If you missed it – and you shouldn’t because you should be on Twitter – two bits of news this afternoon/evening:
1. Mount Vernon senior Isaiah Cousins was offered by UConn. The senior guard added to his haul of offers today when he was offered a scholarship by UConn. The 6-foot-4 Cousins received offers from Oklahoma, Xavier and South Carolina after Sunday’s championship game.
2. Biondi’s appeal was denied by Section 1. Administrators from the school had a hearing via conference call with Section 1 at 8:30 this monring, according to athletic director Joe Ruback. He met with the team today but did not hold practice. He finally learned the team’s fate this evening, but it was the ruling the school expected. As a result, Greenburgh Academy is the Section 1 Class D champion and will meet Livingston Manor at 3 tomorrow afternoon in the regional semifinals.
Now, there are six local boys basketball teams still in action: Mount Vernon (Class AA); Iona Prep (CHSAA Class A); Tappan Zee (Class A); Albertus Magnus (Class B); Tuckahoe (Class C);

Josh.. as you can see some of the old timers and very loyal bloggers are quite upset with Section 1’s decision to strip the Biondi kids of the title they so richly deserve. I think this is an act of cowardness by who ever filed the protest. What could make this worse is to think that the weasle who did not protest this before the game but waited for the outcome, might remain anonymous.. if it’s in your power to expose this person then please do it.
thanks
The section 1 clan in a nut shell:
Coo-coo for.coa-coa PUFFS
Rather than giving props to IsiahCousins who I have been watching for 4 years and backing him all year as the best player in the county I instead had to vent about the Biondi situation.
Isiah, good for you and you deserve all of it. Thank god college scouts can recognize potential without looking at the box scores. Great player and you will do well at the next level..
CBA beat Troy 62-57 in OT so they win the sect 2 title. CBA, Sect 2, plays sec 3 winner Utica Proctor this weekend. The winner of that game plays the winner of Friday’s game at Pace in the semi finals in Glens Falls.
WESTCHESTER 1,
THANKS FOR THE INFO.
Josh,
Will you be doing live chats for the games?
section 2 fans will tell you CBA is the Duke of that section. That get every call. They beat Shen in the quarters when a CBA player shot at 3 at the end and the the Shen player was called for a foul boxing him out, after the shot. They were also fortunate, Troy lost their best player, a 6’9 D1 player in the quarters.
TSG… Absolutely.
Don’t know anyhing about TZ except what I pick-up Fr Josh’s stories & the blog. If your center is still hurt you better watch out for Seton Catholic. That team played well against MV late in 2011.
I’ve picked up from the blog that your coach is a bit of a hothead. I caught is act on Ch12 with the Mohawk etc. He looks & sounded that way. Hope he keeps his cool upstate. I understand that you’re very happy with your section title, but moving forward I believe keeping a cool head might help. Is it true that you have a player that doesn’t want to do interviews? O’Shea I thinks the name. You’ll really need to check that kind of stuff outside the section. Hope Seton doesn’t. Rain on your parade. For some reason my heart goes out to Byram Hills sorry
Reality Check… Some of what you wrote is unfair. Me and a few other reporters have characterized O’Shea as being reluctant to do interviews because he is shy. He always does them and answers the questions. You shouldn’t have any negative words for him about that.
Josh
I just watched a very brief interview with MSGV on HSSD, I understand now. He did seem like a shy kid. Glad you confirmed that it’s not that he has an “attitude”
TZ was characterized as a very cohesive team with good team chemistry. That will serve them well, although their coach might want to check himself. Showing up refs gets you nowhere. Can’t believe he wears a Mohawk too. I kind of like that O’Shea doesn’t have one.
You know the old saying “look like you’ve been there before” even if you haven’t. Great season so far fellas. If you want your dream season to continue, act like you belong. Too bad they can’t grow a bunch if hair real fast LLLOOOLLL
good luck w/ Seton it’s a tough road to get to the Falls & NO ONE’s gonna beat JDW SORRY
REALITY CHECK,
I DO NO THAT HARBORFIELDS IS A GREAT TEAM,AND COULD GIVE J.D. A GO
Haywood
I saw Baldwin’s win vs Uniondale. If things go our way Fri. Nite at Pace, I’ll be at Hofstra on Sat at 2pm to watch the Baldwin/ William Floyd game. Baldwin has a kid named Williams who runs the show Fr The point. He had 18pt 5a 4r & 3st vs uniodale. Good news is he fouled out. Uniondale would of won but their star Shaq Mosely had a horrible shooting game. Don’t know much about Floyd.
As far as harborfields goes don’t know much about Em but how is anyone gonna beat JD w/ Coleman? Calipari was at the Falls last year. My comments were directed at TZ. They’re in uncharted waters & like I said even if you haven’t been their “act like you have”. From what I’m reading their coach is a real Cowboy. Chill out my man. Lose & go home. Have you caught his act? I’ve only seen him on ch12 Mohawk & all LLLOOOLLL
Reality check,
He acts like a football coach, after the defense made a goal line stand,I kinda like a coach that wears his heart on his sleeve, high fiving the players after they come to the bench,I think he is very young
Cause,
You are right. There has been a firestorm all season long upstate about how Christian Brothers Academy has been given the benefits of calls. People upstate say that CBA has 3 wins based on the official’s help. That includes last night’s game, which Troy controlled until the last seconds of regulation time. A foul at the end of regulationwas not called on CBA. To compound it, the officials called a tech on the Troy coach after the non call. The officials knew the non call which sent the game into overtime was controversial, yet one of them hung around the Troy bench and said he heard something and called a tech on the Troy Coach. CBA shot the techs and went on to win in overtime.
Some officials in the NYSPHSAA are really bad, and in a one and done playoff format, good teams can and are getting knocked out based on the official’s calls. Not just the end of the game calls, but they have the power to put stars on the bench with foul trouble, and most of us agree that officials make too many petty calls, and don’t let the kids play. Kids work hard to get here. They should be allowed to win or lose based on that they do on the court. The CHSAA is head and shoulders better than the NYSPHSAA when it comes to officiating, where bad officials are marched out there time and time again. Is there a review of controversial officiating, and are any of them held accountable if they do not perform? Don’t get me wrong, there are good officials, but good officials are powerless to overturn foul calls, and do not want to go against their comrades on the court. Sad.
Reality Check,
The funny thing about Gaine is that HE HAS BEEN THERE BEFORE!! I’m personally not a fan of his, but the one thing I will give him credit for is that the kids respond to him and really seem to love playing for him. When you have a team that will go out there and play for their coach it can only lead to good things.
Sports Guy
Good Point. Sounds like he could lead them off a cliff like Lemmings
Damn Westchester 1
that’s some serious accusations! If that’s true & the fix was in. Will these same corrupt officials be officiating at the Falls or at Pace on Fri. Nite. I don’t know how it works. I can’t believe that kind of blatant Cheating basically goes on. Hanging bye the bench; waiting for a comment to be called to T Em Up… WOW
He loves his kids and they love him. They wanted the mohawk and he got it.
He must be doing something right!!!
Keep it positive people!!!
Good luck to section 1 as WE ALL continue on to the next step!!!
Reality Check,
After the non call, the officials should have not compounded it by calling a tech on Troy. If the Troy coach made physical contact with an official or threw a chair, then ok, but the correct move was to not call a tech at that juncture of the game, and especially after what happened. Walk away and let the kids decide the game.
It has been tough to watch games recently. Early double bonuses and fouls on every play down the stretch turns off the casual fan who wants to see a good game. If your team is not still in the playoffs and you just want to see good basketball, then you have to go to NY and watch the CHSAAA and PSAL games.
W1
I sure hope they let Em play Fri. Nite. If ur team lost; get onboard the Knights Express! The Vern takes all; we don’t discriminate; just no infiltrators;. Less is More. Act like you’ve been there are. And all is good! Next Stop Pace @7pm Be There
CAN SOMEONE TELL ME…...
WHATS THE PUNISHMENT FOR THE ADULTS?????????
DA MOST HATED,
PAYCHECKS AND MORE PAYCHECKS
I BELIEVE,KEVIN JONES WILL GET ROBBED TODAY,SMH
I BELIEVE THE.BIG EAST WILL PUNISH WEST VIRGINA FOR LEAVING THE BIG EAST,2 PLAYERS FROM NOTRE DAME LEAD THE LEAGUE IN SCORING AND REBOUNDING AND THEY BOTH WON POY,KEVIN IS THE THIRD IN THE HISTORY OF THE BIG EAST,TO DO IT,AT LEAST THE AWARD SHOULD HAVE BEEN SHARED,I HOPE I’M WRONG BUT I DON’T THINK SO,WOW
Reality Check,
Coach was a man of his word. His team asked him if they got back to county center would he do it, he did. He is not showing up the refs with his antics. That is the way he coaches fired up 32 minutes every night.
Sports Guy,
always hating on tz just because they beat your school (son). Every coach has their own style and coach gaine is all out all day everyday. He invests more to his team than any other coach. And that is not a knock on other coaches because they all care a ton, but coach Gaine goes above and beyond for his team. that is why his players love him!
HAYWOOD!!...

DA MOST HATED,
PAYCHECKS AND MORE PAYCHECKS!!...
HAYWOOD IT’S A SHAME THAT SEC1 COMMITT… CAN LOOK US IN THE FACE AND DO WHAT THEY DID TO THAT KID!!!... THEY SHOULD BE PUNISHED!!.. NOT LANCE!!!
DA MOST HATED,
I BELIEVE THEY HAVE SCARED HIM,AND DAMAGED HIS SELF BEING,THEY ARE SUPPOSE TO PROTECT HIM,BUT IT SEAMS LIKE THEY WANT TO THROW HIM TO THE WOLFS,BAD SITUATION FOR A PERSON TRYING TO DO GOOD,HEADS SHOULD ROLL.
Glory Daze,
I’m pretty sure I noted that his kids love playing for him which is a great thing. And why would I be jealous of TZ. We are both champions!!!
Glory Daze
My apologies. All I know about TZ & this coach is what I read & see on TV. I don’t know him so I’m sorry. I’m the kind of guy who wants jerseys tucked in, Shorts at the waistline & NO tattoos. This works for a couple of Hall of Famers. Well one in NJ might have the kid hide a tatoo if he transferred in. Discipline is King. You can be their friend to a point, but discipline will get them somewhere. Watch the “Streets Stop Here” it should be required viewing for every coach. You guys have a real feel good story going on. Sorry for raining on the parade because this guys antics & the Mohawks rub me the wrong way. He’ll need more than Mohawks against JD if he gets to Em. Coleman the ManChild is a beast!
Speaking of ridiculous officiating calls. Check this one out.
