We had a good story in the paper this week about the men on the bench at Rye Country Day, Vin Minotti Jr. and Richard Alin. They have formed an unlikely team that has now coached together at three schools. This year, they led the Wildcats to their second NYAISAA Class C state title in the last three years.
Minotti Jr. has spent the last decade coaching Darien (Conn.), Mamaroneck and Rye Country Day. Back during his stint at Darien, Minotti Jr., a Fox Lane grad, reached out to Alin, the former Westlake varsity coach, at the suggestion of Minotti’s dad, a former high school coach who shared Giants season tickets with Alin. The twisted network of contacts produced a partnership that continues to work to this day.
The 40-year-old Minotti Jr. told my colleague Chris Perez that Alin’s experience is invaluable.
“I can’t imagine navigating through the trials of coaching in this day and age without Richie,” Minotti said.
You can read the rest of Chris’ story by clicking here. I suggest you check it out.
