OK, OK…enough about who’s starting where, offensive formations and boundless optimism. It’s time to play football.
Today isn’t quite opening day, but it’s an appetizer. Just about every team in Section 1 will participate in scrimmages today and tonight, and we will be there to chronicle a handful of them.
I will hit two places today: Nyack at 2 and White Plains at 5. Of course, I’ll post update throughout the day on Twitter at Twitter.com/LoHudInsider. I’ll return tonight with a report on what I saw.
My colleague Chris Perez will hit two scrimmages as well: Ossining at 5 and Lakeland at 7. Same deal with Chris. You can find him on Twitter at Twitter.com/LoHud_Perez and he’ll have a report tonight as well.
In all, Chris and I will have a chance to catch 19 Section 1 teams in action today. Of course, we’ll cover more teams on Friday and Saturday, but I’ll clue you in that plan in the morning.
For now, enjoy the return…finally…of football.

Josh, if you’re ever in Central Florida, let me know. You deserve the finest steak for your work ethic and coverage.
josh,
how long before super11?
Let Chris know he has some good food in store for him at the ohs scrimmage, its opening day for the booster club usually as well. they always seemed to have food ready for all the boys, doubt things have changed
Was NOT there…...heard Rye was man handled by Ketcham..beat White Plains by 2 tds…and clobbered Truman by 5 scores.
Just had a beautiful night watching 3 good teams play at Harrison High School. Congratulations to North Rockland, Suffern and Harrison. All 3 teams should have nice season
My Dutchess report from Brewster:
I am basing my opinion on when teams went 1st team vs 1st team, or at least what looked to be 1st vs 1st.
JJEF- The Patriots will have a hard time throwing the ball this year, based on tonight. D looked ok, running game OK. Don’‘t think they will be close to what we had last year. Tons of kids on beach but no superstars like last year. We will miss Hagan and Henderson. Got the feeling in stands there are some issues that need to be worked out.
POK- Lots of speed. No suprise. Spread everyone out and let the qb run around, if he breaks long runs they will score. Only real O they had tonight. If they run in to a team that can control the ball and has a good running game they could struggle.
They can be run on, run at spead and run away from power.
Lourdes – Best team in Brewter tonight. Hate to say it because there are a ton of kids that should be going to JJEF starting for them.
Huge kids on line and fast kids in skill position. Threw the ball all over the place. (best WR in Brewster tonight was #1 from Lourdes, I know the kid. He should be going to JJEF, caught 4-5 TD pass’s ) Lourdes ran at will vs everyone. Never thought it would happen so fast after Walsh left JJEF but they are really good. Someone said their 2 QB’s #11 and #7 were both freshman? hard to believe. They must have completed 80% of their pass’s.
Why are we losing so many kids to Lourdes?
Brewter – QB(Big Kid, great arm) looked really, really good when he had time to throw, not much of a supporting cast.
R D I, thanks for the info. Would have loved to see the Brewster scrimmage but I had work obligations. Looks like the “Walsh Effect” has come to Lourdes ahead of schedule. Next week can’t get here soon enough…
R.D.I,
GREAT JOB,THANKS
ROTTEN,
COME ON NOW GIVE US THE GOODS,TELL US WHAT HAPPENED
No hype,Harrisons 2nd team would beat most A teams in section one.Congrats….
I HAVE YET TO HERE HOW HARRISON DID AGAINST NORTH ROCKLAND
Lourdes the best team. Lourdes the best coach as well.
ramapo this year has a line, but no backs yet to emerge, how can they relpace jocelyn, on the better hand, the WR’s can catch the bal this shaq kid is by the far the best in the section, if ramapos qb can get the ball to his hand, this season will be a problem for other teams facing ramapo
Coach Walsh, no joke!!! He is putting on his big boy pants, like college coaches, and recruiting!!!!!
HELLO RAMAPO,
GLAD TO SEE YOU GOT SOMETHING LEFT IN THE TANK,I’LL BE ROOTING FOR YOU GUYS TO PICK UP WHERE YOU LEFT OFF LAST YEAR,GOOD LUCK
I wasn’t there but heard the 2 Lourdes qb’s combined for something like 19 for 23. However, I know one is a freshman the other a Junior, not both freshman as stated above.
just a fact ?? recruiting who ?? all those kids have been there since freshman year. if you have a good program they will come, no recruiting here .
Im not sure what people expected with rye vs ketcham. With ketcham being such a better team then rye, with bigger/stronger kids, rye was destined to not do well against them. But wit that said, there was flashes of greatness on the D and O against ketcham. Rye came out strong against WP really trying to prove something, and I believe they did. They also manhandeld Truman.in all a great learning experience for the young rye team.
God Squad…. stop!!!
If you coach at a private/catholic school and you dont recruit, you should be fired!!!!
Lourdes rectruits like it’s their jobbb
jay didnt want to show anything, they have bestrunning back their !!!!!
catholic schools must recruit student ahletes in order to keep their enrollments up. They couldn t survive on just kids who come from catholic k-8 schools. Especially up here in dutchess. So when a great coach lands at a catholic school, watch out. I personally know parents who will send their middle school students to Lourdes as long as Coach is there. Great hire by Lourdes not good for other section one b schools. Eventually they will be moved up in class, like Burke boys basketball is this year and Coleman girls hoops as well
@Haywood – - Harrison had the biggest line there with Charlie Credendino in the mix of things. All i am going to say and not to expose anyone but Harrison vs North Rockland in a real game would be a battle and it would come down to a TD or FG. Either team winning. I was real impressed with Suffern. I think i watched 3 playoff teams last night and 3 well coached teams. Im putting the likes into Harrison running different schemes.
A little birdie told me, Cory Calcagni was suspended for the scrimmage and also for the 1st game. I remember this kid punching a Gorton player lastyears bowlgame and being thrown out of the game. If this kid downs not keep his cool and act like his uncles, this kid could blow a game. He needs to chill out!
Also, Lourdes will (finally) be getting its own on-campus field, complete with synthetic turf. Maybe this will push John Jay, Ketcham and F. D. Roosevelt to upgrade their facilities…
ROTTEN TOMATO,
THANKS,AND GOOD LUCK AGAINST WHITE PLAINS.
parent, we did a good job of doing just that.
Thank god Lourdes admin doesnt care about baseball ! If they had a real coach in that sport then you all would be crying about the amount of talent that would be going to the school
Haywood/Rotten Tomato-
i got there about 6:45 and i was very impressed with Harrison. Their size and physicality upfront was very noticeable. all teams played a 2 minute type of series and Harrison played fast and loose, no huddle but struggled. I just wonder whether they will really change who they are when push comes to shove. With that line, I would bang away and wear people down and throw on down and distance situations that are manageable, which they did pretty well. I agree it would be very close as No. Rock is not as big but I think has better overall team speed and I would be surprised if both are not playoff teams. i’m not sure about Suffern but they did some good things against both teams via the pass lines are a question.
ROCK FOOTBALL,
THANKS FOR THE INFO NEXT STOP WHITE PLAINS
ROCK FOOTBALL
ARE YOU GUYS READY FOR THAT PURPLE MACHINE!!..
WE ARE FASTER AND MOR ATHLETIC THEN HARRISON!!
Once Harrison settled in,they really started to move the ball.In my opinion, the “I” will be very difficult for anyone to stop, and should be run as a primary formation. Also,Harrison’s freshman back up qb is one of the best I’ve seen in years,no decades. If there ever was a team who could take it all this season,it would be this one.Way to go Huskies….
dutchess, AMEN
just….beat…rye!!!!
Rye could turn into a semi-dangerous team if the O starts clicking. With the speed they have at the skill, I see them breaking the old mold of the power O of past rye teams. Like I’ve said before what rye lacks in size they truly make up in speed.
