In the same vein as our top preseason football honorees, the Super 11, the area’s top boys basketball players are honored each year as the Super 7.
This year’s Super 7 will be announced on Friday. I wanted to post here to ask for your suggestions. All five of last year’s first-team all-stars in Westchester/Putnam graduated. So did all five of last year’s first-team all-county picks in Rockland.
Having said that, there are a few names that garnered recognition last year who will return. And there are a few rising stars that have already attracted attention from colleges.
Let’s hear who you think deserves to be selected Super 7.

Wood, great list.. Deagen should be on that list but he is still somewhat unknown and his resume doesn’t compare to Letizia. So I do expect him to be left off.
HRs,
Just looking out
paschall
josh james
lynch
degnan
jamal lewis
doughty
jack sullivan
sleepers: 2nd level class B’ers Daniels (bcliff) and Adler (blind brook)—paschall is in a class by himself of course
Paschall, Josh James, Doughty, Sullivan, Degnan, naim thomas (Step) Lynch. If Lynch is not healthy as it is rumored he is not no way he should be on this list.
Next group- Dancy PK, Daniels Bcliff, Adler BB, Hynes Mahopac, Clarke New Ro, Letizia TZ, Decker Somers, Big kid from Scarsdale, forget his name, Thom Croton, Golden, Byram, Harrison Brown, Greely, Demello, WP. Dweck, Panas. Should probably be at last one more from MV but I will leave that to Haywood as he knows the roster. Also probably at least one from Spring Valley who will be a sleeper this yr and one from North Rockland who will also be very good and should get to the CC. Final four in AA, MV, New Ro, NR, Spring Valley, Final four A- PK, Peek, Byram, TZ MV and PK win it all!!
JUST A NOTE;
BRANDON MARTIN FROM MOUNT VERNON IS MY SLEEPER PICK,THIS KID IS FUNDAMENTALLY SOUND ONLY A JR.
JAMAL LEWIS FROM MOUNT VERNON WILL DO DAMAGE
Jack Daly of Eastchster on last years stats alone !!!!!
Look for Jack Sullivan to have a big year for Albertus. Look out for North Rockland this year, they have got some talented ball players.
Paschall
James
Sullivan
Doughty
Clarke
Lynch
Daly
All great selections but Hynes needs to be on that list , hard to pick 7 but think he is deserving.
On another note Carissimo looked tough last night against Harvard and reminded me alot like Kevin Houston. Also Voelkel had a good game, but if I were him I would start thinking about the NFL, looks like he could be the next Mark Bavaro.
Paschall
Letizia
Clarke
Daly
Doughty

Glad the blog is up and running. I call it my sweet escape from doing work. Keep it up guys.
Leitzia is a good player. Very interested to see how he fares without a squad as loaded as last season but solid nonetheless.
Paschall
Lynch
James
Daniels (He definitely should be there)
Letizia (His defense and accomplishments alone should put him there)
Martin (He is a great and dynamic player)
Daly/Dougherty/Lewis/Clarke/Deagen/Decker/Thomas and you guys are forgetting Twyman from rye
Definitely not an easy year to pick the top 7. In “A” it will be BH vs POK. I will tell you if Lynch is healthy this is maybe the best “team” in westchester. “B” division is wide open with Briarcliff as favorite/Dobbs/North Salem/Blind Brook/Pleasantville/Vahalla with 2 transfers etc…
Question – will Tuckahoe be a good team?
Got to put the hynes kid from mahopac on the list based on last years numbers (19 pts & 10rebs) led a young team to AA final also held last year Super 7 kid from fox lane scorelrss in AA semis
You are leaving out John Decker who is leading a very very talented Somers team this year. John dropped 36 on Mahopac last year (AA Section 1 Finalist) in a big home victory for a team that had no buisness being in a game with them.. twice!
And had zero points at Mahopac ..nice player though
Think Sullivan is way overrated( I know he signed w/umass- ).. I mean he’s no McGuiness! Guess the AM PR bandwagon is in full swing..would take letizia any and every day( not even from Tz..more North)
Josh,
Good luck picking seven!!!
You obviously don’t know talent
Sullivan vs Letizia, it not even close.
Sullivan all the way and he’s more athletic on the basketball court than Letizia.
On the football field it’s a different story.
A few things on the Letizia vs Sullivan debate:
1. You can’t say that Letizia is deserving based on championships because Jack also has two Gold Balls to his name.
2. Both players have been surrounded by superior talent their whole careers. They will both be asked to carry more of the load this year (Sullivan more than Letizia). Which player will be able to step up and put the team on their back? Only time will tell.
3. I happen to think that Jack is a better BASKETBALL PLAYER. Letizia to me has always been a tough, defensive minded player, that is one of the best glue guys around. Again, just my opinion.
4. I happen to think Jack will be one of the leading scorers in the section this year. Jack will be relied on to score A TON this year for Albertus to be competitive. I just think that this makes Jack more deserving (clear Albertus bias aside haha).
Falcon Fan, not to take away from Jack, but just to be clear Jack signed with Umass/Lowell. Not Umass(D1).
And he isn’t over rated by any means. Excellent shooter and defender. Works extremely hard hence receiving a scholarship to play ball.
Does anyone know the teams record head to head the last few years???? AM VS TZ
Forgot about Decker, nice player that certainly deserves a look in the super 7. Saw the game at Somers against Pac and he was lights . My thoughts on Hynes is that he”s such a comlete player on both ends of the court and very unselfish, he comes to play on every possesion with that blue collar attitude I just think it would be hard to keep him off.
brendan hynes
Again ..Decker had ZERO points the next time Somers played Pac …
is UMass/Lowell D2 or D1?
U Mass Lowell is one of the better D 2 programs in the north east
It’s in the same league as St Anselm, St. Rose, and Lemoyne so there is a lot of local talent in that conference
Daly is an excellent basketball player, hell turn out to be the best pure player from Eastchester after these 2 years. Lack of talent surrounding him though will hurt him, unfortunately. Put this kid on a team with some weapons and it would be really special to watch him control that offense.
Hynes was 2md team all star last season no way he doesnt make the list .lot of the guys mentioned have mot done anything yet
I guess a player who lives in Westchester but plays in the Bronx can’t be included, since Malik Gill from New Rochelle was 1st. team all-state and didn’t make the list. Shouldn’t players from the Bronx who play in a Westchester schools get similar treatment?
Letizia is stronger, can control the pace of a game, plays great D and can knock down a big shot when called on. The kid is a bull.
Sullivan is like a deer on the court, great leaper, good defender and a great scorer. Most teams will key on him but he will still get his points. Always appears to be in excellent shape.
You can’t go wrong with either one. I would take Sullivan.
I hear Degnan has improved his game a lot but from what I have seen over the last year or so, I would take Sullivan over Degnan as well, at this point.
