I had posted Mr. Basketball, coach of the year and tri-county award winners last month. Now, here’s a look at all the players, coaches and officials who were honored by the Westchester County Basketball Coaches Association this season.
For the uninitiated, the hierarchy goes like this: Mr. Basketball, tri-county, all-section and all-conference.
The awards were selected prior to the postseason. Isaiah Cousins gave Mount Vernon it’s seventh straight Section 1 Mr. Basketball and was subsequently named all-tournament of the section, state and Federation tournaments as he led the Knights to their second straight state championship. George Gaine guided Tappan Zee to its second Section 1 Class A title in three years and into the first state final in program history.

TO THOSE THAT THOUGHT YOU SHOULD HAVE MADE IT AND DIDN’T,START NOW TO MAKE YOURSELF A BETTER PLAYER NEXT SEASON.
TO ALL THAT MADE IT CONGRATS AND KEEP PLAYING
Well said Haywood. You make the team from working hard in the summer, not during tryouts in the fall.
Josh- Where is Letizia from TZ?? He had a great year. A four year starting point guard, guiding his team to the state finals. He deserves it more than a couple of the other kids, who he shut down. It would have been alright to put 4 from TZ.
wood- I was able to watch the MV/Boys game last night on MSG. MV really got out of character against them. I had mentioned my reasoning as to why Boys was going to beat St. Rays in the other thread. Well MV fell into the same trap! At any rate, you and your boys will be right there again.(so will B&G ) so lets hope for a rematch!
HRs,
I really think they should play at least a scheduled game during the regular season once a year.
That is a great point. I know I would want to see it. Potluck they may meet in a tourney, but didn’t happen this year. Boys has now gained the recognition that Lincoln has. 3 city championships and a Fed. Tiny Morton is going to be recruiting in Europe soon!!!
Wood are there any specific tourneys you go see during AAU time?
HRs,
Not really,I just float around and hit the big match ups,in the summer I love baseball.
What spots do you hit?
That’s my man. A baseball guy. Obviously that is what I played hence the “HRs”. Caught and now teach it for 30+ years. Catching is a lost art…trust me when I say it. Kids don;t want to play it and the ones that do tend to be lost in terms of basic fundamentals. That is why I preach it and do a lot with 8-13 year olds.
I haven’t been too good with the summer stuff as baseball takes over(and my little guys), but I want to catch some good match ups this year. That is why I was asking.
HRs,
I am happy that Isaiah cousins choose Oklahoma, with west VIRGINA joining the big 12 I see jabarie vs Isaiah, written all over it.
Baseball : my first love,at mount Vernon we beat Kingston,2 out of 3 to win the section championship in 1981
I know this is very early but who are the super 7 favorites for next year? got Lynch, James, Doughty as safe bets id say. then maybe Golden, Letizia, Twymann, Thom, Harrison Brown, Daly and Joe Clarke in no particular order as the next tier? What year is Randazzo from Kennedy?
Eric Paschall only soph to make all section. super 7 favorite. you think ? @ A BAll
Sullivan from Albertus
Degnan from Pearl River
Think letizia doesn’t get the recognition he deserves. Could be a MVP for TZ every year. His intensity on the court and ability to shut down the top player doesn’t show up on stats. Add the fact that he has taken more charges than anyone every year for the last four years (personal opinion) is not being noticed.
