According to an e-mail sent to Section 1’s athletic directors this morning by Jennifer Simmons, the football committee has found some issues in the Class A schedules. (UPDATE, 7:16 p.m.) The schedules were re-worked today. They are expected to be finalized and re-released to the schools tomorrow.
(Hopefully, I will have more on the corrections as well as the new schedule then.)
One irregularity pointed out by a reader Wednesday was Nyack’s schedule. Nyack, the No. 7 team in its league, had a league schedule of five higher-ranked teams and one lower-ranked team. Contrast that with Sleepy Hollow, the No. 7 in Class A’s other league. Sleepy had a schedule with three higher-ranked teams and three lower-ranked teams, thus giving it a easier strength of schedule.
There are other irregularities that need correcting, but this is one that stood out to me. The truth is that creating a schedule in Class AA and A was more difficult this season. Both classes had an uneven number of teams (15 and 29, respectively), meaning one has to play a game outside its class each week. Some of the solutions were easy and produced interesting matchups — White Plains-Harrison, Mount Vernon-Pelham, Tappan Zee-Suffern, Poughkeepsie-Arlington — but it definitely complicates the process.

Good Morning Ted,
“MOTOR CITY MADNESS” 1 of my all time favorites! How did your interview with the secret service go? As well…... GREAT speech at the NRA convention!
CAT SCRATCH FEVER!!!!! FOREVER!!!!!
jim - -one of my curiousitys was in the trenches. Will Rye have another huge talented line again? Thats where they win most of their games and how do you think Rye will do. I already put down a L for my HarrisonRye schedule hahaha.I wonder what Somers schedule will be like now. From what I heard Yorktown is very good this year. Its a rivalry game and if these Somers kids don’t understand the rivalry they will lose.
JSB,
Varian (section wrestling champ at 285 lbs) isn’t big? Try 6.3 285 lb.. ish. Could be Yorktown and Nyack at the top.Unless that qb comes back to Ossining.
Dinner@ Ossining Pizza might get him back, plus desert
Where is new schedule how hard can it be to revise it,
Hey RIVERINDIAN come watch us play Shen tonight I think ChiefWildEagle may come to game.7pm
So from what ive been reading it seems like you guys think Nyack is gonna be sooo good so i ask you why if their so good do they need to revise their schedule to make it easier because aparently they play too many higher seeds.
When will the schedule come out
People are stating that the A schedule is getting redone because Nyack is playing too many high seeds. Does that mean Mahopac’s schedule will get redone as well. They play the same ranked teams as Nyack. However, there is no mention of AA getting redone. Josh can you check this out? They are both in 15 team leagues with Pac and Nyack both being 7 seeds with identically ranked opponents. Should be redone for both no?!?
PAC… I didn’t say the schedule was being re-done for Nyack. It was just something I had been noticed. I can’t tell you what was the reason.
Moneyball – can you back up your claim that somers lost their 3 BIGGEST and BEST lineman? ie. Stats?(available via MaxPreps, though I’m not sure how acurate they are.) or a first-hand account from a game you personally attended? It sounds to me like you are a John Jay fan simply trying to talk your team up by falsely critiquing the competition, John Jay went on to the section finals and were an impressive team. Hats off to them for their success last season, only losing two games is quite the accomplishment. Now back to your claims of Somers losing their top performers; Hanley was an exceptional player(6’5” 285lbs avg 5.4 tackles per game, 27 total.), who was most likely one of opposing teams biggest worries in the trenches, but sat out for half the season due to a knee injury. Junior #54 Falasca (5’11” 224lbs avg 7.0 tackles per game, 56 total.) was moved from DE to NG to fill the void on the defensive line (Great move IMO, Falasca saw playing time prior to the move at DE but seemed too slow to be responsible for maintaining outside leverage against shiftier/better QBs and RBs. He just looked better and more natural playing from a three point stance in the middle than he did when playing on the outside.) and Senior #76 Anthony Campanelli took Hanleys spot on the offensive line. #71 Chris Groton (6’ 235lbs avg 6.8 tackles per game. 61 total.) and #79 Nick Aquilino (6’2 , 2??lbs avg 4.4 tackles per game, 40 total, there was no weight listed on the MaxPreps roster.) were both large contributors on both sides of the ball, but they were not Somers’ only weapons on the line. Junior Robert Pontbriand #56 (6’5” 260lbs) rotated on offense every series with #71 Groton, and Junior #57 Daniel Cambell (6’5” 220lbs) had equal playing time at the offensive guard position with #79 Aquilino. (Both players who you said were their best linemen, yet they only played half the game offensively. #71 Groton was an All-Section pick and the largest spot to fill, but he is not irreplaceable.) Somers other starting Guard last season, Senior #53 Vincenzo Recine (5’11” 210) also was part of an every series rotation with Junior #55 Dylan Owen. (6’4” 210lbs) Taking the place of last years Center, #50 Michael Pierz (5’11” 210lbs) will most likely be #66 Sean Jennings (6’4” 245lbs) and his brother #68 Steven Jennings (6’4” 270lbs) is an obvious pick to start at OT opposite #56 Pontbriand. I don’t believe Falasca saw time on the offensive side of the ball last season but he is listed as another Tackle on the roster. Somers also returns their starting TE/DE with #80 Peter Mueller (6’5” 220lbs, Mueller was also All-League if I’m not mistaken) I hope this answers your question as to who will be stepping in on Somers line. Somers utilized it’s depth last year and that left them with many experienced players for the upcoming season. Silva was Somers lead rusher last season with 734 yds
well if Nyack plays different teams or not as many highly ranked teams, and my Pac do not, I will be concerned. Do you think I have a point?
And an avg of 6.86 yards per carry. Bicknese (5’11” 180lbs, 39 total tackles) rushed for 641 yards, though with a higher average than Silva, 7.45, on 21 less carries. (Bicknese also had more tackles, 39 over Silvas 16). Lombardo (5’11” 185lbs avg 9 tackles per game, 81 total.) was third on the team in rushing with 586 total for the season and an average just shy of Silva with 6.81. Lombardo also had 21 less carries than Silva. We can agree on the quality of All-Sevtion pick Bicknese, but to say Lombardo is too skinny to play FB and gets knocked around at LB is a gross exaggeration. He may not be a D1 recruit but he is most certainly not undersized to play these positions at the varsity level. Unless you can support your accusations and opinions with FACTS you shouldn’t be writing negative posts about highschool athletes. BTW all heights, weights, and stats were found via MaxPreps.
Somers,
You confirmed what I said in your post. #75, #71, and #79 were your best lineman, and they are gone. Pontbriand is not impressive. The Jennings brothers would have started before their seniors years with that size if they were actually good. Mueller is a solid player, Bicknese is the best player on the team, and Joe Lombardo still scares nobody. He needs to hit the gym this offseason, and then I could see him having a good year.
Also a cool fact, Somers held POK to just 280 yards of offense (177 rushing and 103 receiving.) while in the Section Final against John Jay POK had 437 yards of offense (353 rushing and 84 receiving) Somers was without Hanley for the POK game as well… Also, all weights and heights were posted prior to last season, so it’s safe to assume the vast majority of Tuskers have put on size training in the off season.. Sorry for the rant fellow bloggers, I had to reply to Moneyball.. If you have any other claims or questions, Moneyball, I’d be happy to answer them to the best of my ability. Just please, back up your statements and argumentive points with statistics or real facts! Didn’t your mother ever teach you if you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t say anything at all?!? LOL
Moneyball,
if you think lombardo is skinny and isn’t in the gym every day then you obviously have no idea what you are talking about
New Ro beat st ant? Lol no chance! Iona would beat new Ro by 2 TDS
I’m sure Lombardo is in the gym everyday, he needs to bulk up, and hes from a hard working family of athletes. Somers, how about you guys wins something real before touting your team on this blog, you choke whenever your faced with a real challenge. The great Tony Dematteo has had all the talent and size in the world at Somers the past few years, and come up empty handed. Yet the lowly Art Troilo can win a section championship with a line that averaged 5’10 190 pounds. This year, you had plenty of size and talent, and lost to BREWSTER. I don’t think next year will be much different. If your trying to suggest Somers was on the same level as John Jay this year, give me a break. John Jay whooped you up and down the field, they were the far superior team.
Anything on the re worked schedules?
Moneyball the reason Somers lost to Brewster because a bunch of Somers players came hungover to the game. Some of them were starters
NotTedNugent,
Is that a fact? If so, The Somers football program should be ashamed on themselves. Thats just awful.
Somers,
Somers seems to always have big kids but they always have problems with spped teams. Speed kills
It is true what Not Ted Nugent said. I know the names but I’m not going to reveal the names. This got Tony Dematteo really upset and was contemplating retiring.
after he found out. He found out after the last game of the year that his players came hungover to the Brewster game.
What was dematteo’s reaction?
He was really mad at his players and threatened to retire.
I would be mad to, thats disgraceful. Ive heard of such incidents happening before a HS baseball or lacrosse game from very undedicated players, but for that to happen in HS football is unreal to me. Especially from a team that claims they want to win so badly. Bottom line, football is the one sport that if your hungover in, your not winning, end of story.
I agree with you moneyball. These Somers kids are spoil brats that disgrace past Somers teams.
We’re venturing down an ugly path. Let’s stick to talk on schedules, the top games of each week, and focus on players abilities on the football field. No need to gossip like children. This is a FOOTBALL blog, let’s stay on topic here.
I agree
Schedules are done. I am meeting with my AD tomorrow morning to go over changes. I imagine Josh will have them up tomorrow too. As of right now, I know as much as you all do.
Moneyball: this is the same Somers that allowed CONVICTED FELONS to play football, ankle monitoring bracelets were a new uniform accessory that year. What a disgrace.
Tony was note the coach then. The gutless wonder who played those convicts was none other than Skippy “The Slug” Violante!!!
Guess you Tusker fans thought we all forgot about that disgrace?
chiefy why so angry, we all have made mistakes, Im sure you snuck in Georges a few times after games when you were under age back in the day. You need to be more like my friend river indian, positve and not so mean.
im going to agree with chiefwildeagle, gotta stay out of trouble. if you a convicted felony in high school, you have more important things to worry about that football
Oh little pelham,, College is going to be an eye opening expirence for you LOL Remember,, every beer you have before your 21 you will be breaking the law. LOL
