Three Section 1 teams are headed to Glens Falls this weekend for the state final four. Chances are pretty good that one or more will return as state champions. But which ones?
That’s the question I pose to start your Tuesday morning. The teams in question, of course, are: Mount Vernon (Class AA), Tappan Zee (Class A) and Tuckahoe (Class C). Mount Vernon has won a record nine state championships (1978-79, 1981, 1991, 2000, 2004, 2006-07, 2011). Tuckahoe has won one (1981). And Tappan Zee will vie for its first ever in its first appearance in the state final four.

Mt Vernon better beware of the officiating. I wrote awhile ago about how CBA gets the benefit of every call. There is a big controversy in the mid state area over this. Troy and Proctor can join the long list of teams who have been the victim of the CBA advantage. I cannot tell you why it happens, but it is very real. The officials may call the game tight which can get the Mt Vernon players into foul trouble. They can also let CBA dictate the way the game is played by not allowing MV to be aggressive. If Mt Vernon is not allowed to play their game and it turns into a jump shooting affair against a zone, with MV players in foul trouble, CBA may have a chance. If the officials are fair, MV wins by 20+. Maybe MV should make a call to the NYSPHSAA and put them on notice.
Tuckahoe has the best chance

I know Shen and Troy got screwed with the calls, but everyone in section 2 expects that. I did not here about the proctor game, why would officials from a different region favor CBA? I also believe CBA got the benefit of some whistles when they played Newburgh, when they were going for back to back states.
Tappan Zee has a brutal road. If they pull the shocker and beat JD, they would have to turn around and beat a very good guard oriented harborfields team. If Tappan Zee wins it they would be the most impressive champion.

Its not just just the calls officials call on CBA opponents but CBA doesn’t get calls made on them. Proctor found that out. Its a concern MV fans. Trust me

Troy should have been the section 2 champion. They were he better team and had it taken from them by a poor call followed by a technical. I agree there has been some wierdness surroundng CBA, although the Newburgh game a couple of years ago was a straight up beating the refs had little to do with.

you have to play defense the right way. you can play aggressive without hand – checking. that is why you are taught to play defense with your feet. very simple – don’t foul! when you hand check and make to much contact defensively you have an advantage. so if it is a foul, it should be called!

Officials should call perceived fouls equally, and consistently.
Just be fair, That all a program can ask.
West 1-Who have those schools you mentioned above beaten that is any good??This years MV team is a machine and these upstate boys are gonna get trampled.
Oh and MV doesn’t need to make any phone calls to put peoplr on notice.Once the Knights arrive its on.Cimmino and company are well equipped.
