Tough day to be an Irish fan, huh?
It’s ok. Wash that sorrow away with a full slate of boys hoops games. Iona Prep gets to take on mighty Cardinal Hayes, the only team to beat Stepinac this year. Peekskill is back in action after a close three-point win over Kennedy. Rye Neck has a quick turnaround, playing less than 24 hours after their thrilling win over Valhalla.
I’ll be at Pearl River to see them take on Albertus Magnus in one of our #GOTW picks. I’ll be taking over Josh’s account, so you can follow @LoHudInsider for updates on the game.
As always, check back here at night for all the roundups.
Today’s schedule:
Cardinal Hayes at Iona Prep, 4 p.m.
Albertus Magnus at Pearl River, 4 p.m.
St. Agnes at Sacred Heart, 4:30 p.m.
St. Joe’s by the Sea at Salesian, 4:30 p.m.
Somers at Carmel, 6 p.m.

Bronxville at Haldane, 6 p.m.

STATESMAN,
LINDEN N.J. LEADING BYRAM HILLS 4TH Q
THE LAST TIME PANAS BEAT PEEKSKILL,ELTON BRAND WAS ON THE TEAM,WOW
Not surprising. Nice test that wont hurt BH. Wonder how no shot clock is working out.
byram lost by 5… great game….agree great test for byram
Pioneers… impressive

Admiral,
Looking forward to rematch. Hopefully I can make it. Every game is it’s own battle so you never know what can happen. Have a good one.
great win for coach laffin and the boys…....arlington needs to play first, talk later
Admirals:
“Today’s game will be tough but in the end our boys are a better team. Pok has talent but are not tough. We got this. Pack the house! Gio’s house. Riccccoooo getting buckets! Duff hitting 3’s!! JL banging the boards. Arlington 72 Pok 62 bank on it.”
Dude, watch what you write up here … Pok players saw what u wrote and they were pissed. Thanks for the motivation (arrogance) and lack of humility! Funny thing is Hamilton still have football legs. We still have tons of work/improvement to do and the kids agree they can get better.
Keep posting, dont listen to him Admiral! If they come out like that every game and better, I wont worry. Nothing like a little bulletin board material to get you going!
Tough game. Poughkeepsie is really good. Look forward seeing them play again.
Arlington doesn’t have the right head coach for the job, they frankly don’t win big games with Hoyt at the helm. Verdis should have that job, knows what he’s doing.
I tip my hat to Byram Hills for scheduling a very tough Linden program. I don’t know how good Linden is this year, but they have been one of the better programs in NJ in recent years. Just going to NJ and competing is an accomplishment for a suburban Class A team that had yet to play similar competition. Good luck to BH the rest of the way.
what happened at Iona
Linden ranked #7 on MSG Varsity in Tri State
Statesman,
Thanks for the tip on the Knight video. Great to see him getting credit for helping at the fire emergency. It also was great to see him playing with terrific intensity today, after a long layoff.
Linden is in the top 175 in the country in the latest Max Preps rankings. For comparison, LI Lutheran is 329, Hayes is 540, North Rockland is 1013.
MILTON,
LINDEN PLAYED MOUNT VERNON TWICE,I THINK THEY ARE AA,NO SHOT CLOCK IN JERSEY
They’re Group 4, the AA equivalent, almost exactly the same size as Mt. Vernon. About 3 times larger than Byram.
Linden is the MV of New jersey. Always tough public school. They seem to be good every year.
If Byram hung with them, they must be legit. Losses like that are much better then beating some no name by 20. Will only make them better come play off time.
MV Fan,
Totally agreed. Class A is nuts, I can’t even rank anymore but Byram is my #1. Here is a list of my contenders in no particular order.
Byram
Albertus Magnus
Nyack
Panas
Peekskill
Poughkeepsie
Somers
TZ [Can’t count them out!]
Next bunch is also good and one or a few can move up.
Eastchester
Saunders
Class A is just too much… Byram, PK, Peekskill, Albertus. Its a toss up between these 4…plus Eastchester, Pelham, and Panas are not too bad either. Plus Burke Catholic is realll good. They beat Don Bosco and they’ve played a schedule tougher than any Sect.1 A team. I do hope PK comes through.
As for Linden, they’re a solid solid program, but they are ranked a little too high for my liking. I don’t even know if they’ll win the Jersey Group 4 title, Atlantic City, East Brunswick and Hackensack might have something to say about that. Regardless, they are a solid program. Their football program turns out solid foodball players too..although the team is now always solid.
What time is the PK/WP game on Saturday and is it at Saunders?
Rocket,
I hear you on that… Murderers row. AM moving up only made it worse. Glad Lourdes is in B or they could make a run too. I forgot about Pelham and Beacon may surprise a few teams…
4pm at New Roc City… I assume that’s the Monroe College gym? Not sure if it’s NRHS.
Thx for the info states. Seems like Ray Knight has provided some spark into PK basketball. I’m really encouraged by yesterdays win…eventhough theres still a long way to go. But I thought it’d be closer. When these guys hit their stride they should be solid. Any time table on Weir coming back yet?
Rocket,
No problem. Knight has that nice energy that rolls over to the team. Adds to the depth at guard. Smith and he are aggressive so they tend to pick up fouls. Now they can’t be undermanned and can play their game.
Josh Taylor has also been a gem so far, very important piece to the team.
I had a quick chat w/ Weir last Friday. He got evaluated yesterday and seems ready to be back soon. He, Hamilton and Elvy rotating in at the 4/5 will be depth that most A teams can’t match.
I was impressed with the win and am curious about the Lourdes team that beat Arlington by a similar margin. They only have 8 guys though, PK can play 12 players so that might wear them down a tad.
Things are looking up. Day by day they’ll work hard and will get it together. Very happy with their improvement.
Yeah, believe it or not i have yet to see them yet. Living & working in Brooklyn makes it hard, an d when Im back in the valley visiting, they dont usually play when Im around. Ive been catching a lot of PSAL action down here and Ill say this, Im pretty impressed with Brooklyns AA division…and Lincoln is the best public school in the state this year. They will be the best next year too with Isaiah Whitehead and Desi Rodriguez coming back.
As for PK I’d love to see them play some teams down here. I heard the team with Nat’e hung with Boys and Girls. Im not impressed with our schedule this year. (Peekskill, Kingston, White Plains) are solid. But we need to play some PSAL and CHSAA powers to prepare us for the sect 1 tourney. Either way I’m trying to see them saturday and Im excited because I havent seen them live this season.
Rocket,
If your talking about the Max preps rankings they are the worst. Worse then the nys sportswriters
If you can believe that.
