Crazy days in the CHSAA today. The Iona Prep and Stepinac games both came down to the wire.
The Gaels actually trailed 41-40 heading into the fourth quarter. The final eight minutes were a back and forth affair, with Iona breaking a 51 all game when Matt Ryan (nine points) hit a 3 in the final minute.
The Gaels would foul the Mountaineers with 39 seconds to send them to the line where they hit both shots. Iona would run the clock down to 14 seconds before they turned the ball over, giving Mount St. Michael one final chance for a 3 at the buzzer that rimmed out.
Brandon Williams led the Gaels with 17 points, seven assists, five rebounds and two steals.
