It’s Monday, and, yes, people hate Mondays. But not here on the Varsity Insider blog. Another Monday means another chance to earn our top weekly honor: Player of the Week.
You know the drill: Dan and I will each pick a player of the week each week. We’ll take your suggestions on Twitter. You can tweet us your suggestions @LoHudInsider and @LoHud_DeFran using the hashtag #POTW.
I’ll keep a log of our selections every Monday. This week, we have our first double-winner. Dan and I choose our winners separately, but this time we ended up in exactly the same place.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise. Here’s why…
Josh’s POTW: Brendan Hynes, Mahopac —
This 6-foot-2 senior packed a week’s worth of production into one 24-hour period. He was his typically competitive self and most importantly led Mahopac to a 2-0 week.
Hynes had a standard game on Friday night in a 59-48 victory at Putnam County rival Brewster. He scored 19 points to go with eight rebounds and five assists. But Hynes really earned #POTW honors on Saturday. With his Indians pitted against a desperate White Plains team, Hynes’ energy level seemed like it was at an all-time high. So was his production.
Hynes finished the game with 37 points and 10 rebounds. He shot a sterling 10 for 15 from the field and hit 14 of 18 from the foul line. He made key baskets throughout, including a key bank shot to beat the shot clock and a three-point play in the fourth quarter.
Hynes’ play helped extend Mahopac’s winning streak to three games and improve the team’s record to 5-3 after its somewhat disappointing start.
Dan’s POTW: Brendan Hynes, Mahopac —
Hynes hits all my requirements, putting up big numbers (28 ppg, 9 rpg) en route to strong victories for his team. The cherry on top comes when you realize the fact he did this in games that took place less than 24 hours apart.
Also, consider that the stronger of the two performances came in the 72-70 OT win against White Plains (37 points, 10 rebounds). The Indians have now won three straight thanks in large part to the play of Hynes.

GREAT WEEK, FOR A REAL GOOD PLAYER,CONGRATS
Congrats to Hynes.
Good for Mr. Hynes! Talented athlete. Maybe his play will inspiire his teammates to raise the level of their play. Very inconistent and no killer instinct when playing with a lead.
Congrats again Mr. Hynes!!
