GAME RECAPS
Class AA regional semifinal
New Rochelle 67, Binghamton 48: At Purchase College, Joe Clarke had 23 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, four steals and three blocks for the Huguenots (14-9), who won their sixth straight. New Rochelle will play Section 9’s Kingston at 1 Sunday in the state regional final at West Point.
In their first game since gaining national attention for Sunday’s win at the buzzer over rival Mount Vernon in the sectional championship, the Huguenots started slowly, falling behind 9-2. Sunday’s hero Khalil Edney – playing his first game since his winning shot went vital – came off the bench with 5:30 left in the first quarter. Despite Edney scoring just two points, his team reeled off a 22-4 run in the next 6:48.
Still, it was Clarke and Derek Dorn who paced the Huguenots. Dorn contributed 15 points and four rebounds, including 13 points in the second half. Donny Powell had 11 points.
Edney finished with six points, four rebounds and a block.
Class C regional semifinal
Pine Plains 63, Palisade Prep 40: At Mount Saint Mary College, Fred Truss Jr. finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds while Isaiah Ward added 10 points and three rebounds. Pine Plains’ Tyler Lydon had 22 points, eight rebounds and four blocks while his brother Zachary added 20 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks. Josh,
That’s what he gets for picking against his neighbors!
hey, i’m rootin for newro all the way. but if they can win after the whirlwind of the last few days, i will be truly amazed.
New should have the slightest problem vs a section 4 team. Kingston will be a lot tougher though
I meant they should not have the slightest problem winning today. But all honestly new ro has that magic to go all the way
JOE CLARKE
SHOULD HAVE BEEN #MR BASKETBALL!!.....
Prince is really running with this. Don’t remember seeing him much when the L’s were coming in.
Good win for New Ro. Impressive that a 9 loss Sec 1 team took down the Sec 4 champ with ease.
STATESMAN,
GOOD LUCK TOMORROW,H. U. G. E GAME
Wood,
Thank you. Should be a wild one. I hope we are ready.
PPR,
I agree with you about Clarke. I never like when they vote for those awards BEFORE the playoffs, when it matters most.
Hoops,
Although Paschall did not have divine intervention on their side, he still had an impressive post season in his own right.
his side
Good luck to all Section 1 teams
Off topic but josh when will you post the all section, all conference winners. I believe the dinner is coming up soon
Clarke is in beast mode and has tunnel vision. He cannot be stopped. What’s next after New Ro? Does he go the prep route?
Where ar Clark and Edney going to college? Assume they will be playing football.
Anyone know Lourdes score?
No one knock Josh again. Dude is staying for the Lourdes game when he really does not have to.
Dutch,
33-21 Lourdes.

States ,
Thanks
Nice to see new to get this one!
Dutch,
No doubt.
Wow, Marlboro stormed back. We’re in OT again.
45-44 Marl, Lourdes was just up 44-40. No lead is safe
Witness,
I just read today Edney is going to Dean junior college next year. I’ve heard Clarke is either looking at a prep or juco as well.
Lourdes falls. Can’t give up a 14-4 run to end regulation. Heartbreak for sure. Great year for the 8 man crew.
yes, great year for Lourdes…they lose 5 of 8 players, not sure about jv squad….Marlboro kids are so tough and physical…bring a football style to hoops. Best of luck to the dukes moving on to Long Island.
I think Lourdes lost to Marlboro in football at Dietz to this year
@Hoops Fan – - I hope Edney goes to a different school then Dean JC. Back in the 90’s the school was not much, maybe it has changed
states-good luck against the catholic boys.Tough game.go pok
Aces,
Going to be a tough one. Time to run and work our hardest to keep their big man boxed off the glass. He has a guards handle so it will be difficult. Can’t wait to see it—just hope we get in!
Great job by New Ro. They were the better team going in, but no let down. You would figure a hang over.
Marlboro has Lourdes number this year.
Palisades prep way undersized put up a good fight.
hey josh, when was the last time someone won the POY award in both football and basketball?
lighter side,
Geoff McDermott?
Geoff played with ray rice so I can’t imagine he won the football award over him
states, is it time for a repeat with joe clarke?
Lighter side… I have been at the paper since 2003. It hasn’t happened in that time span. Before that, you had two-time (I think) POYs in Ben Gordon (2000 and 2001) and Elton Brand (1996 and 1997) who obviously didn’t play football.
lighter side,
There have been very, very few guys who were POY caliber players in multiple sports including basketball. Dave Fleming at Mahopac and Norman Hutchins at Lincoln were actually three sport stars in the mid-late 80’s and early 90’s. Fleming played big league baseball for years, Hutchins played minor league baseball. BJ Surhoff was another 3 sport star who played major league baseball. Greg Draddy another Rye guy was a multiple sport star in the late 90’s. As far as the larger schools, the closest I can think of would be McDermott who obviously didn’t win Football POY because of Ray Rice. Clarke looks to be as close as anyone in a long, long time. THough I don’t think he gets POY over Josh James this year, Clarke should be runner-up. Going back a long, long time there was a guy in New Rochelle named Jesse Arnelle in the 50’s who was an All American football and basketball player.
Statesman,
I know that Weir is headed to Fordham on a football scholarship. Do you have any info on the futures of other Pok players? Someone mentioned that Lawrence and Dancy may be going to Dominican College.
