and by the way, saunders scrimmaged harrison at new ro camp, each team got the ball for 10 minutes, twice. as soon as saunders got the ball it went right down field for a touch down, harrison scored a total of 2 td’s and saunders once. so 42-0 is a bit much, but than again u all know football like the back of ur hand.
yea, saunders when to new ro camp with all the big boys. We did because we were hungry to have a chance like this, so let us play our schedule and save your ignorant comments about a football team coming from a city that has deprived them of everything with the exception of its 7 game schedule.
@Saunders blue – I hope you get Harrison in the 1st round
@ Saunders blue Amen, to that. and
@Rotten Tomato. i hope we get Harrison to in the 1st round, if they think its going to be a walk in the park, let them think that
Whoever Saunders plays in first game it could be over by early 2nd quarter !
@football fan you can’t understand what has gone on in this city and there are a group of kids that are trying so hard for this, all you can do is put them down and talk about how they will get blown out, get over yourself and the fact that your team is not getting in because they lost half the game on their schedules. if they already lost to every team getting into the playoffs than y should they even get it, thats a waste of a spot.
rotten tomato im not saying we would beat harrison, at all. they are such a good, strong team. we can still end up with the 3 seed too and not play harrison(or if rye trips up harrison) in the first round. once all the football talent filters to saunders because of a little success and a new turf field on its campus (only school in yonkers to have that now) this won’t be an annual debate
@football fan whoever your team plays, it may or may not be over by early second quarter..oh wait, thats just a match up game that nobody will care about
Sports Motivation ?@Sports_HQ
•Great moments… are born from great opportunity. And that’s what you have here. -”Miracle”
@saunders blue actually team I root for is enjoying a upstart year … Already in the playoffs…. Just don’t think it’s fair that Saunders or port Chester gets in by playing weaker teams than pok or nyack
Yorktown should be in. Period. They beat ossining, eastchester ( who is only down bu virtue of who they played) nyack and lakeland. Lost to po and somers just like everyone else! Just like saunders and portchester would! If town gets no credit for beating the tougher teams that anyone has beaten (by anone’s standards including the commitees rank) with a harder sched, why in the world does saunders get credit for beating developmental teams? While i am happy for saunders port and even brewster in developing their program, i do not believe in social promotion.
Saunders Blue,
Very funny I mentioned Saunders turning into a magnet school for football in Yonkers. It’s all legal too. Might get bumped up to AA so the rest of us have a chance should that happen. No other place in Section 1 has that large of a population to work with. Good luck.
I think that it’s great that Saunders is making the playoffs. Once again are they better than all the teams missing out? No, but nobody is saying they are! I agree it is a testament to those kids who have so little that they can take pride in their team and what they have accomplished. It doesn’t matter who they played, they played the schedule they were given and won every single game. Sure the system may be flawed but it would be even worse if an undefeated team did not make the playoffs! I do not think Saunders would take down Harrison but they are by no means going to roll over and die. Those kids have tasted what it’s like to win and they’re sure as hell not willing to give that up so easily. I hope there is a huge upset during the playoffs so everybody can stop whining and realize that anything can happen in high school football, and sometimes your will is far more important than your reputation.
@statesman we will not be in AA, our school population will still be well below the cut off line, but like you said we will get the quality players, no doubt. it already started, we have a couple of freshman that will be much better than what we have now.
@football fan, POK deserves to get in and they will get in. Nyack doesnt deserve to be in, they lost and were thoroughly out coached against brewster so they dont deserve anything, POK does
rotten tomato u made a comment about how programs like eastchester and jjcr havent won a sectional title so we’d be crazy to think saunders ever will, do u remember roosevelt a couple years ago? got a few studs and that was that, they won a chip before eastchester and all those other power houses u mentioned..with that being said, what school in yonkers is in line to get a collection of studs and make a run soon? u guessed it
@kids lose very well put, that would be a tough break for those kids. life isnt always fair, like when saunders was dealt the toughest schedule in sec1
@Kids lose
You can not use the excuse that you only lost to the teams you should have or were supposed to lose to. Your school is continually good at football year after year and you simply didn’t rise to the occasion. In my opinion you need to stop using excuses and the system to blame the fact that you’re out. Next time your team should step up when needed instead of falling back on “We were supposed to lose”
@really your right u have to have will! we willed our way to victory saturday after they took the lead. we had a tough week, our best players dad past away, he missed the whole week and we practiced kids out of position to try to adjust, and one day we left practice early to go to the wake as a team. we still showed up saturday and punched a bunch of trash talking kids in the mouth, that score is not indicative of the game, believe me. Wilson King stepped on them.
@really just made the point i made in the first place, maybe yorktown is better that saunders, BUT THEY DONT BELONG ANYWAY, THEY PROVED IT, TWICE
@SAUNDERS Blue
I’m very sorry to hear about the loss that is truly terrible. From your posts I can assume that You’re on the team. If not this still applies. Good luck and I’ll be pulling for you. No matter the outcome be proud that you were part of the team that turned Saunders football around.
Saunders had some success through the air, specifically on a great deep ball from QB Kirstan Prenga that found RB Francisco Wilson King. Toward the end of their scrimmage against Pearl River though, their offensive line had a lot of trouble protecting Prenga.
from the scrimmage report earlier this year. This is what stood out about a Saunders team that went against Pearl River and maybe a winless Greeley ? dont remember… nothing stood out too me, not much to the writer either except “SOME success through the air” before the O’line got shaky against Pearl River.. the mighty Pirates….
this is a playoff team? we’ll see how things play out
The last part of this post is the problem in a nutshell.
“If Brewster Port and Saunders do not have to play the above ranked numbers…and the teams that do play the above ranked numbers (york oss po) get nothing extra… what kind of “system” is this. It is a developmental system for the bottom and a punitive system for the top.”
I just may copy this post into every blog until the section 1 football committee wakes up.
The most “unfortunate” part about this post is that “Unfortunate” does not post enough. He needs to post more of his brillance about how to solve this mess!!
unfortunate October 15th, 2012 at 2:09 pm
Hollow fan,
you are saying teams need to win to get in…Then teams need to win versus the same level of competion or YOU NEED TO WEIGHT IT! Not sure what everyone is missing here. Yorktown beat Nyack too! That is the point…but …oh yeah they had to wrestle with Somers and Po. You can’t just haphazzardly disregard that they DID have 1 and 2 along with 4 and 5 on their schedule. But it was disregarded in this system. Just like it was disregarded that an undefeated season while great, is not a true judge of anything for the lower half teams. I don’t call that parity because there was a system applied to the scheduling but NOT THE RESULTS of wins. Brewster played Eastchester and won by the skin of their teeth. How do you account for the top shelfers not getting enough “parity”...When # 3 plays 1,2 4 and 5 what do you expect is going to happen? It played out as expected! The only thing that didn’t is the system.
If Brewster Port and Saunders do not have to play the above ranked numbers…and the teams that do play the above ranked numbers (york oss po) get nothing extra… what kind of “system” is this. It is a developmental system for the bottom and a punitive system for the top.
@dm50 Jesus Christ get this guy a box of tissues no one wants to hear that anymore, they had 2 chances to cement their spot and they LOST
@haha your copying and pasting info from our scrimmage in camp? when we were still learning and putting our team together? our first year players werent ready to handle the different stunts or whatnot, not that i would expect you to know anything about football besides the fact that touchdowns are worth 6 and you get 4 downs, ur a joke
u want some more recent stats or info? the saunders D has allowed 7 pass completions in the past 3 games(including brewster and spring valley). Brewster and spring valley each completed at least 10 passes against Nyack, each.
everyone is on saunders so hard for making it, we still need to beat port chester. why is everyone counting out #3 port chester and counting in #4 saunders? sounds like you have a little more respect for us that you’d like to admit. we are not a great team or program by any means, just a bunch of hard working kids that played the hand they were dealt.
Saunders blue, please tell me how in your right mind you feel like your squad proved it. I would love to hear how Saunders proved it. You could not beat the teams Yorktown did. You certainly could not beat Somers or Poughkeepsie. So let me hear it. You should be in why again?
You argue that Yorktown deseves to be out because they play 1 and 2. You guys didn’t even play a top ranked team. You have only proven to have beaten the system. Good luck beating a real team.
For argument sake? Do you even have any knowledge about Yorktown’s schedule? You keep saying things like “they lost” and missed their chance….didn’t you lose too? and who did you lose to again? You lost to the supposed top seed. Then you don’t deserve to be in either. Let me follow this up with your quality wins:
Gorton, Spring valley (by a point), YONKERS PEEKSKILL AND LINCOLN….ARE YOU SERIOUS. Are you honestly saying this proves you should be in???? Nothing against those teams but they are not exactly tests. Not in this universe or any paralell one. Do some homework and tell me about these wins. Try to do it with out posturing. Use some actual data. Brewster by the way beat one singular team with a decent rank…NYACK. Yorktown beat Nyack Ossining Eastchester and Lakeland…. all of which are higher ranked and more quality teams than on your schedule!!!. Don’t say things like Yorktown had their chances and missed. We won the chances that prove we are better than you. END OF CONVERSATION The only thing proven out of our losses was that we are indeed 3 in our league. Maybe you are confusing your schedule with a different league…BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT WAS CREATED FOR YOU. And Yorktown Ossining Pough Somers Nyack and Eastchester were left in their own separate league to knock each other off.
To be clear I am not suggesting that Saunders could do anything else but play the schedule dealt to them. The same way we did. DO NOT SUGGEST THE SCHEDULES SHOULD BE TREATED THE SAME.
The way you attempt to rip on dm50 is comical. Are you a football expert of sorts? You continue to back up your statements with such quality info. Good luck in your EA sports madden bowl tonight.
The best teams in class a have a blood bath every week with each other…. It’s funny to me the cross river and Yorktown could miss the playoffs , but teams like panas Saunders and port Chester could get in… Good job section 1
Are Tuckahoe and Haldane still predetermined to meet in the D finals? And if so, when?
@Saunders blue its not my fault their is no other mention of Saunders on this blog besides the joke it is that you may make the playoffs. Thanks for the info on the TD being 6 pts. That TD that’s called an acronym by the way. Know that might be tough to grasp for one of the fine products of the yonkers schools system.
You like facts. Fact Saunders scored less points and gave up more points (27-14) vs. Gorton than Ossining (37-8) playing without their best player and Nyack (46-6)... Oh and Yorktown beat both of Ossining and Nyack. But I know, that was week 1 you weren’t ready yet. Just so you know week 1 Ossining and Nyack were ready, Somers and Yorktown were ready… But must have been tough to open with Gorton, way to deal with adversity. You sound as clueless as Jason Garrett after the Dallas joke this past weekend.
Ok so deeper into the season, 10/06, you beat mighty Yonkers 28-0 contests. Then next week Yonkers loses 54-0 to a Hen Hud who lost to a non-playoff Class B school in Croton. A team that can’t beat an average class B team put up just under TWICE as many points as you guys.
Maybe in your eyes I still don’t know anything about football, but what about Josh?? His top 10 for class A… Shocker no Saunders. 2-4 Ossining is though. As are Nyack, Rye, and Yorktown. Only 2 teams currently ‘in’ thanks to Piner are not in the top 10 and they play each other this weekend.. doubt those teams would even be 11&12. With 29 teams in class A would love to see Josh go top 15. (Lakeland, fox lane, Panas, TZ ) they cover 11-14 who gets 15?? PC v. Saunders winner ? Byram? Beacon? Gotta rank ‘em over SV so top 20 is ok…
What do you know about being a playoff team that just squeeks into the top 20… Out of 29. And yeah that works for either you guys or Port Chester becasue someone is squeeking in (nice way of putting it) Although I would love to hear your case about how you guys are better than any of the top 10 teams, or the next 4 I listed. Or for that matter the next few. Where do you rank Saunders. Not standings, not record, ranking … Without some nonsense stats about length of pass plays and first downs that no one can verify without game tape anyhow
@old tiger there are 4 D-schools now. Yonkers decided to add a few more powerhouses. For some reason they don’t all play each other during the season. I guess geography?? Who knows. But I would be shocked if it wasnt haldane vs tuckahoe in the final
So with 4 leagues and a small D league. The playoffs teams would like be
North-Somers, Poughkeepsie…brewster just misses out
Central- JJCR, Yorktown
South- Harrison, Rye… Unless someone wants to tell me Saunders beats hahahahahahah can’t even finish that sentence might piss myself.
West- Nyack, Sleepy/Ossining winner (looks like Sleepy with Davidov injury)
This is just my opinion. Who knows maybe Brewter pulls an upset, or Lakeland … Maybe Saunders wins the D-league, I mean that’s basically what they did this year. D league with a crossover beating at the hands of Brewster
The Piner is flawed and nothing was done by the football comittee to remedy the big issue that is repeating again this year. Last year we heard the same issues about Pearl River and Gorton when they got into the playoffs playing an easier schedule, although with all do respect, it was not as easy as what Saunders is playing this year. The system, if it is to continue as is is, must add a “weight” or “multipler” number to each team. This will ensure that teams with “quality wins” make the playoff. Higher preseason teams have a higher “weight” lower rank teams a lower.
Its nice to see a program like Saunders play competitive football and I don’t think anyone wants to take that away from the kids, but Section 1 wants to send its best teams in the playoffs and at the state finals. Having a watered down version of the Piner isn’t going to allow for that.
I much rather see a scenario where a team had too high of a value in a weighted system because the committee thought they would be better….than a playoff spot awarded to a team for winning the Yonkers league, or in Port Chester’s case being better than that team, and Hen Hud has been smart by staying quiet. Few teams with no quality wins with a shot to get in. So yeah forgot them where does Hen Hud fall ?? Top 15? Top 20? Keep in mind they lost to Croton. To say Croton is half the team they were last year would be nice. Looks like they beat Westlake so they are playoff bound despite getting blown out by Lourdes and Ardsley. Class B must be pretty weak in the middle.
haha,
I understand your points but you don’t have to attack the Yonkers school system. Good kids make it out of there.
Saunders,
I know your school population per se will keep you at A, but if you can pull kids from a place with over 180k folks with the nickname as the 6th borough, no one in Class A or AA for that matter will have a chance to match up if you play your cards right.
yeah i didnt like being called a joke and took it a little too far lol
Do the Playoff Matchups in A go 1A vs 4B plays 2B vs 3A winner, then opposite on the other side of the bracket? Do they reseed each round? or how is it set up?
haha,
Didn’t see that one, my bad. I don’t mind fighting fire with fire then.
I hate Yorktown
