New Rochelle has booked a game for its open date and it should be a good one.
The Huguenots will play at North Bergen High School on Saturday, Oct. 20th at 7 p.m. North Bergen won New Jersey’s North 1, Group 4 state championship in 2011.
When reached by phone this afternoon, New Rochelle coach Lou DiRienzo said assistant Keith Fagan found the available game with the help of Rob Violante, a former Dobbs Ferry and Harrison assistant coach who is now the varsity head coach at Bergenfield High School in North Jersey.
Rob’s brother Brian Violante is an assistant coach for the Huguenots.

Prince, I think if north Bergen has the coaches they say, with the players.. New ro can’t be one dimensional..though if they were only to throw ball, maybe they can win, edney that good, but not just on the ground.. Defensively I think new ro needs to tone down the aggressiveness. They got plenty of speed but when you are aggressive u get burnt by screens and short passes. Happened JJEF game. But tough for a defense to change their spots.
I like your point about new ro having lack of depth, which puts pressure on the offense to score without long ineffective drives.. Which will hyrt them on D when you are facing an open offense..
I SAID IT LAST JULY!!.. THAT WAS ANOTHER REASON WHY I SAID THEY NEEDED TO RUN SPREAD SCORE FAST AND LET THE DEFENSE PLAY TOUGH!!....
Prince, last year new ro seemed to have some depth on the line…so different scenario.. kind of.. Not sure new ro had depth at skill positions last year.
I’m mildly amused by all the banter on here but let’s get something straight. NJ is on another level when it comes to high school football. NJ is a top 10 to 15 state in the country for high school football. NY, not so much.
St. Anthony’s has no chance against Bergen Catholic, which is one of the best teams in the country. That will be a rout.
Now North Bergen is anybody’s guess but my sense is they beat New Rochelle as well because this is apples and oranges. The average NJ high school football game is light years ahead of the average NY game and I am from NY. There are easily 20 teams in NJ that could not just beat St. Anthony’s in any given year but beat them badly. Mike Quick likes to put alot of NY teams in his top 20 for politically correct reasons but NY is terrible and shouldn’t have any teams in the top 20 other than St. Anthony’s on a consistent basis. NYC and LI football particularly (again except for St. Anthony’s) is downright putrid.

I WILL AGREE THAT SAINT ANTS WILL NOT BEAT BERGEN!!... BUT IF IT’S CLOSE BY THE MIDDLE OF THE 4TH QTR. IMO THAT JUST MEANS THAT SAINT ANTS 100 MEN IS TAKING ITS TOLD ON THEM!!.. I WILL GIVE SAINT ANTS A 55% CHANCE OF WINNING!..

Xaverian coach not surprised by North Bergen sanctions after recruitment of former player

Joe DeSiena didn’t need an investigation to tell him North Bergen football coach Vincent Ascolese had done something wrong.
“For a coach to approach a kid and try to convince him to remove himself from his high school and attend a different school, he’s already unethical,” the Xaverian head coach said. “So no, it doesn’t surprise me.”
The Star Ledger reported Friday that Ascolese, who coached at North Bergen for 39 years, recruited two key players as part of its 2011 NJSIAA North Jersey Section 1, Group IV state championship run during his final season. The program will be put on two-year probation by the state governing body. One of those players was former Xaverian receiver/defensive back Denzell Leitch. It was reported that he and Eric McMullen were put up in low-rent apartments by Ascolese next to the coach’s home.
DENIS GOSTEV
Xaverian head coach Joe DeSiena believes former North Bergen coach Vincent Ascolese was unethical just for approaching former Clipper Denzell Leitch to leave.
“Forget football,” DeSiena said. “You are taking him away from the teachers who know him. You take him away from his guidance counselors. You are changing his curriculum, changing his environment. That’s a major change for a kid to go through, especially if you are talking about a kid like Denzell who was learning disabled.”
It was reported that in the locker room following a thrilling, last second, 14-13 win over Montclair for his eighth state title, Ascolese approached Leitch’s father Ingram about back-rent he owed. A few days later Leitch was told he had to leave. Leitch was reportedly living alone and not with his father like Ascolese told the school. Rent was as low as $300 a month.
“That’s why he chose a more convenient route to stay in Jersey,” DeSiena said.
DeSiena remembers the summer two years ago when Leitch, who played as a sophomore on the varsity, unexpectedly did not return. He went through all the offseason and spring workouts and then did not show up for training camp. The coach said he was told that he went to some combine, ran a really good time and Ascolese approached Leitch, a New Jersey native, and offered him room and board. He had been traveling on the PATH train to Xaverian every day.
Leith was supposed to be a major part of the Clippers success and a group of upper classman that included Tushaun Plummer, Laray Smith, Zach Kearney, Sean Binckes and Rocky Iannacone. Xaverian went 7-3 last season and reached the CHSFL Class AA semifinals.
“Next thing I know, he was gone,” DeSiena said. “I didn’t even get a phone call. I’m thinking more along the lines of how do I get in touch with this kid so I can rip into him for missing the first practice.”
According to Rivals.com, the 5-foot- 7, 150-pound Leitch runs the 40-yard dash in 4.46 seconds and has a 31-inch vertical leap. He has interest from Penn State, UConn, Rutgers, Syracuse and Buffalo. DeSiena feels it shouldn’t matter what program a kid is at, moving after two seasons can often do more harm than good.
“It’s a very tough situation for a kid to succeed and make it through there without hitting speed bumps and it’s unethical,” DeSiena said. “Maybe I am not as good a coach as him, but I would never do anything like that if kid is settled in at a school. I want to see him succeed.”

JUST A FACT,
NICE PICK IN THE DERBY. MONEY?
Haywood, a little taste…
If I truly thought that horse was winnning, I would have made $1k. Just liked the name, but don’t tell no one.. Everyone will think I am a handicapper,
Did you take my advice?
Iona Power, good post. My thoughts are this:
“For a coach to approach a kid and try to convince him to remove himself from his high school and attend a different school, he’s already unethical,” the Xaverian head coach said. “So no, it doesn’t surprise me.”
That is just spilt milk. We all know recruiting happening everywhere. Even New Ro – please no one come on here and lie. So the point, don’t cry because you lose a player. Poor showing of being a man in that situation.
But this:
“It was reported that in the locker room following a thrilling, last second, 14-13 win over Montclair for his eighth state title, Ascolese approached Leitch’s father Ingram about back-rent he owed. A few days later Leitch was told he had to leave. Leitch was reportedly living alone and not with his father like Ascolese told the school. Rent was as low as $300 a month.”
You should never be allowed to coach again should this happen. This is not a man but a luzzer!!!!
Just
I think New Rochelle should try and find a team to play that does not have sanction issues- I believe they are not eligible for the Group 4 Public North playoffs.
Also $300 bucks a month for an apartment- Did the apartment have plumbing?? The West End of New Rochelle must be like Beverly Hills compared to where that kid must have been staying!!
JUST A FACT,
I DID NOT LISTEN,I STUCK WITH UNION RAGS,HOLD ON…..............THE HORSE JUST CROSSED THE FINISH LINE,LLLLLLOOOOOLLLLL
“Also $300 bucks a month for an apartment- Did the apartment have plumbing?? The West End of New Rochelle must be like Beverly Hills compared to where that kid must have been staying!!”
Ionapower, lol!!! My thought was it was a basement apartment in a decent neighborhood and they were just getting super discount. My problem there were no issues of back rent when the season is being played, but right after season, “where’s my money”????
Teenagers learn and see a lot of things fast, but our educators & coaches need to be held to a hire standard. That is just some cruel business world BS being brought into HS football setting. Not to mention you are kicking a kid out of his apartment so where is he suppose to stay? Does that mean he has to drop out or go back to old skool now that he has new friends, and teachers he is familiar with? Cold man… COLD!!!!
Haywood, lol!
I thought maybe the jockey, borel would win again but no such luck. We can talk again in two + weeks… Preakness !!
Ps. U see my boxing prediction too?????

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU ABOUT THE COACH!!... WHAT I THINK IS WRONG THAT XAVERIAN COACH COMPLAINS AS IF XAVERIAN HAS NEVER RECRUITED PLAYERS!!.. THE REAL QUESTION TO XAVERIAN COACHES WHAT WOULD MAKE A 2 YR STARTER WANT TO LEAVE YOUR PROGRAM.. NORTH BERGEN WAS NOT THE ONLY SCHOOL HE WAS CHECKING OUT ALOT OF COACHES WILL TALK ABOUT THE PLAYERS PARENTS, THE PLAYER DISABILITY, THE PLAYERS CONDUCT BUT NEVER TALK ABOUT WHAT THEY HAVE DONE WRONG TO THE PLAYER AND OR HIS PARENT..THE COACH NEVER SAY I MADE A MISTAKE OR I BLUE IT!!... NO THEY LOOK TO POINT THE FINGAH AT SOMEONE ELSE… THERE WAS ANOTHER PLAYER THAT LEFT XAVERIAN RB/WR THAT WAS VERY GOOD I THINK HE WENT TO THOMAS JEFFERSON OR PARAMUS IN NJ NOT SURE.. BUT ONE THING WAS FOR SURE LEITCH WAS NOT HAPPY WITH XAVERIAN OR HE WOULD HAVE STAYED!!.. #FACT TO ME BOTH COACHES WHERE EQUALLY WRONG!!..
JUST
CAN YOU BELIEVE
THAT I CN’T SAY
FINGAH
MESH UP
BLUE IT
WHEN I HAVE SEEN ALOT OF OTHER BLOGG AND USE THEM WORDS!!..JOSH IS RED FLAGGING IP ADDRESSES
”. THE REAL QUESTION TO XAVERIAN COACHES WHAT WOULD MAKE A 2 YR STARTER WANT TO LEAVE YOUR PROGRAM”
Prince, exactly!!! Guys acting very innocent. That stuff I cannot stand. Glad once again, we see…
Prince, don’t know why anyone would silence you.. You should be getting paid for your efforts and contributions!
Of course don’t want to mess with your welfare checks though!!!!!
Prince
Speedy Thomas left after his sophomore year to go to Jefferson- He is a WR with blazing fast speed- The only thing with that move is that Xaverian has done a masterful job of getting kids full rides on the Division 1 level. The kid froma few years ago Oday Aboushi who went to Virginia is now a possible 1st rounder next year if he come out as a Junior.
JUST
THESE GUYS ARE FUNNY!!.. THEN GOES PUBLIC AND SAY THE PLAYER HAS A LEARNING DISABILITY AND THATS THE REASON WHY HE SHOULDN’T GO TO ANOTHER SCHOOL!!.... WHEN YOUR PLAYER LEAVES YOUR PROGRAM!!.. MORE THEN LIKELY YOU DID WRONG!!.. I’M STILL TRYING TO UNDERSTAND HIS “REAL POINT”!!.. IT WAS VERY TASTELESS!!...
WE SEE THE BIG PICTURE!!.... THEY ONLY SEE THERE SELF IN THE PICTURE!!!
IONA
I TOTALLY AGREE AND I HAVE WENT ON RECORD AND SAID THAT THEY GET KIDS INTO D1 SCHOOLS!!.. THERE COACHING I’M NOT A FAN OF!!
IONA
XAVERIAN HAS HAD SOME VERY BIG KIDS THE PAST 5 YRS!!.....
Prince/Haywood,
I know it is a little late but any thoughts in us losing one of the most intense football players of our time in junior SAY OW(seau)!
A great player. Too early. More important Too unfortunate.
Heavy heart when I heard the news.
Prince
Xaverian is the only CHSFL School in Brooklyn that plays in the AAA. hey have a massive talent pool to pick from- Very good school with a very good sports program- Great Great baseball program and they also have a good Basketball program with a respected coach-
From a pure talent and speed standpoint they should have more talent than Iona and most of the CHSFL AAA
JUST
I CN’T BELIEVE IT!!.. HE WAS GREAT ATHLETE I READ IN HIGH SCHOOL HE WAS OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR IN HIS LEAGUE!!!.. AND HE PLAYED TIGHT END!!. THATS TALENT!!.. I HATE THESE STORIES IT MAKE YOU RE-THINK THIS GLADIATOR OF A GAME!!..
IONA
I AGREE THEY HAVE NO COMP!!.. AND THEY ALSO OFFER SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAM SO IT ALLOWS THEM TO GET EVERY ACADEMIC LEVEL OF PLAYER….
JUST A FACT,
GREAT MAN,BETTER ATHLETE,AWSOME LEADER,HOW THE DEMONS GOT THE BETTER OF HIM IS STILL TO BE DETERMINED,SMH

The one thing I dislike is now everyone is going to say football too dangerous adding more fuel to mothers who hold their child back from the greatest game ever created..
But i will admit his legacy shows that 20 yrs at the pro level and probably another 10 to get there of bashing other guys in the helmet, will eventually catch up to you…
My only other problem here the researchers will review his brain and of course they will find scars and damage… And right away they will conclude it was football that did him in.
But they never look at other things that get put into the body ( and I am not just saying roids) that leads to severe depression. I am sure those shots to the head don’t help but if alcohol is a depressant what else attributes to depression? Not to mention possible lady troubles. Almost a perfect storm to one of the greatest to play the position.
This Wednesday, 5/16/2012 from 6pm-10pm at Dunwoodie Golf Course in Yonkers, NY the Yonkers Pediatric Hospital is hosting a fundraising event. For $25 you get all you can drink and eat! There will be raffles, prizes, and you get to meet Baltimore Ravens All-Pro RB and New Rochelle alum Ray Rice, as well as Detroit Lions LB and Roosevelt alum Doug Hogue. All proceeds go straight to the hospital so please come out to help the cause and spread the word!
Great to know New-Ro the “great” manned up and played a team from jersey after there best player in history ( Vin Ascolese going to Arkansas) of the program is graduating. North Bergen is losing their running back and VIn Ascolese (d1 ball players) !! Now new Ro is going to say they are the best once they beat north Bergen even though north Bergen didn’t stand a chance verse st peters prep last year with these players. Imagine what don bosco or Bergen catholic would do to them.. Without these players!!! This is a joke, if new Ro is the best. Play the best. (Bergen Catholic/ Don Bosco) I bet you new Ro couldn’t stand a chance verse st peters from jersey.
Jersey boy, take ur beating like a man!!!
I’m gone to inform my little brother, that he should also visit this blog on regular basis to get updated from most up-to-date reports.
