Yes yes yes. I remember Poughkeepsie had a linebacker Matt Featherston in 04 who was amazing but didn’t really get looks. He got invited to an all-start game down in Louisiana or Texas, and before he came back to New York he had two scholarship offers from Texas A&M and Michigan State (he ended up playing at A&M), but how would he have gotten that opportunity if he didnt get to that game.
Spring Valley use to have an awesome running back named Emmanuel Marc back in 2000. He was heavily overlooked. He went to HVCC and became the top JUCO player in the COUNTRY. Gotta full ride to Utah around the time when Urban was over there. He ended up transferring to a Del State and had a decent career.
The most recent crazy one was Jaiquawn Jarrett a current strong safety for the Eagles. He did not get one scholarship offer out of Fort Hamilton. Temple lost a committment in 07 and picked him up instead. He became an all-star player and was drafted in the 2nd round of 2011 draft. Junior Gillette starting on the Saints D-Line, another Spring Valley native too.
In 2011 there were MORE NFL players born in New York than Jersey, PA, Michigan and Virginia. NEW YORK ranks 7th out of the 50 states with players originally from NY! So much for a lack of talent. (granted some of our talent is raised in other places, but its still solid)

Marc was real good from Spring Valley. I think pound for pound Spring Valley produces as much talent as almost any other place in Section 1 territory.
Im not sure if you remember but back in 04 football season, New Ro scrimmaged Ramapo, and from what I remember Ramapo was a handful. To be honest I can’t say outside of Ray and Geoff that New Ro has way more talent than Ramapo. Ramapo had a big running back named Morgan Hall and a good QB Claude Daniel, Obi Ezemma (buffalo then virginia union), Manny Carter. They were good. Imagine if they had the type of program New Ro has? I’ve seen some talented athletes over there.

As for SV yes the powers that be don’t support ANYTHING! I have to be careful not to offend or step on toes but right now there is a big fight over control over the schoolboard and funding between the large Hasidic community of East Ramapo and the Black/Hispanic community. Lets just say the Black/Hispanic community are in the public system..and are not getting money put in their schools. To be honest..Im surprised they still have active sports out there with the money issues now.

#1 – D1 football has a huge effect on local sports. Look at all the D1basketball schools in downstate NY (St. John’s, Wagner, LIU, Hofstra, St. Joes BK, Manhattan, Columbia, Fordham, Marist, Army, Stony Brook University, Iona)..then others outside downstate…Cuse, Albany, Binghamton, Buffalo, St. Bonaventure, Niagara, Colgate, Siena, Canisius). You can’t tell me this doesn’t effect the basketball culture all over the state. DI programs right in every kids yard.
#2 – a BCS program downstate would be tremendous. It would give the kids something tangible that they can see would be the fruits of their investment in football. It would force Cuse to step its game up too.
#3 – Football UNITES communities in America like no other sport I’ve seen. Basketball is good too, but can’t really compare with what football can do in a community.
#4-As for the East Ramapo District, lets pray the state comes in and makes moves because it will only hurt Ramapo and Spring Valley football. There’s just too much talent for them to be so incredibly mediocre. They have way more talent than North Rockland, but NR has their number.

Though you and Rocket seem to be hitting the pavement hard looking/seeing all types of players across NYC and the country.
It is fun to see film of some of the kids that are in HS who will be playing on TV on Saturday afternoons. One of my favorite to date besides the 4.4, Tavon Austin is Justin Fargas HS video if you need to see what a Pro RB looks like in HS.

Just,
Yes the East Ramapo saga is a big disgrace to America. Imagine paying taxes for your kids to lose extracurricular activities to a private school which has absolutely no investment in your community. I really hope the state steps in and makes a decision about this issue! Too much at stake. And its about more than football. Its about giving kids something to do and stay out of trouble. Although im from the Hudson Valley, I currently live in NYC so I’m always trying to catch any action I can. I still prefer HV sports though. NYC has recruiting loopholes with pubs too, so I really love smalltown/city homegrown local sports which the HV has.
PPR,
I’m sure you and Just had an indepth discussion about it too. But we need that tangible reward out here. Kids in Pennsylvania dream to play at PSU, kids in Ohio dream to play at OSU, and even UCONN has becoming an official flagship and pipeline for CT kids. New York with 20million people doesn’t have anything. And IM SICK AND TIRED of people calling Rutgers the team of NYC metro. Most NYers could care less about Rutgers. Granted Ray Rice had a great career there but, thats not our team. Cuse was his original choice anyway. Rutgers football doesn’t do much for NY football except steal more of our talent from Rockland and Orange County.
Statesman
Rocket,
Because of that non flag ship program, it opens the NY D-3’s to recruit heavy and become very good in the process.
rocket
States,
Correct. So many good progams, plus the “biggest-little” game with the Cortaca Jug with Ithaca and Cortland. But things would be even better if we had the flagship program! It would absolutely trickle down to our high school programs. Its mutual issue, because you have to have good instate players and programs to have a good instate flagship program.
The only case where I’ve seen a turnaround with mostyl out of state recruiting was mostly the Rutgers change. Schiano was allll over South Florida recruiting guys and bringing them up to Jersey. Billboards all over Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. Of course he had Ray Rice and Geoff McDermott too. But this in turn encouraged Jersey guys to stay in state. Back then more Jersey guys went to PSU, MD, BC, UVA and other Northeastern/MidAtlantic states. Now all that Jersey talent is staying in Jersey. We need what in New York. Our only downstate hope would be Stony Brook if it became an FBS school. D3 football is great here, but I think a powerful DI program would be even better for the state as a whole

Imagine if they had the type of program New Ro has? I’ve seen some talented athletes over there.

I TOUCH BASE ON THE UNDER RECRUITMENT OF NEW YORK PLAYERS ABOUT 16 MONTHS AGO!!.. AND I SAID NEW YORK NEED TO STAND BEHIND IT’S PRODUCT!!.. WELL NEW YORK DOES NOT!!.. IT APPEARS THAT THEY WILL STAND BEHIND IT’S BASKETBALL 24/7 BUT WHEN T COMES TO IT’S FOOTBALL IT DOES NOT!!,, AND I THINK PART OF IT IS BIAS!!.... I ALWAYS SAY THE WRITERS NEED TO PUT TRY AND PUT ON A ALL-STAR GAME!!.. OR PUT TOGETHER BETTER BOWL GAMES!.. AND HAVE BETTER ALL-STAR SELECTIONS!.. ENOUGH IS NOT BEING DONE…..#NEW YORK NEED GET A NORTH JERSEY VS SOUTH NY AND A NORTH NY VS SOUTH JERSEY!!... ALL STAR GAME!...

PPR,
I’m surprised you know about Jaqiuawn. Like alot of NYC football players..hes underrated. The opposite of their basketball players (a tad bit overrated or overhyped I should say).
ROCKET.. I BEEN AROUND!!.. AND ASK ALOT OF QUESTION!!.. LOL!!.. I HAVE INTRODUCED ALOT OF PLAYERS FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY TO OUR BLOGGING COMMUNITY!!.. I FOLLOW FOOTBALL PLAYERS ALL AROUND THE COUNTRY!.. I TRY TO STAY IN TOUCH!.. I HAVE BEEN UP AND DOWN THE EAST COAST WATCHING FOOTBALL GAMES HAVE BEEN OUT WEST TO GET A BETTER UNDERSTANDING AS TO WHY THEY FEEL THE TALENT IN TX, FL, CA, AND PA IS MUCH, MUCH BETTER THEN NEW YORK!!..
AS FOR SPRING VALLEY!.. THEY ALWAYS HAVE VERY , VERY GOOD TALENT THERE!.. I THINK THE POWERS THAT BE IN SPRING VALLEY IS NOT SUPPORTIVE OF THE FOOTBALL ….
AS FOR RAMPOO TRADITIONALLY HAS SPECIAL TALENT ON THE FIELD. I THINK THERE IS DISCONNECT SOMEWHERE MAYBE ITS THE COMMUNITY OR THE COACHES!!.. BUT I THINK THEY HAVE THE TALENT TO BE A FORCE!!.. EVERY YEAR!!..
PS….. KEITH BULLOCK (NFL TITANS) IS FROM SPRING VALLEY ALSO
I remember a trip to SV back in the day… Long drive. A certain Seth Joyner has a mural there, taking it back huh
STATES
THANKS,......I WAS MEANING SETH JOYNER…BULLOCK PLAYED CLARKSTOWN NORTH
New ro has more talent because new ro pool bigger… ( enrillment). It is true don’t care what anyone says!!!!
1 + 1 = 2….
Ps.. Prince, u sure know slot from your mother’s basement!!!!!

I can see you do get around. I’ve been around too and spent significant time in different places in the Northeast. But Im right with you trying to find a way to put New York on the map. Its funny because TX was always a football state, but now they get a lot love in basketball. We were always a basketball state, but can’t get love in football.
States,
Yes, the number of PK guys going DI will increase! Barger is the right guy for the job! I also believe that the PK basketball program although it is storied already, will also be motivated to improve as a result of football improving. Its a domino effect that I’m excited to see!!
Prince,
Still Section 1 kid!
Rocket,
you got that right. no more runner ups now that Football has the chip and is a contender! the team right now is mighty impressive

ROCK…. I THINK ONCE WE AS A STATE TAKE PRIDE IN OUR FOOTBALL!!.. THINGS WILL CHANGE!! ONCE OUR D1 COLLEGE PROGRAMS INVEST IN NEW YORK THINGS WILL GET BETTER , STOP LETTING OUR GREAT TALENT GO ELSEWHERE!!.. WE NEED A D1 FOOTBALL PROGRAM IN THE SOUTHERN PART OF NEW YORK!.... I ONCE POSTED THE ROSTER OF OUR LOCAL FOOTBALL PROGRAMS AND HOW MANY KIDS WHERE FROM OUT OF STATE IT WAS AMAZING!!!.. HOFSTRA I BELIEVE FELL APART B/C THE TEAM WAS MOSTLY PLAYERS FROM OUT OF STATE SO THEY COULD NOT GET FANS TO THE GAME.. PPL WHERE NOT INTERESTED IN WATCHING PLAYERS THEY DO NOT KNOW!!!.... IMO!!
Prince,
eff em all, mothereff em all
STATE
WITH BOTH FINGAHS!!... LOL!!
East Ramapo board of ed saga is an embarrassment to America!!!!
How can people who do not have kids in public school system be in charge of the decision making??? YES !!! I said it!!!
The biggest rac ist events going on in our area! Even bigger then the rac ist refs!!!!!
Lolol.. Sorry had to do it one last time…the rest I am de ad serious about!
Voting blocks can’t be beat!!!
Sports will end soon in east ramapo… Take it to the bank.. Until a leader with a pair steps forward!!
Rocket
I said last year when me and just facts!..talk this topic up on the blog!!. That New York kids do not see the reward in New York football the colleges are unsuccessful or not stepping there game up!! The pro teams are in New Jersey!!.. All these lil things effect the New York football culture!!.. All the top football combine overlook New York talent!!... It’s crazy!!..
Prince, you and Rocket were speaking so much truth about NY football and the lack of respect and did remind me of our previous convo’s.
Rocket,
Because of that non flag ship program, it opens the NY D-3’s to recruit heavy and become very good in the process.
States,

I TOTALLY AGREE RUTGERS DO NOT RESPECT NEW YORK IT JUST TAKE FROM US AND THAT’S IT.. THE FUNNY PART RUTGERS WAS THE GARBAGE CAN!!.. UNTIL RAY RICE.AND THE REST OF THE NEW YORK GUYS SHOWED UP!!..
