Yet another upset today, this one taking place in the Class AA ranks. Coming off 74-44 thrashing from Mount Vernon the Raiders get their first win against the Huguenots since 2009.
“We talked in the locker room about earning respect from everyone else,” said Scarsdale coach Jon Feld. “After Friday, that can knock your confidence down a couple of pegs.”
A win against New Rochelle certainly doesn’t hurt. Scarsdale jumped out to 39-23 lead at halftime but the Huguenots put together a 22-7 third quarter to cut the lead to one heading into the final quarter.
Joe Clarke go into early foul trouble, picking up three fouls in the first half. The senior finished with 12 points.
Jack Hewitt paced Scarsdale with 23 points while Tyler Nathan had 17 points, including five 3s.
Feld said the win was a true team effort, using Alex Squadron, who finished with only three points but did a great job of handling the ball and dealing with New Rochelle’s pressure, as an example.
“I’m really proud of my guys,” Feld said. “They showed resilience.”
There is one bright spot for New Rochelle. The last time the Huguenots fell to Scarsdale, a 51-45 loss in 2009 that included a go-ahead 3 by Jack Detmer with 39 seconds remaining, they coincidentally played Mount Vernon in their next game.
The result? An 82-75 upset win over the Sherrod Wright-led Knights. It was their first win over Mount Vernon since 2005.
