North Salem Yorktown Lakeland Ossining Mahopac Carmel and Somers all don’t have school. Lots of cancellations coming today
All schools up in Dc cancelled.
Hoops,
This world is getting soft. 2 inches of snow closes schools now? Back in some of the old-head days, it would have took 2 feet. I know schools were out for a while due to Sandy so another day like this just takes away from that Spring Break.
Panas vs Yorktown is cancelled for today!!
Can anyone with access post the updated MSG V Power Rankings please?
1. Mount Vernon
2. Byram
3. POK
4. Spring Valley
5. North Rockland
6. Peekskill
7. AM
8. Scarsdale
9. New Ro
10. Eastchester
Sports Guy,
Thank you very much. Nice to see the Valley getting love. If they keep that squad together they
ll be #1 the next 2 years likely.
States,
That win for AM over SV is looking better and better as the season goes on! If SV can keep their team together, they may be able to seriously contend with MV by the time these guys are seniors. I know it’s bold, but I really like the young guys from the Valley.
Sports Guy,
I hear you. AM is another headache. Nyack will be a bracket-buster as well. Excellent to see Rockland playing high quality ball. If SV can get to MV next year and the year after [this year may be too soon], they’ll do well. They don’t care who you are, they’ll come right at you and play with no fear. I like them too, was very impressed with their poise and think Sophomores that can play high level varsity ball turn into excellent leaders as time goes on.
re: SV – do they have a history of losing players to other schools?
Fafa,
Sounds like they lose a lot to NJ Catholics. Even so, they’ve always given Pok a run and have defeated their very good teams more than once. If that wasn’t so, they’d be a beast in Football and Hoops.
Players from SV and Ramapo, with it being the largest town in Rockland and generally has the best athletes with the exception of possibly North Rockland, always have the NJ coaches in their ear (Paramus, Bosco, Bergen, St Joes). Just recently they had a kid, Foreman I think was his name, bounced back and forth between SV and I believe Bosco.
Rye Neck goes for 5 in a row today at home vs. Blind Brook. Let’s see if they can keep it going, this is a big game and would be a BIG win for the Panthers.
States/Sports SV/Ramapo loses essentially any top athlete on a consistent basis. The school district is in insurmountable debt. They will not recover for a long time(if they do at all). As you know it is essentially run by the Hasidic/Orthodox community. Until they are removed from the boards, nothing will change. With that being said, a kid would be be crazy to deal with this from an educational stand point if he has another option.
You also have kids from Ramapo who won’t play because of the coach. He has been there since WW1 and they want nothing to do with him.
HRs,
Tough times out there. Can’t blame the kids with all those negative variables being so glaring.
States it is BRUTAL. Even when I was playing you started to see a downward spiral(compared to when my brother was playing 3 years prior). Very sad and there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel.
They have tons of tremendous athletes/kids wanting a fair shake. Hopefully the state steps in a makes a change. Look at the kid Ricky Jeune. Do we really think he gets to go to the ACC from SV? And by the way I saw him play against Bosco live…WOW.
I know you don’t want the praise, but districts/athletic programs of this nature need more positive people like yourself around them. Even if it is one kid, someone of your intelligence and demeanor can make a difference.
HRs,
Well said. I’m glad Ricky was able to make the best of a bad situation and set he and his family up for a life of upward mobility.
I just see myself as a watchdog. Like Wing said on the Rockland to 9 thread, we have to hold the administration/districts accountable b/c the kids really are our future. Us not investing in them is a disservice to them and our futures as well. We can’t complain about the state of the union when our kids are getting no shot out here from day 1. Athletics and life in general intertwine here.
Just seeing the kids faces when you pop your head at a game or two makes a difference. It’s a good way to start,I hope the ball gets rolling at SV, Ramapo and everywhere that needs it soon.
Ditto my friend. Keep doing what you do! May catch SV play South today. Depends with work and kids, but going to try.
I’ll do my best brother! If it works out, please keep us advised.
It hurts so much to see what happens down in the East Ramapo district. I have family over there and the division between the orthodox/black community is very real. The amount of athletes from SV is wild. Off the top of my head when I think of the Morgan Halls, Claude Daniels, Obi Ezemma, Pierre Gaspard, Kevin Jocelyn, Jean Thelemaque and etc. These guys didnt get the exposure they deserved.
I remember in 04 Ramapo gave New Ro work in a scrimmage. Eventhough New Ro had Ray Rice and Geoff McDermott, Ramapos squad had just as much talent. To top it off, Junior Galette wouldve been on that team but when to St. Joes and is now a starting DT on News Orleans Saint.
The state NEEDS TO STEP in and handle it! Its unfair to the public school kids in the East Ramapo District. How much better would it enchance Section 1 sports if SV and Ramapo were organized and had resources. St. Joes is probably the biggest sucker of Rockland talent, Don Bosco is not to far behind.
All of rockland loses out to nj. Bosco’s pg this year is a 6”3 jr from clarkstown. He plays big time aau in nj and is a high d1prospect. There are at least 5 rockland players starting in bergan every year.
rye neck made it 6 in a row today with a hard fought win over rival blind brook. bb erased a 14 pt halftime deficit and was leading by 2 at the end of the 3rd qtr. The 4th qtr. was a back and forth battle and the panthers held on to win it by 3. Rye Neck is long and deep. when they spread the ball and defend like they did today, they can be tough to deal with. Congratulations, keep it going this weekend at the Mamo Tournament
