Below is a tremendous resource for local basketball fans. It’s the complete list of 1,000-point scorers in Rockland County history.
The list was no doubt sparked by this season’s assault on the local record books. Three of the county’s top 10 scorers of all-time will graduate in 2012, with Tyler Sayre and Pat Peterson breaking program scoring records and Mike McCahey coming awfully close. You’ll see just how far all three climbed since netting their 1,000th point.
This finished product has seen a few revisions, and it has been compiled with the help of several Rockland sports historians: Tom Collins, our own John Humenn, Jamie Kempton, Bill Madden, Jim McLaughlin, John Mercurio, Dan White, Dick Yerg and Ray Zebro. Their information was pieced together by the always invaluable Tom Doherty. Thanks to each and every one of them.
As Doherty pointed out throughout his revisions, think of the various circumstances that helped land a player on this list: length of seasons, 3-point line and shot clock, not to mention playing time. Some benefitted from playing big minutes as freshmen. Others did the bulk of their scoring as upperclassmen, but climbed the list quickly.
Anyway, I wanted to pass it along. Enjoy!

GREAT INFO, NICE LIST OF GREAT ATHLETES WITH HISTORIC ROOTS IN ROCKLAND.
Great to see another TZ guy on there, thinking before Ryan Sheridan there was only 1 TZ guy and now there’s 3. Josh any recruiting commitments from Pat and Billy? Heard McLaughlin was going to Drew University, is that true? Also on a side note, I think McManus played as an 8th grader, not sure, but I have heard before he did. Great player nonetheless, set a mark that won’t be touched for a very long time.
McCahey, Sayer, and Peterson have all played only 18 game seasons since sophomore year as opposed to the 20 game seasons played before. Also McCahey missed a game with the flu this year if he had not gotten sick he would have broken the school record. All three great players with bright futures
Wood…#16 is my brother!
HRs,
Wow,what # was he when he graduated
HRs,
Did he make all-county,all-state?
How is the baseball comming?
Wood he made everything. He was also MSG player of the week when the city used to ahve that back in the day. 6 ft 4 guard. He also had 63(when he scored his 100th without a 3pt fg) in a game and still holds the county record. Averaged closed to 30 a game and only played 3 qtrs in many. Lastly he was skipped at an early age so he graduated at 17. Really could have used that extra year. He wasn’t mature physically and that was something Konchowski was concerned with. Give him that year, he would have blown away an standing record. He did work against teams like POK back in the day. States won’t remember because he was like 1 yr old:)
Played a lot of summer ball with Doc Micelli and Madison Square and practiced a lot with my pops and Gompers. He was legit…and not because he was my bro. Was also a baseball stud, so he chose that path at Columbia. Arm injuries ruined his chances, but no regrets from his end.
Baseball is going great. Doing a lot over in Armonk, but also alot with my little guy.
GREAT TO KNOW AND HEAR,GOOD LUCK WITH THE LITTLE GUY
Too bad MV doesn’t play baseball at PR. We can enjoy and watch! PR has a very good pitcher this year. Lefty going to Albany to play.
Dutchmen,
Brendan McManus did not play on Varsity as an 8th Grader! He was a four-year player for PRHS!
HRs,
Everything that you wrote about your brother is true! Great player for the Pirates!
Roc Ball
They also had the benefit of the three point line and a shot clock that players from earlier years did not have.
alot of spring valley kids on that list
None too recent. What happened to SV hoops?
