Here is the video of New Rochelle’s Khalil Edney’s game-winning shot in the Class AA final against Mount Vernon. The video, courtesy of my colleague Mike Zacchio (@Zacchio_LoHud), shows the shot and all the madness that occurs after.
Afterwards, Josh caught up with Edney. Below is his reaction to the shot that gave New Rochelle their first gold ball since 2005.
Below is Seth Harrison’s compilation video of the game.

why not miss that second foul shot on purpose…
Edney is a great kid. He did so much to help New Ro all season in spite of being the 2nd best player and coming off the bench. He’s a role model for many young athletes. Great job!
Wow! This footage did “lead” for the 6 p.m. SportsCenter. Good job guys!
to the crew of officials who did the game nice job of getting together at the end end of the game and getting the call correct that is why 3officials are needed to do all varsity games lets get it right and not worry about paying for the 3rd official at allvarsity games
Iona beat new Rochelle this season? I guess we finally now have a new number 1 team in Westchester! Is it Iona or stepinac?
Bob,
Enjoy your feeble attempt at gloating.
You seem to be the type of guy who can prove that Appalachian State is better than Duke because they beat Virginia Commonwealth who beat Richmond who beat…......[GET THE PICTURE].
AT THE END OF THE DAY MOUNT VERNON CAN COUNT THEIR GOLD BALLS, THEIR NEW YORK STATE PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIPS, THEIR FEDERATION TITLES AND NUMEROUS STARS WHO HAVE PLAYED AND PLAY IN THE NBA AND FEEL REALLY GOOD ABOUT THEMSELVES AND THEIR PROGRAM.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
mvhs65,
I agree, MV is an incredible program. No one argues that. Tough way to lose a championship game…or any game for that matter. This was not their year.
Hoops fan,
Thank you for being sensitive about Mount Vernon having to endure yet another tough, tough loss.
How many programs have ever endured NOT ONE but TWO miracle shots within a four year span in games ?
Answer: I can only think of one…..Mount Vernon.
And yes, this was not their year.
p.s. I just finished reading [on spacecadet’s recommendation], The Miracle of St. Anthony’s, a great book about Coach Bob Hurley and the St. Anthony’s program. A must read.
I’m sorry but Cimmino’s flabbergasted look after they called the shot good was priceless
65,
Miracle of St Anthonys is an incredible book.
It is almost bizarre to think of MV losing twice in the last few years at last second heaves.
HOOPS FAN,
CONGRATS AND GOOD LUCK,LAST MAN STANDING
No disrespect intended but when a few guys monopolize this blog all hs basketball season talking about how good a team is and that they could beat down the catholic guys honesty would suggest a more rational approach. Stepinac is and was always a better hs basketball this season despite all the journal news false bravado and the usual groupies opinions that we get bombarded by daily. Time now to shut up and lick wounds. Maybe next year but I doubt it. Will be real amusing to see what these blog dudes rank the teams now? Hahaha

NEW RO OVER MT VERN IN A CLASSIC!!...
THE BEST SEC CHIP GAME IN THE PAST 10 YRS…..
Prince aka KING, congrats again and again and again….. Best finish I ever witnessed.
CATHLIC GUY,
WHERE WERE YOU ALL SEASON,BLOGGERS LIKE HOOPS FAN,STEP FAN,HAVE HELD UP STEPINACS END,WE DON’T NEED TO HERE FROM YOU BECAUSE MV LOST ON A LAST SECOND SHOT,CRAWL BACK IN TO YOUR HOLE
CG,
When you get proven correct (as it happened this year), there is no need to gloat.
New Ro/MV had a classic finish, MV is a great program, Rasuan Young did a great job winning the title in his first year, Clarke and Edney came up big yesterday. Stepinac played very wellyesterday and is the last man standing as Haywood pointed out. Let’s just appreciate things as they are.

CHIEF!....
.... CHAMPS!!..
the only two times i watched MV this year was at the CC against No Rock and New Ro, and i must say this is one of the worst MV teams i have seen in a while. Congrats New Ro!
Catholic guy….. Mount Vernon program speaks for its self….. Stepinac isn’t in the convo when you talk about basketball programs over the last 10 years…. Public or catholic…
Very true this was the year that MV could be beat….
67,
Stepinac is certainly in the convo of top local basketball programs in the last 10 years after MV with New Ro, WP, Peekskill, Iona. But this year is not even that close.
Stepinac has had 6 losing seasons since 2000…. Not in same convo with Mount Vernon…..
67,
In the few years before Tim Philp took over, Step was not in the conversation. Since Coach Philp took over they are definitely in the conversation.
Tony Taylor was a 4 year starter at GW. Is in his first year in the NBDL.
Melquan Bolding committed to Louisville
Conroy Baltimore was a force, went to Lehigh.
One A city title beating Cardinal Hayes
Two A Final Fours losing to Hayes (Sidibe/Fairfield and Jenkins/George Mason) and Ford (w/ Chaz Williams/UMASS and Kamari Murphy/Ok State)
They beat Peekskill with Mookie and Brickhouse the year they won A state title
Beat Sect 1 champ New Ro solidly this year
In first year in AA last year they beat eventual city champ St Rays
This year they are 20-7, beat St Rays twice, beat Molloy, played with everyone, in CHSAA semis
Josh James is the best player in Westchester, first team all chsaa, Jordan Brand All Star
Naim Thomas, Walter King and DeMarcus Miller are all very talented younger players with very bright futures
You can throw out all the names you want of players from stepinac to play at next level…. Mt Vernon has plenty of players to play at the next level… But your original statement was that in the last 10 years stepinac can compare to Mt Vernon….. Maybe last 3-4 years….
6 out of 12 years losing record…. Mt Vernon has 4 state championships since 05
67,
You misread what I wrote. I’ll post below my exact statement. I NEVER said Stepinac can compare to MV over the past 10 years, probably not even the last 3-4.
Here is exactly what I wrote to you:
“67,
Stepinac is certainly in the convo of top local basketball programs in the last 10 years after MV with New Ro, WP, Peekskill, Iona. But this year is not even that close.”
As far as saying what happened in 6 of the past 12 years is completely trying to twist reality and is very misleading, as you clearly are aware. Coach Philp has been in charge for 8 years. The 4 years before he took over were all losing records, his first year was a losing record. In other words, in the past seven years under Coach Philp, Stepinac only had one losing record – last year in the AA.
