As mentioned two days ago, the only two undefeated teams in the area are in action today and neither games are gimmes. Palisade Prep hosts Clark Academy while a hot Spring Valley team heads to North Rockland.
My colleague Nancy Haggerty will be at the North Rockland-Spring Valley game. Follow her @HaggertyNancy for updates on the game.
I’ll be heading out to Mount Vernon to see them in their home opener against Scarsdale. I’ve had three straight games with great crowds and I’m hoping this one won’t disappoint. Something tells me it won’t.
I’ll continue my takeover of Josh’s twitter, so follow me there for updates (@LohudInsider).

Lets Go Huskies
Wow Dan… where’s the love. the game of the day is clearly 6-2 Harrison at Byram Hills.. not even a mention ??? I realize its not as exciting as the daily chronicling Ian Thom’s race to 1000 pts or Palisade vs Clark ??? but C’mon..
Additionally, you wrote of great HS environments earlier in the week. Byram Hills on a Friday Night is usually one of the most raucous places to play..
Byram is very tough, but Harrison a lot better than anyone has commented on. BH 53 HHs 49.. but dont be surprised if it goes the other way, or if Harrison takes them out at the Husky dome like they did last year…
The 11 Rockland county schools are “exploring” a possibilty of returning to Section 9. I guess they are feed up with the lack of leadership that exsists in Section 1. I could see alot more disticts jumping ship in the near future.
Ill have an update of the Lakeland/Panas game at about 515. I have work at 530 and won’t be able too see the end
Wish Rockland would have left about 7 years ago, lol. Dutchess schools did the same. Section 1 may fall to just Westchester and Putnam one day.
OldHeadHoops,
There is no loved lost for either Harrison or Byram Hills. The fact of the matter is that I could make a case for every game on the schedule every day. Most the time team records don’t necessarily dictate what does or doesn’t make a good game.
A perfect example of this is the game I covered yesterday. On paper, Brewster (2-7) heading into Somers (7-1) shouldn’t have even been close. It turned out to be one of the most exciting games I have seen all year.
BH-Harrison should be interesting as the Bobcats are coming off a tough loss. Byram can use that loss as a building block to grow from, but first they need to get through a solid Huskies team.

Dan,
Allthough Brewster is 2-7 they played there first 4 games without Cirocco and Patterson. They have played much better since they have returned and have played probably the toughest part of their schedule
BIG MOMENT;
MOUNT VERNON-78 SCARSDALE-48
Rotten
I have been impressed with Harrison. Lefkowitz lving up to his reputation and Pipitone doing a great job at point….Few have noticed Esposito yet, but cant only gameplan against Lefkowitz or he will kill you. They may not be ready for BH yet, but we’ll see
Bearsdad,
I meant no disrespect to Brewster. In fact, I was using them as an example of a team thats record does not necessarily indicate how good they are. They’ve had a few close ones, including a six-point OT loss to a strong Scarsdale team. Cirocco is very good, and had it not been for Decker’s last-second heroics he would have been the game’s MVP.

I don’t know about that score. Scarsdale put a beat down on WP. Game might be competitive.
That being said I hope your right…...
Dan,
Did not take your comments as being disrespectful. Just wanted to point out that two key players were out with injuries at the beginning
Of the season. Always appreciate your coverage of the games.

Its great to see Harrison having success. Gary Chirella is a great guy and coach. This game could go down to the wire and I hope my Huskies pull this one out as start to get some recognition.
Haywood Haywood Haywood!!!

I apologize you we’re on the money.
Scarsdale has some talent but they ran into
A buzz saw today.
MV71,
THESE KIDS AREN’T AS TALENTED AS PAST TEAMS,BUT THEY ARE NASTY TOUGH,AND PLAY HARDER DEFENSE
Dobbs over irvington
Big Joe is good. He has had the flu that is going around the past couple of weeks. He misses football but he or we are impressed and thrilled that the Harrison BB team is doing great. If they keep it up maybe we will travel to a game..
Haywood
This MV Team is the least talented team in the last 12 years in my opinion but I love how they scrap. I dont know how far there are going to go but wouldn’t bet against them at least to the gold ball.
MVFAN71,
I BELIEVE THEY CAN GET BACK TO THE FALLS,WE SHALL SEE
