Tuesday’s recap: Iona Prep tops Cardinal Hayes

Big story of the day was Iona Prep’s 67-63 upset win over Cardinal Hayes. You really never know what to expect in the CHSAA. The Gaels’ big three of Brandon Williams (22), Isaiah Ice (17) and Matt Ryan (17) came up huge.

Stepinac wasn’t as lucky, as they fell to Christ the King 77-52. If the Crusaders can take anything away from the game, it’s the fact they were within six points of arguably the strongest team in the state at half.

Harrison gave Byram Hills quite a scare, taking the Bobcats to overtime. Byram was able to go on a 15-8 run to close the game out and secure a 69-62 win. Andrew Groll led the Bobcats with 19 points. Harrison’s Coby Lefkowitz, who hit a game-tying layup to send it to OT, led all scorers with 26.

With wins today Peekskill and Panas keep pace with each other in their league. On Thursday the Red Devils face Yorktown while the Panthers take on Kennedy. A win by both teams would mean they would split the league title. Quite the turnaround for a Panas team that was 3-5 at one point in the season.
