,
THANKS,
Wood… no one really. If Stonybrook, Hofstra aren’t recruiting him, doesn’t that tell you something.
J Northport isn’t good. If New Ro loses, they beat themselves. New Ro’s schedule isn’t even comparable to Northport. They played no one and took advantage of a very down year in Suffolk let alone Nassau.
This honestly is a game New Ro should win and win big. If they lose here they will be beating themselves up for a ling time.
He is very good, but New Rochelle is not like playing Commack…

You have bad information. Hofstra has offered him
New Ro should beat them pretty good
The team Northport played in LI finals( Baldwin), their best player went out basically at the tip. He blew out his knee. Didnt MV play Kearney in the beginning of the yr? Id love to see New Ro win the Chip. They gonna get it handed to them by CTK, but a Public School Chip is Tremendous. Mike Quick said Northwestern, St Johns and many other D1’s are looking after the NPort kid
mike is correct. a friend of mine…Hofstra grad… says they are after him and another big, kid from st thomas moore. apparently the kid from st thomas moore is their top choice.
new ro should win this game.
I talked to the coach last night. Binghamton, Hofstra and the Citadel have all offered Luke.
Body him off the glass, force someone else to beat you.
Do people actually take things seriously from Mike Quick? Learn something new every day.
STATESMAN,
WHERE IS DANCY GOING?
I don’t know but Dominican offered I heard.
I was referring to “mike” the poster re: Hofstra…not Mike Quick. I can’t comment on St Johns or Northwestern.
IC,
Copy, didn’t mean you though fam.
Sorry men I was wrong. I found out yesterday through several youth coaches that he is getting interest from Hofstra. My bad!
HRs,
WHO DO YOU THINK WILL MAKE AA FINAL?
Wood I am going to go with New Ro vs Troy.
Northport hasn’t played anyone worthy and then they turn around and lose to A champ Amityville. I like the battle tested New Ro. Clarke will be too much.
I am going with Troy. I like the bigs and I also like that they played LuHi very very close earlier in the year. May not translate to winning now, but I am going with my gut.
Can easily see both my selections wrong though! Kearney/Northport are capable if they control tempo and play their games. Pressure can get the best of you now!

Saw the article of Mike Taylor a while back and its tough to see that talent not being tested as much as it can be. Lots of guys don’t understand the importance of balancing academics and athletics. Athletics is for such a short time.
I think Im with you on the AA final. I think it’ll be Troy and New Ro, but New Ro I think is more a favorite than Troy. But I think Troy will be ok too. I know they gave LuHi a run for their money early in the season. LuHi escaped with a 3 pt win.
My school is in the PSAL B Finals, so if we win on Sunday we’ll be headed up to Glens Falls for Feds. Would be nice for the school. Good luck to all.
HRs,
D.R-CANOE VS U.S.A-WRIGHT,WHO ARE YOU ROOTING FOR?
Rocket,
THANK YOU for your Academics/Athletics comment.
Rocket… great advice and CONGRATS on your boys making it to the B finals. Take it home..and when you do, I want video of your celebration. You are one passionate dude.
Wood…you can’t be serious with that question
USA, USA!
HRs,
GOOD MAN I THOUGHT CANOE MIGHT SWAY YOU,WITH THE YANKEE CONNECTION
Wood, you follow girls hoops( I don’t) but explain to me how Chong gets Gatorade player of the year, is going to UCONN and doesn’t get invite to McDonalds AAG?
HRs,
TRUTH BE TOLD;
MICKEY D’S SELLS HAMBURGERS,THEY DON’T KNOW A THING ABOUT BASKETBALL#FACT#YOU CAN’T MAKE IT UP,LLLLLLOOOOOLLLLL
Wood,
You don’t have to go to Mickey D’s to get a quarter-pound
