Monday’s recap: Fitzsimmons’ buzzer-beater lifts Putnam Valley

We seem to have picked up right where we left off last week. Putnam Valley’s Kevin Fitzsimmons knocks down a jumper as time expires to give the Tigers a thrilling overtime win against Carmel.
Across the river Nanuet and Suffern had some excitement of their own. The Golden Knights ended up pulling it out in overtime as Mike Mulligan finished with 18 points.
Also in Rockland, Pearl River bounces back from two tough losses last week to hand Clarkstown North their second straight loss. The Rams were on a five-game winning streak prior to the two-game skid.
Also, Croton-Harmon’s Ian Thom had 31 points and five assists in their 62-48 win over Westlake. Thom scored his 1,000th point in the win.
Putnam Valley 56, Carmel 55, OT: At Carmel, down one point in the final moments of overtime Zach Coleman found Kevin Fitzsimmons at the foul line who hit a jumper as time expired to give the Tigers a dramatic victory. It was Coleman’s two free throws at the end of the fourth quarter that extended the game. Carmel’s Dan Benkhen tipped in the ball with 8.5 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Rams a 55-54 lead before Fitzsimmons buzzer-beater. Coleman finished with 14 points and teammate Ryan Basso had 15. RJ Martinez had 25 points and James Loughran had 11 for the Rams.
Nanuet 47, Suffern 43, OT: At Suffern, Mike Mulligan led Nanuet with 18 points. Javin Wiliams, Tyler McDine and Brendan Kenny scored eight points apiece for the Mounties.
Pearl River 70, Clarkstown North 66: At Clarkstown North, Kevin Degnan had 29 points for the Pirates. Tom Davis had 17 points. Sal Barbetto and Zack Jarrett each had 19 points for the Rams.
Riverside 68, Yonkers 34: In the first round of the Yonkers City tournament at Yonkers, Ian Parker had 19 points and Khalif Mason had 11. Eddie Jackson had 10 points. Felix Gyabach had 12 points. Riverside will play Palisade Prep on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the tournament semifinals at Saunders High School.
Pawling 58, Martin Luther King 50: At Martin Luther King, Rajien Griffin had 20 points. Jermaine Shaw had 11 points and 12 rebounds, and Peter Hargrove had 11 points. Dashawn Johnson had eight rebounds.
Fox Lane 59, Port Chester 49: At Port Chester, Andrew Morales had 17 points and Carlito Carvalho had 14 points. Nicky Bonura had 10 points. Kayson Calhoun had 13 points and Tim Brown had 11 points for the Broncos.
Iona Prep B 47, Stepinac B 37: At Iona Prep, James Colouci and Joe Casarella each scored 12 points. Malik Joseph added 10 points and 12 rebounds. Joanquin Spencer scored 14 points for the Crusaders.
Woodlands 65, Yorktown 62: At Yorktown, D’Andre Tilford scored 17 points. Najee Khan added 16 for the Falcons. Ricky Corrado scored 25 points for the Huskers. Mason Dyslin added 16 points.
Palisade Prep 83, Yonkers Montessori 23: In the first round of the Yonkers’ City Tournament at Saunders, Kevin Sabino-Pena had 16 points for the Phoenix. Fred Truss Jr. and Isaiah Ward each had 15 points. Javon Cromwell and Devin Herrera each had five points for Yonkers Montessori. The Phoenix will face Riverside in the semifinals Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Saunders.
Rye Neck 56, Hawthorne Cedar Knolls 36: At Rye Neck, Matt Franks had 16 points and five rebounds for the Panthers, who started the game on a 22-7 run. Saul Feliciano had 17 points for Hawthorne Cedar Knolls.
Forman 57, Harvey 47: At Harvey Saturday, Jesse Zubren had 18 points and 12 rebounds for Harvey. Rickey Hicks had 13 points and five assists and Jake Cohn scored 10 points.
Saunders 77, Roosevelt 57: In the first round of the Yonkers City Tournament at Saunders, Dijon Gonzalez had 29 points and 10 rebounds for the Blue Devils. Erickson Gonzalez had 16 points. Demetrius Thomas had 14 points for the Indians. Saunders will host Gorton in the semifinals Wednesday at 4:15 p.m.
Croton-Harmon 62, Westlake 48: At Croton-Harmon, Ian Thom had 31 points and five assists en route to scoring his 1,000th point.
Horace Greeley 65, Rye 61: At Rye, Harrison Brown had 30 points for the Quakers. Matt Xie added 17 points. Max Twyman and Mike O’Neil each had 19 points for the Garnets.
Gorton 72, Lincoln 44: In the first round of the Yonkers City tournament Monday at Gorton, Dane Williamson had 16 points and Rashan McKay had 15. Kwun Mel Fincher had 14 points. Tony Leone had 16 points and Felix Martinez had 10 for the Lancers. Gorton will play Saunders in the tournament semifinal on Wednesday at 4:15 p.m. at Saunders High School.
