And then there were two…
We started the day with four undefeated teams and end with only two.
With two undefeated teams facing off against each other (Palisade Prep vs. Children’s Village) I knew we would only have three at days end, but I have to admit that I didn’t see Nyack topping Briarcliff.
Now Palisade Prep and North Rockland are the only two local teams with unblemished records. Both squards are in action at home Friday as the Phoenix play Clark Academy while the Red Raiders take on Spring Valley.
As Josh said on Monday, it seems like there has been an influx of buzzer beaters this season. Today did not disappoint. Terrence McNair got his second of the season as he helped Nyack hand Briarcliff their first loss of the season.
Croton-Harmon was able to come back from being 17 points down at halftime to win thanks to Jason Howald completing a 3-point play to essentially end the game.
I’ll be back later with my recap from Clarkstown North’s 67-57 win over Clarkstown South. The Rams have now won five straight.

White Plains athletics is a joke.
Sorry but how many wins does a team need to make sectionals?
JAMES,
I BELIEVE YOU HAVE TO HAVE A 5 HUNDRED RECORD OR BETTER.
Demello made a huge mistake going to WP. They still have to play Poughkeepsie, MV twice, NewRo again! scarsdale again and Mamaroneck twice, Ossining and one other non section 1 team. How can they be so bad? They may not win 5 games.
Here is how you get in
PLAYOFF CRITERIA
How to qualify
A team must have a winning percentage of at least: – 25-percent of overall games
– 25-percent of league games
– 25-percent of class games
– 25-percent of class games, and above
Note: Only games played within the NYS Federation (NYSPHSAA, CHSAA, PSAL and NYIS) will count towards seeding formula. Games against out-of-state opponents will not be counted.
The formula
– Every victory counts as FOUR points, regardless of class
– Teams receive TWO bonus points for playing an opponent that finishes with a winning percentage of .750 and above by Feb. 13 (regardless if they win or lose). Opponents overall records will be counted.
– Teams receive ONE bonus point for playing an opponent that finishes with a winning percentage between .500-.750 by Feb. 13 (regardless if they win or lose). Opponents overall records will be counted.
– Once all points are tabulated, divide that sum by the total of games played against NYS Federation competition.
Tiebreakers
– Head to head
– Bonus points earned
– Winning percentage
– Common opponent
– Committee decision
Gentlemen,
You guys follow this a lot deeper than I do…Is there anyone in Class B that can beat Putnam Valley??? Please let me know what you think…
Since a team can only have a 16-18 game schedule, depending a team should win 5 games but can win 4 if having a 16 game schedule to make sectionals.
college football dad – yes there are teams that can beat put valley. class b is so deep this year there truly is no frontrunner. briarcliff matches up well with put valley
Haywood Haywood Haywood LOL How about them Huskies
Superfan
Unfortunately kids want the limelight and parents direct them. They obviously felt that in success, WP offers more exposure (vs MV and the big boys) than Kennedy. Would De Mello and Kennedy both be better off if he stayed , of course; but with coaching changes at JFK they could no longer run the program.
In fairness, its a 2 year experiment and while year 1 looks like a disaster but cant really evaluate the move til the end of next season.
College Football Dad,
I think Lourdes can give them a game. The knock on them is that they only have 8 kids on the roster b/c a few Football guys focused on the off-season lifting plan.
Braircliff could also be a factor. Watch out for Woodlands as well. Nice athletes and you can never count a Bob Murphy coached team out.
Statesman, Class B
Thanks guys, I guess anyone can be beat any given day/night. I just haven’t seen it outta class B.
I guess we’ll see come sectionals…
College Pops,
No problem. PV is the clear cut favorite, if they stay humble, they’ll do well. Like you said, anything can go down so it should be fun.
What has happened to White Plains? Losing to Scarsdale?? They were a strong program until recently, pretty frightening in football and now hoops…
