I must’ve been asked the following question more than a dozen times Sunday: What did Cimmino say? The Mount Vernon coach is typically the best interview in local high school sports. (He’s had a little practice, of course.) The difference in this case was that his Knights lost.
If losing alone isn’t rare enough for a team that was the two-time defending state champs and a program that hadn’t lost at the County Center since 2005, the crushing finish rendered Sunday’s Class AA championship game the toughest loss of Cimmino’s 479-game tenure. Yes, even worse than the 2009 buzzer-beater at Pace.

I also have audio from my interview with New Rochelle star Joe Clarke, who said this win, in his opinion, was the best he’d ever experienced. Yes, better than a state championship.
Clarke also believed his Huguenots “shocked the county.” It’s hard to argue that now, isn’t it?
