Normally I’d use this space to complain about the fact that today isn’t considered a national holiday. The fact the government expects anyone to be productive the day after the Super Bowl is preposterous to me.
There is no time to complain though! Today marks the beginning of the final week of regular season basketball in Section 1.
Lots of big league match ups today. The Yonkers’ league will decided today as Saunders heads to Gorton. North Rockland also gets a chance to avenge their early season loss against Spring Valley. The Tigers enter the game on a 13-game winning streak.
Josh will be at Scarsdale to see them take on Eastchester. Follow him @LoHudInsider.

HOOPSGUY,

Thanks Haywood.
I know this has nothing to do with bball around here but I got CJ McCulloum autograph yesterday at his bball game at Army. Kid is one great dude. Very humble
Josh,
Are you going to do a Top 10 list this week?
Just to let everyone know SV NR will be broadcasted on MSGVarsity
HAYWOOD –
I left that for you – have at it!
COACH REEVES,
YOUR A FUNNY GUY
NORTH ROCKLAND-66 SPRING VALLEY-64
Top 10-
1-MV
2-Stepinac
3- Byram
4- PK
5-Spring Valley
6-North Rockland
7- Mahopac
8- Albertus
9- Peekskill
10- Scarsdale
I have Eastchester at 10A if they win tonight they would replace Scarsdale. The winner of NR/SV will flip flop.
I’m not a byram believer ..they played one tough team from jersey and lost ..and the linden team isn’t as good as yrs past
I think # 4,5,6,7,are better ..played better comp
Hoops fan… Yes, tomorrow.
byram is a very good team. Great guard play, very good big inside and as well coached as any team in all of Section 1. One a gold ball a few years ago and lost last year to TZ in a nailbiter without arguably their best player. Their guards can handle PK and Byram will win the gold ball this year as long as Lynch stays healthy.
Superfan,
Do you think their guards can handle the 4 Pok can deploy at any given moment? I do think their advantage is inside should those teams meet up.
States ..possibly another sad story comin from the Pok program..i hope what i heard is not true.
Absolutely, they are also solid defensively. PK is good and very athletic but this veteran Byram team will not be phased. Not taking anything away from Pk because they are very talented but to my Byram is one of the most complete teams in the area. Unselfish, defend well, three solid consistent shooters, a good big man and as I said a very, very good coach. They may not win it but the only team that has any chance at beating them is PK.
NR SV will not start at 5:30. The girls game just started
HOOPSGUY,
STAY ON POINT,
THANKS
Wood,
What do u mean stay on point????
Yeh, you’ve told us countless times how Byram didn’t impress you, they’ve played a cupcake schedule, etc., etc. Linden would beat anyone in Section 1 except MV. Your big man or men wouldn’t be able to handle their horse, for example. And Byram was right with them deep in the game, on the road in a hostile environment. Byram isn’t the second coming of 1971 Mount Vernon, but doesn’t it seem odd that you’re the only one on here who consistently downplays their achievements?
Upstate,
No idea. Have not heard anything, will keep my ears open. Never believe anything you hear though.
So..they are better nort Rockland..pok..spring valley..and Mahopac ?
Never down played them..of course they are good .just not #3 in the section…what tough teams did they play ?
STATESMAN,
NYACK BEAT ALBERTUS AT THE BUZZER 60-59
Josh,
Thanks for the info
HOOPSGUY,
THAT MEANS,KEEP GIVING UP DATES I’LL BE WATCHING YOUR POSTS,
SORRY FOR THE STREET LINGO
STATESMAN,THAT LOSE REALLY HELPS POUGHKEEPSIE,YOU DON’T NEED TO PLAY MV NOW,IT’S ALL GOOD
Wood,
We were a little above them before this 2nd loss. Either way, the 2 seed is still in sight if Eastchester loses and PK wins the 2 games on their schedule. The 18th game, MV or NFA would be a nice pre playoff game if one can work out.
STATESMAN,
I JUST WANT IT SET UP SO BYRAM IS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BRACKET
Ok States..I hope you are right
Wood,
If they are 1 and PK is 2 or 3 it will.
Upstate,
You never know. I’m just tired of bad news now.
Nyack just beat Albertus in OT. 3 pointer at the buzzer…
Just got back from Byram-Greeley and I remain a Byram believer. However, HG played Mahopac, too, and they are better than Byram so the Byram Boys’ ranking may be a little high. They were sloppy today, let a sagging Greeley hang around. Matt Xie very good. Lynch and Golden are All Stars but not Groll yet. LoHud Insider is padding his rebound totals. Got nowhere near 22. Maybe 13, max. He is solid, though. Well coached team. Will be a factor due to PG play and leadership. Golden is the glue. Hit big shot today. Took out Brown’s leg on a play which was pretty dirty but plays with that edge. Refereeing just wretched for both sides. One of the refs used to coach with Butch Graves. Just not qualified enough for this level. Kids deserve better. Wish Byram well. Will be interesting to watch. Iif Groll develops some moves, in two years, he will be really good.
HAYWOOD –
I covered in the WP – M’neck tilt. Can’t say the same for you in N Rockland SV but you got the winner right. Congrats!
Milton Reece..ask the 6’10” kid from st Mary’s how we did ..Byram good not great ..not #3 in the section ..my opinion just like yours and lohuds
