Bill Tribou and the Chappaqua Central School District released a joint statement last week that he has resigned as a teacher and coach in the district after more 25 years. His resignation goes into effect on Aug. 31 and will bring an official end to his tenure as the football coach.
You can read the statement here on NewCastleNow.org. The website also published a letter to the editor from school board member Jeffrey Mester praising Tribou’s efforts as a coach and educator.
The statement does not disclose what led to Tribou’s suspension as a teacher this spring. It said the district and Tribou will make no further comments about what led to the suspension or his resignation.
Tribou has already moved on. He confirmed that he has joined Frank Bucci’s staff as Peekskill as a full-time varsity assistant. I’m going to touch base with them and will have more on the story later.

Ok so what did he do? Someone knows … It cant be too outrageous if he was rehired @ another school.
Just what Peekskill needs to become relevant again. Good hire.
Great hire maybe now peekskill football will have some passion
it could still be pretty outrageous, i mean he went to peekskill, I mean i guess for some sports its not that bad but they have a hard time finding coaches. Im sure football, basketball, baseball, soccer, arent too tough. but im sure they’ll take any help they can get..
take into account the district though. don’t be surprised what can get you ousted in a district with parents as powerful as those in Greeley. Same district that pushed lacrosse hall of famer and now very successful coach at Ridgefield,CT Roy Colsey out of town.
Its not about what you do, or how you do it, or what results you get, its about how those in power feel about you. plain and simple
I’m guessing that he hollered at the wrong rich kid this time. I am sure he has had many complaints over 25 years at Greeley , but this complaint stuck and caused his retirement.
The rich kid this time really had the juice with the administration, is my guess.
He will be happier at Peekskill for certain
This reminds me of the JJ lax thing with those coaches pushed out by some rich kids parents.
Something tells me he was not welcome at Roosevelt…
Tribou never had a good relationship with the former principal of Greeley, the athletic department and his colleagues at Greeley. This firing wasn’t because some rich kid complained. Some rich kid might have complained, but they have been trying to get rid of him for years. I don’t know exactly what happened but you could see this coming from a mile away.
In light of current issues, it seems like the administrators and executives should clarify. Confidentiality is important but, taxpayer dollars are going at work paying for salaries.
If something criminal was done or if it was personal, this should be articulated.
There are athletes all over Peekskill, if anyone can get kids out and motivate them it is Bill.
Best of luck to Blubbering Bill from Ossining.
This mean the annual BBQ over at Bill’s place canceled????
Prediction…. Greeley will be worse than Nyack this year!!!
great hire by peekskill…..just what they needed
The Quakers will rise above all of these distractions. Tribou had years of success, and knows the game, but he didn’t invent the game. Coach Sullivan has a strong background & solid staff by his side. Our community has faith in our boys, and we know that they’re in good hands. They’ll execute the gameplan….Go
Quakers!
Even though I’d heard this for weeks, it’s still pretty stunning to hear… Definitely an upgrade for Peekskill; if anyone can maximize the talent on the Red Devils’ roster, it’s Coach Tribou.
The probem with Tribou leaving Greeley is that many of the boys that go through the program are less likely now to come into contact with a real man now until they go off to college.
Just,
Why the shot at Nyack? Interesting turn of a phrase.
Your purple arrogance is showing again.
Tribou is a good coach and had some great athletes and teams at Greeley. I think he will do really well at Peekskill. Greeley teams were always prepared and disciplined under his leadership.
Why did he leave? He threatened to resign or resigned almost every year. There have been rumors about his demise at Greeley for almost a decade. Some of his traits that make him a good coach also create waves.
I still remember the Section Championship game against Harrison. Greeley is on the goal line with under 5 minutes to go in a tied game. First and goal. Three shots into the line from inside the 2. Harrison stops them cold.
Greeley has one of the best field goal kickers in Class A. Easy decision, right? If Greeley kicks a field goal they win.
But, Tribou calls the same play, fullback dive. Harrison stops them and goes on to win in OT.
BTW, the Greeley administration can not release any details on his suspension. Personnel issues are confidential. Tribou could talk about it, but the administration can not and most likely will not. Could lead to a lawsuit and serious implications for any School Board member that talks about it.
Good Luck Coach Tribou and I will wait for my invite to your summer BBQ.
Actually WingTGuy,
On fourth down the kicker did go out, and made a field goal to put the team up by 3. There was a penalty on the play which in turn made it 4th and inches instead of fourth and long. Instead of taking the points that were on the board, a running play was called in an attempt to gain the first down. The running back was stuffed on the draw play, and the rest is history..
Thanks for the correction GFootball.
Guess I don’t remember it as well as I thought.
Wing T, knew I would/could get you back on here!!! Be honest, doesnt sound like Nyack going to be too good. And without Tribou, Greeley will suffer. Love or hate Tribou, he knows what he is doing!
Good luck this seasoning and hopefully we meet up this year!
***season
Even if Nyack has a struggle this year, your statement is inappropriate at best and a shot at Nyack.
You have stated in the past on this blog that we should encourage and not disparage players and teams. Sure have fun with your rivals and talk smack, but this statement is a shot at a program that is in some transition and may surprise you in the near future.
You should remember that kids come on this blog and read what we ‘adults’ say about them and their teams. If as you say coaches should be about building character and giving young men the opportunity to play at the next level to get an education, then you should be a bit more thoughtful about your posts.
And yes you got me back on the blog. I have always been here.
I will leave it there.
Good luck to you this seasoning also… Sounds like your team will be in the thick of it again.
And for your comment about Nyack not being that good. A lot of young players on this year’s team. Some of them will be talked about on this blog in a year or two. Nyack has a very tough schedule right out of the box. Ossining and Somers in the first three games. We will learn alot about where we are next Friday.
Nyack never does well in scrimmages. Even in our championship runs, scrimmages were tough to watch. Assessment at this point is line is strong and is adjusting to new blocking schemes, backs are quick with depth, but with the possibility of our best running back being out, no stand out.
Defense: line and line backers will be strong against the run. We have some work to do on pass defense. Secondary are all first year starters and will get better. Pass rush needs some adjustments. They started to make them towards the end of the scrimmage yesterday, but with the secondary growing we need to put some pressure on the QB.
Coach is giving them a lot of new looks on both sides of the ball. It will be interesting to see how Saturday goes and then next week.
I will be at games but not sure how much blogging this year. Crazy busy.
Sensitive!!!!!
I don’t disparage players… Never will… Saying a team will struggle is just pointing out the FACTS!!!
I don’t expect you to back off your statement. You never will do that either.
How about: Prediction: Greeley will not be as good as Nyack this year. You were taking a shot and you know it. You just won’t admit it. That is a FACT….
It is a FACT when you voice an opinion? Sorry don’t buy it.
Not sensitive. Just consistent.
It looks like Nyack is moving away from classic Wing T. I may need to change my screen name. Definitely Wing T tendencies, but from the shot gun. Have not seen enough of it to see if zone reads and blocking techniques are part of it.
I will come to the AA sectionals if you get there. We do need to put face to name.
Wing T, you going to take a swing???
Haha…
I am always consistent as well. I understand you have to defend your team, but a lot of teams get questioned on here. All fair as long as you do not take down a player, IMO.
Greeley will be worse than Nyack. If I said it your way, it might come across that I expect Nyack to do well, and I just do not see it in the most competitive Class in the State!
See you soon!
xoxo
