Section 1 has postponed the Class A semifinals until Thursday and pushed the championship game to Monday.
The Sleepy Hollow-Brewster and Harrison-Somers semifinals were originally scheduled for Tuesday, but were pushed back a day on Sunday because of school cancellations. The section adjusted the schedule again today because of further school cancellations on Tuesday.
“The teams will have no practice today and tomorrow, so there’s no sense in us getting crazy,” Section 1 football chairman Chuck Scarpulla said. “They need to have at least one day of practice before the game.”
Because teams are required four nights of rest between games, the Class A championship game originally scheduled for Sunday has been postponed until Monday. It will likely be played late afternoon/early evening at Mahopac High School, but the time has yet to be finalized.
Scarpulla said the section will consider hosting all four of the other finals this Sunday at Mahopac, beginning in the morning. Currently, the Class AA, B and D finals are slated for Saturday at Mahopac.
Section 1 has also been in discussion with Section 9 to move the Class A and C state quarterfinals to Saturday, Nov. 10. Those games were originally scheduled for Friday, Nov. 9, at Mahopac.
Section 9 is currently scheduled to host the Section 1 Class B champion on Friday night (7 p.m.), Nov. 9, at Dietz Stadium in Kingston. Dietz will also play host to the Class D (3 p.m.) and AA (7 p.m.) on Saturday, Nov. 10.

Will woodlands vs rye neck be played in the morning or afternoon ?
All the more reason to go independent!! Get out of the state tourn.. leave less decisions up to the commitee, get your freedom, section one football would thrive I’m telling you
haha is right. There are only two ways to fix this mess. 1) Parents get so involved that superintendents and ADs have no choice but to address the issues. Problem is the most outraged parents are those of seniors, and when the season ends so does their desire for action since junior is no longer hurt by the system. 2) Bite the bullet and go independent for a year. Look at the power given to the teams who went developmental for doing so. Simmons, McCarthy and the rest of the comittee bent over backwards to get them back, which is where this ridiculous system comes from. Imagine the black eye they would suffer if all the top programs told section 1 to go scratch. Then when its all said and done, let someone who actuall knows what theyre doing fix the system. How bout guys like Louie D. and Tony D. on the new committee.
I strongly recommend as a fan that all four classes play Sunday and have class A play Monday. Not only would this make for an unbelievable atmosphere, but it would also be a huge money maker for the section! As a fan I come to Mahopac every year to watch the games no matter what teams are in it, and to have four games being played on a beautiful sunny day would he perfect. And I know I speak for many fans when I say this! I look forward to a full day of great high school football!
i would like to see Woodlands vs Rye Neck, Go Black Hats!!
What a story on Rye Neck only giving up 0 points all season, thats incredible and lets see what happens against the high powered spread offense orchestrated by Coach Meade
Who ever said stop playing in the state tourney do not have a clue!!!... All you have to do is push the start date back 3-4 days and this problem goes away!!!... # smh!!.. Football know it all!!! But knows nothing!!....
Prince,
I’ll be interested to see if you still feel that way when you see all the conditions the committee is attaching to aligning the start date with the rest of the state.
And I love the state tourney. Just think something drastic has to happen to break up Simmons/ McCarthy and company total control over section 1 football. Then once someone qualified is running things most definitely get back in the state tourney.
Keeping the State playoffs could work because we have so much competition in Class A. State tourney is good for Class 9 or 2 because they dont have any competition all season.
Holy crybabies batman. This blog is just one b fest. Whaaa Mamaroenck and Saunder got in the playoffs. Whaaaa we have to push the games back a couple of days. Whaaaaa whhhaaaa whaaaa. Lets go independent. Whaaaaaa. So we can have useless BS bowl games that mean nothing. Everyone gets a trophy. Whaaaa with the state tournament only one team is champion. Whaaaa. If we water it down and have 20 bowl games…. half the teams get a trophy. whaaaaa.
Whaaaaa this hurricane and state of emergency has really altered my plans. Whaaaa, i can’t adjust. whaaaaaa
All this competition in Class A doesnt mean squat when Class A hasnt won a state title in like 9 years.

Yes that is true and the way the system is written up it does not favor Section 1 Imo
Piner is the greatest: It is no coincidence that a 1 loss Harrison team went to the Dome in Class A in 2010; the one year A teams DIDN’T have to play 3 games in 11 days to get there. Alter the format and you’re bound to see more.
NO ELECTRIC POWER NO LIGHTS NO NIGHT GAMES
