Someone asked this morning if was OK, which is understandable seeing how I’m out of work right in the middle of basketball season. Well, quite frankly, I’ve never been better.
My wife and I had our first baby on Tuesday afternoon. Her name is Olivia and she is the newest addition to the Varsity Insider Team. (Sorry, Dan.)
Olivia (baby, pictured right) arrived at 1:44 p.m. and checked in at a healthy 7 lbs., 7 oz. Both mom and baby are doing great and we plan on returning home Saturday.
I’ll be out through the Martin Luther King holiday, but will return on Jan. 22nd. Although I’m on daddy duty, Dan has done — and, no doubt, will continue to do — a tremendous job in my absence. He and our colleague Nancy Haggerty will handle most of the coverage from now until then.
Until we speak again, enjoy the basketball. Thanks for your concerns, but, like I said, life now is better than ever…

Seriously, many heartfelt blessings upon Olivia, mother and father too. Your posting a ‘proud papa’ photo speaks volumes about the joy and pride you must be feeling right about now.
Please don’t make the same mistake I did with my daughter [now 41..gulp!] I dragged her around to all my basketball games and tournaments, to the point where as a teenager she screamed at me, “No mas!”
Of course now, what comes around goes around…..she is doing double duty schlepping her two sons [13 and 9] to basketball games and tournaments. LOL!!
