Tonight’s Class A championship between Somers and Sleepy Hollow has been postponed because of inclement weather. The game has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday.
Of course, the snow, sleet, rain, wind and cold – you know, the usual – is expected to last deep into the night. Stay tuned about tomorrow. As of now, the game will still be played at Mahopac High School, but the storm will likely be worse there than in other part of the section.
Also, with this postponement, the Class A state quarterfinal that had been scheduled for Sunday has been pushed to Monday. It is still scheduled for Mahopac as well, but the time has not been set. Remember: Monday is Veterans Day, meaning schools will NOT be in session.

Parent /wing I agree in some ways but wish there was another.. Kids shouldn’t punished for grown up mistakes.
Rockland/dutchess/Putnam … Please leave section 1. It is time… This is the only message that is reasonable… Until jenn Simmons resigns… She can save on all that bus fair…lolol…
She can govern smallest section in state…
Just, they are being punished by bad decisions right now.
The possibility of this happening should be enough to remove the current .leadership. I guarantee they will use the storms as an excuse, but we can’t let them get away with that. It was the original decision to start a week late and all of the decisions that resulted in the three games in eleven days scenario that put us in this position not the storms. The rest of the classes are ready to go.
Wing, that is why can’t come down hard on John moriello. Someone does have to look out for the kids from other sections who now are penalized with one less day of preparation should they advance.
Only a big statement has a chance at rocking the boat.. That I agree with.
Under the circumstances Moriello was correct in his assertion. A chance for Section 1 to stop the embarrassment would be to stop being selfish after they’ve ruined everything this year for Section 1 kids, why ruin it for others in the state. Remember we are being led by someone who said the non-playoff teams could play flag football but not real games. How can you take someone serious who makes that suggestion.
Section 90
“Has Cornwall ever beaten a team south of 287?” Yes, Harrison in 2007 and Roosevelt-Yonkers in 2010. Both games were state quarterfinal games. Cornwall lost to Nyack in 2009 in the greatest HS game I have ever seen. Almost all the teams in the MSG 25 are Catholic school that recruit or large AA city schools.
Dragon,
It was actually 2008, but it was an amazing football game. Your QB was unbelievable and if not for a tipped interception returned for a TD and a fumble inside the 10 it would have gone the other way.
I think the following image sums up my feelings towards the administrators of Section 1:

In any case, congratulations to Somers and Coach DeMatteo. Best of luck vs. Cornwall this Monday…

There was an amazing scene at the end of that game. The Nyack coach and Nyack players all surrounded the qb and kept congratulating him on his incredible game. Sportsmanship at its best
