Tuesday’s schedule/scores: Class AA and C quarterfinals
The eight playoff teams in Class C finally take the court this afternoon, joining the eight in Class AA that earned the right to advance on Friday.
We’ll have a bunch of reporters out at boys and girls games all over the coverage area today. I’ll hit three games alone. First, it’s a repeat of last year — a 2 p.m. tip at Tuckahoe. I’ll follow up by taking the short drive to Mount Vernon and will then shoot up to Fox Lane. Rick Carpiniello has the Carmel-South game, with Brian Heyman scheduled for Arlington-Mahopac.
Follow along for updates of those five and more on Twitter @LoHudInsider. I’ll be sure to keep the info flowing all afternoon and night.
Today’s schedule is below. Enjoy the games!

GAME RECAPS —
Class AA quarterfinals
Mount Vernon 74, New Rochelle 59: At No. 1 Mount Vernon, Isaiah Cousins scored 16 points and Jarrel Marshall and Qwadere Lovell added 12 apiece in the Knights’ third win over New Rochelle this season. The six-time defending Class AA champ also received eight points, nine rebounds and three blocks from Givvion Jones and eight points and two assists off the bench from Jamel Knott. The senior keyed a 19-2 run in the second quarter with Cousins and Marshall on the bench in foul trouble. Knott’s eight-point spurt helped Mount Vernon regain the lead after New Rochelle went ahead 19-18 midway through the second quarter.
That was the only lead of the game for the eighth-seeded Huguenots, who were led by Kirkland Ottey. The senior scored all of his 25 points in the second half after sitting out the first half because of disciplinary reasons. Sean Fener added 16 points off the bench. The two combined to sink seven 3-pointers, but New Ro spent much of the game in foul trouble. Starters Joe Clarke, Terrence Holden and Chris Elefante all fouled out.
Fox Lane 52, North Rockland 39: At No. 2 Fox Lane, Will Trawick, Dylan Peretz and Ben Korren each scored 13 points to lead the Foxes, who reached the County Center for the first time since they won the Class A title in 2004. Trawick added 12 rebounds and Peretz 11. Trawick threw down a one-handed dunk just before the shot clock expired with 1:22 remaining to break a five-minute scoreless drought as Fox Lane clung to a 44-39 lead. Fox Lane finished the game on an 8-0 run.
Charles Nardone led No. 7 North Rockland with nine points. His jumper that would’ve cut it to a one-possession game with about two minutes to play rimmed out. Teammates Tyrell Price and Alex Ramirez each added eight apiece.
Clarkstown South 63, Carmel 58: At No. 4 South, Mike McCahey had 27 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Vikings to their first-ever appearance in the County Center. Their last team to advance this far was the 1977-78 Section 9 champions, who lost to eventual state champ Mount Vernon in a state regional game in Albany. They will play the defending state champion Knights now in the Section 1 semis.
South rallied from a 40-30 deficit early in the third quarter until freshman Connor McGuinness hit a 3-pointer at the end of the third to cut it to 43-42. McCahey then added a pair of 3-pointers to give South the lead. Clayton Roker added a big 3 with under a minute to play to give his team a six-point edge.
Roker finished with 17 points and seven rebounds. Keith Murphy led No. 5 Carmel with 21 points and Bashkim Rugovia added 19 points and six rebounds. They helped the Rams lead early in the first quarter. They held that lead for most of the game until the fourth quarter.
McCahey finished the game with 1,399 points. He is 35 shy of breaking Jeff Brown’s school record of 1,433.
“I haven’t really thought much about it since the playoffs started,” McCahey told Rick Carpiniello. “This was the main goal since the preseason – to get to the County Center. So it feels great to accomplish that goal.”
Mahopac 76, Arlington 75 (2 OT): At No. 3 Mahopac, the Indians rallied from an 18-point deficit in the second half to send the game into overtime. They trailed late in the first overtime until Zach Ankier’s steal in the final seconds. He assisted on a basket by Mark Vaccaro that tied the game. Brendan Hynes then put Mahopac in front to stay thanks to six points in the second overtime. The junior finished with 24 points, 10 rebounds and five assists despite having just five points at halftime because of foul trouble. He hit a pair of free throws with 24.5 seconds remaining in the second overtime that proved to be the decisive points.
Mahopac advanced to the County Center for the second straight season despite losing nine starters to graduation. One of the returning players, Ankier, finished with 21 points and eight rebounds.
“To lose so much from last year’s team and to have such a young group and for them to do this, especially being down, it’s unbelievable,” coach Kevin Downes said. “It’s just unbelievable.”
Class C quarterfinals
Tuckahoe 100, Lincoln Hall 35: At No. 1 Tuckahoe, Sky Williams had 33 points, 11 rebounds and four assists as Tuckahoe eclipsed the 100-point mark for the third straight game.
“We have to try to get 100 every game. It’s nothing against other teams; it’s just what we do,” Williams said. “We score high numbers every game. We like to push it and get up and down the court. We prefer playing fast.”
Justin Nolan added 23 points, eight rebounds and eight assists for the unbeaten Tigers (19-0), who will play the winner of No. 4 Haldane and No. 5 Hamilton at the County Center Monday at 6:15 in the Class C semifinals.
“It’s always been our goal to get to states, so that always keeps us driving,” Williams said. “That goal keeps us focused.”
Keio 49, Palisade Prep 30: In a Class C quaterfinals game at Yonkers Montessori Academy, Shimpei Konto had 15 points and Fumiakai Kobayashi and Toshiki Himei each scored nine points for No. 6 Keio. Brandon Tate led No. 3 Palisade Prep with 11 points. Keio will play No. 2 Chilrdren’s Village in the semifinals on Monday, Feb 27 at 4:30 p.m. at the Westchester County Center.
Children’s Village 72, Martin Luther King 40: In a Class C quaterfinals game at No. 2 Children’s Village, Andre Jones hit six three pointers and scored 27 points and Roger Owens had 17 points and 10 assists for Children’s Village. Tyrone Turner led No. 7 Martin Luther King with 14 points. Children’s Village will play No. 6 Keio in the semifinals on Monday at 4:30 p.m. at the Westchester County Center.

TUCKAHOE-100 -35 final,
Only one problem, why would you let the staters start and play the first 3 minutes of the fourth quarter up by more than 55 points?
46 points after 3 quarters
The team TUCKAHOE played (lincoln hall) played without their best player and they had to bring up JV players, because 3 other players had home visits, wow
haywood, i agree.lets all root against this coach.
This is becoming a real problem for Tuckahoe. Last year in this round they “had to get to 100” with the clock expiring and all scrubs on the court. Take a lesson from Kentucky and most other highly-ranked teams and don’t humiliate the opponent when the game is in hand. You’re going to get to states even if you only put up 98.
End of the 1st , 16 – Arlington up
Sorry 16-13 Arlington up after 1
Mount Vernon 74 -59,valiant effort by new RO,knights out scored new RO 19-2,with cousins and marshell on bench with 2 could each, wow
2 fouls each
Arlington 36-22 over Mahopac before 1st half
What is going on on Baldwin Road.
I had a feeling about Arlington
39 24 Arlington at half. My daughter says Arlington is making everything they put up. You guys had that feeling they would.
Arlington is that time of team. Mahopac has to come out of the 3rd w/ everything they have on D. This kind of night has to be frustrating for Mahopac.
Statesman,
Lets save that energy for tomorrow,LLLLLLOOOOOLLLLL
Statesman,
I got my seat at the county, get yours.
Wood,
It’s the toughest ticket in a while but if they do their thing they’ll be fine. Looking forward to seeing them hectic on D for 4 quarters.
Not over yet Haywood, Pac cut it to 9 end of third
Pac is w/in striking distance. All you can ask for, going to be a wild 4th.
Pac down 3 climbed all the way back. I knew Arlington would cool off but didn’t expect Mahopac to climb back so quickly. Good job, may the best team get it done.
Come on MAHOPAC,don’t blow it now
OT, NOT SURE WHAT WENT ON JUST GETTING TXT
Wood
Gotta leave the office but if Pac wins save me a seat at county LOL
I gotcha
Looking forward to Welsh vs. Welsh tomorrow when pleasantville takes on blind brook. Should be a great game.
2nd overtime PACFAN up 4,2min left
Wow classy stuff by Tuckahoe, NOT!
PACFAN UP 6 WITH 1 MIN LEFT 2ND IT
47 SECONDS PACFAN UP 72-66
76-75 MAHOPAC FINAL
JCIROCCO,
I GOT YOUR SEAT,LLLLLLOOOOOLLLLL
Great win Pac. Way to fight back. I know Arlington has a tough ride home. I feel for them. Lesson learned. A nice AA Final Four.
Wow must have been a great game, congrats to both teams obviously could have went either way .WOOD,upper or lower section ?
Shout out to Coach Downs, county center 2 years in a row is a great accomplishment for a basketball team from Mahopac High School, also he was one game away in 2009.
I am sitting balcony mid-court above the scoreboard, first row,on players side,
Statesman,its showtime,take no prisoners
The Oracle speaks from a vision….........
“O’ ye sons of Tuckahoe take heed & beware
Soaring on rarefied and intoxicating currents of 100 point victories
At the expense of foes so shamelessly humbled”
“Beware the Ides of March when Hubris
Burnishes your false shield of invincibility blinding you,
Thus in disbelief to become the Vanquished rather than Vanquisher”
“For what does goes around shall also come around.”
As it is spoken thus!
Haywood/Statesman….......
stupid question on my part…..Can one purchase tickets in advance for the semis? Don’t wish to travel so far to be standing in the cold on the outside looking in!
Just an observation on the MV New Ro game. The officials in section 1 call way too many fouls. Let the kids play. It’s ridiculous to see both team’s stars on the bench and the game turning into a foul shooting contest. Those two officials were horrible. The chsaa is head and shoulders over section one in officiating.
middletown beats kingston 66-63 tonight.
Paper Tiger!
JMOOSE,
If and when newburgh and Mv play where is the site.
MVHS65,
You can get tickets early that day when they open the ticket office,at around 12PM,no sooner
haywood….....Doesn’t Sect 1 AA get a bye and plays the winner of Section 9 vs. 4?
Wouldn’t that be down in Section 1 territory?
jmoose…....sorry Kingston is getting slices of humble pie of late. perhaps you were right about their ‘dimly lit home court advantages’ that inflated their and others’ opinions of them.
MVHS65,
On march 2nd the first game starts at 430pm,gates will open around 2pm.
Remember Kingston beat new RO by only 1 point
Some MV players were very agitated tonight. They were called for fouls after being warned for being aggressive. They lost Cousins and Marshall to fouls in the 1st half when they were warned and were still being aggressive. Everyone in the building could see those fouls were coming. Everyone but the MV coaches. The MV bench is loaded with coaches. What are they doing? There are some things going on out there that they are not paying attention too.
MVHS65,
I am not sure
and this Pok team by 8 in their first game when they were 4 games in. Wonder what’ll happen if they played now. Oh well maybe next season.
JYT,
VERY CHIPPY GAME LAST TIME AND MV TURNED IT INTO A DUNKATHON,THAT PLAY AND THOSE ATTITUDES,WHERE EXPECTED,NO HARM,”GOLD BALL TIME”
Great game tonight at South. Carmel gave them everything they had but South managed to pull it out. Mccahey gave another great performance and Clayton Roker and the freshman Mcguiness really stepped up. Great accomplishment by Mccahey to get to 1399 points and counting. Going to be only the 5th guy in Rockland ever to pass 1400. If not for playing only 18 games a year now he probably would be Rocklands all time leading scorer
STATESMAN,
ARE THE TROOPS READY FOR BATTLE?
SEC 1 BALL,
I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TEAM YOU ROOT FOR ,BUT NOW CLARKSTOWN SOUTH WILL GET THE ULTIMATE TEST.
Was at PAC game tonight best game I have ever seen. Arlington could not miss in 1st half. Up 18 in the 3rd and PAC comes all the way back. Hynes is incredible, Ankier biggest play of the year, and prob had a dozen rebound. Kids coming off the bench were huge. Very tough loss for Arlington. May never get that close again, they just seem to crack under the pressure. PAC was relentless Both teams played hard but all the credit to PAC. Those kid never quit. Great HS atmosphere. Hope PK gets it done tomorrow for Dutchess County.
mvhs65 – regional game between section 9 and 4 and 1 rotates. last year’s regional game was at the county center. so this year it would be either in 9’s or 4’s backyard. i would assume new paltz, if 9 wins.
NEW ROCHELLE WAS THE SECOND BEST TEAM IN SECTION 1,AND LOST TO MV FOR THE THIRD TIME BY 15,MY MATH SAYS,BLOWOUT PARTY AT THE COUNTY.
Haywood,
I would say South or Fox Lane is 2nd best team in AA. New Ro may be more athletic but this was a down yr for them. I agree it looks like a blowout for sure, but new Ro struggled this yr. Had they beaten Mamaroneck in the 2nd league game they would have avoided MV. MV will win both games by at least 25 and that is conservative.
How do you write the New Rochelle – MT Vernon story without mentioning the fact that New Ro’s Kirkland Ottey scored 26 points, most if not all, in the 2nd Half?
Tuckahoe your not a powerhouse year in and year out. All of this lack of sportsmanship will come and bite you.
Take a look at MV. This is a team that is a powerhouse every year and you guys had more blowout wins this year then they probably had over the last 10. Learn from the Best in Section 1. Show some respect.
Its funny, you guys have most of Section 1 rooting against you guys in the states. We all know your a LOCK to win it but your home Section is not behind you which is sad.
Honestly,I find blowout wins impressive.Record scores and victory margins are something to fight for,not avoid in order to lower your game to your competition’s.
@Haywood – I think you and CoachB may have that meeting after all, do you and him still have the arranged meeting, I remember you and CoachB talking about meeting at the county center, looks like a possibility now. Maybe CoachB was on to something? Pac still has one more step to go before they will have an opportunity to play the big dogs from Mt. Vernon. Any truth that several of the MV players are being scouted by D-1 schools?
haywood,
I root for all the Rockland teams but trust me I would never expect any of them to compete with Mount Vernon. Getting to the County Center is a great accomplishment for South. Obviously Mount Vernon is going to win easily but its nice to see them get there. Adds to a great year for Rockland where Tz and Albertus are both favorites to win it all along with nice years by Pearl River, Ramapo, North Rockland and Suffren as well. Also the group of Mike McCahey, Tyler Sayer, Pat Peterson, Pat Mcguiness, David Haye, Billy Oshea, Joe Clinton, Austin Otoole, and Clayton Roker is probably the best class of Seniors Rockland has had in a long time
SECT 1 BALL,
TO BE HONEST,I THINK CLARKSTOWN SOUTH IS A GRITTY TEAM,LAST YEAR I TOOK NOTICE WHEN THEY BEAT HORACE GREELY AND MIKE M. OUT PLAYED THE BIG GUY,
PACSTER,
I WILL BE LOOKING FOR COACH B.,LIKE I SAID I WILL BE SITTING IN THE FRONT ROW AT MID COURT ABOVE THE SCOREBOARD IN THE BALCONY ON THE PLAYERS BENCH SIDE,CONGRATS TO MAHOPAC,COACH B.”CAN YOU WALK ON WATER”LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOLL
Coach Murphy needs to stop complaining. You don’t get a higher seed because you are New Ro! Here is am idea. Beat Mamaroneck during the regular season and you would be a higher seed. #7 or #6. Stop crying!
Eastchester is the news! East 60 Pok 48. IT is over Poughkeepsie!!!!!
EASTBOUND,
YOU BETTER HOPE POUGHKEEPSIE DOSEN’T COME IN THERE WITH THEIR “A GAME,IF THEY DO,YOU WILL BE ABLE TO HERE DOLLAR BILLS DRIP IN THAT GYM.
DROP NOT DRIP
Josh, check the same racial slur hidden above in the Mahopac bloggers’s name. It is not enough to just take it down. It needs to be addressed.
Gillnewro//all Ottey’s points came in the 2nd half. Kid played well along with the small point guard who got into foul trouble and that was a killer. Three of his fouls came under the basket when he had no chance for a block. He was too aggresive and should have just let MV score.
JYT… terrible job by the ref’s, they were out of position quite a bit.I was told one of them is the President of the organization. A few of the New Ro kids came in with an attitude I believe. It sure looked like one or two of them were on a mission to take MV out of their game. Just play the game and stop the taunting.
65… You walk into the center next friday and the roof is going to fall..lol
Shawn.. I have to agree with you on the “Run-it-up Tigers”
The MV coaches have to make sure their players don’t get baited into getting fouls and techs. Even after warnings, the MV players got fouls. That is bad coaching, because everyone in the building saw what was about to happen. MV seems to never call many timeouts. They need to use some of them to calm their players down. Isaiah Cousins is a good player, but he makes very bad fouls, and it hurts his team. The games I have seen MV play, Isaiah Cousins was sitting on the bench most of the 1st half. Again that is bad coaching. That is a pattern, so someone needs to address it. If the MV bench did not play well yesterday they could have found themselves in a 1st half hole. One of these games they may not be able to climb out of a hole if they continue to lose him like that.
At times cimmino was visibly upset with some of the fouls his players made. The refs definitely made the game very sluggish and slow with all the whistles and did take mt v out of their game.
cadet….Should I go, it will actually be close to the 45th anniversary [Feb. ‘67] of the Bill Pleas 2 ball slam in warm-ups of MVHS v. Peekskill….which did bring the roof down that night. I’ve not been back to the County Ctr. since that night, so it would be an emotional return for me. Kind of like making a pilgrimage to a holy shrine where the holiest of holys had stepped. Already the revered images of ‘Squid’ Smalls and ‘Goose’ Seward appear before me. Good omens indeed!
jyt…...... I agree with you 100%. Lesser talent will always look for ways to improve their chances at an pulling off the upset. In the name of “aggressive” play they may try to rattle their opponents with hard, borderline flagrant fouls. Chippy play and trash talking should not pull Mount Vernon from their mission, that is sticking to the game plan of playing hard but focused and disciplined. Never, ever allow an opponent to drag you down to their level.
J
The MV Coach was visibly upset but when he sees the officials calling things tight he has to adjust. Call a time out and tell your players to watch what they are doing. Isaiah Cousins does MV no good in fouled trouble and game after game he is sitting for much of the first half. What are the MV coaches doing between games when their star player loses time in foul trouble every game. One game it is possibly going to catch up to them. Some team is going to get a lead and not let it go. MV should be blowing these teams out aery. If MV lets teams hang around and they get confident that they can play with them then anything can happen. New Ro could have been blown out early then the two MV stars had to sit and New Ro caught up and took the lead. MV has a good bench but they are lucky they played well yesterday.
Cousins first foul every game is a mugging.
JYT,
SAME THING HAPPENED LAST YEAR,JABARIE WOULD GET IN FOUL TROUBLE,AND THE REST OFF THE TEAM WAS READY,THESE ARE THE SAME GUYS THAT CARRIED JABARIE BEFORE HE GOT GOING,THE MV SUBS ARE STARTERS ON OTHER TEAMS,”BEHOLD THE MAROON AND GOLD”
@Haywood – Only when it freezes, like I told you before. I have been under a rock for a while peeking out and watching, hopefully the boys get past Foxlane and then maybe I can say hello and buy you a beer. I know if we get MV it may be a rough night, but it will be fun, but you never know, gotta have hope!
HAYWOOD
CONGRATS!... ON THE VICTORY, I WAS LOOKING FOR YOU YESTERDAY!... WE WILL PAY YOU BACK IN SEPTEMBER!!..:)
34-7
HAYWOOD
YOU HAVE THE BEST TEAM (MV) IN THIS AREA BY FAR!!! PUBLIC OR PRIVATE!!
prince:
no way, new ro’s football team would beat mvernons basketball team.
Haywood
MV cannot afford to lose their top player every night especially when the competition gets tougher.
Kingston lost to Middletown last night but they are not out of it. That game was not a playoff game. Their sectionals will begin soon so you may still see them against a section 1 team. They are not as good as some people thought.
Mt Vernon’s players are on Iona’s football team. They raid the MV Razerbacks every year.
New Ro complaining about seeds is very unbecoming. Beat Mamk in regular season and you are on the other side of the bracket. Your own fault.
Look at it this way, by losing to Mt Vernon, you won’t have all the parents complaining that you were beaten by an inferior team.
TO ALL CONCERNED,
#1 NEWBURGH IS BETTER THAN KINGSTON
#2 IF MV DOES NOT WIN BOTH GAMES AT THE COUNTY BY DOUBLE DIGITS,I WILL BUG EVERYONE A HOT DOG.
#3 PRINCE I LOVE YA,LLOOLL
#4 TO ALL MV FANS REMEMBER HOW YOU FELT AFTER MV LOST TO WHITE PLAINS LAST YEAR,ALL THE DOUGHT
#5 REMEMBER HEAVY D-WHEN WE WALK THE STREETS ,WE GET MUCH RESPECT,WE GET HELLO’S AND WHAT’S UP FROM THE YOUNG’INS AND THE VETS.
#6 GOLD BALL
It should be obvious within the first couple of minutes in a game whether the refs have either
A. swallowed their whistles or
B. are hyper-ventilating into them.
That said the coach, in this case Cimmino, [as others have already said] needs to get his players acutely tuned into and adjusted to how the refs are calling the game….it’s not rocket science.
And yes, haywood, MV support players did carry the team when Jabarie sat with his 2 or 3 stupid, reach in fouls in the 1st half of many, many games. But this is playing with fire and we have scars to show for it.
GAEL
OF COURSE THE WOULD!!....
NEW RO
TRUE!!.. THANKS IONA!!... RAID THE JUNIOR KNIGHTS ALSO!! LOL!!
Haywood & other interested parties…........AA regional playoff schedule
March 10th: Winner of Sections 9 & 4 game PLAY AT PACE UNIVERSITY against Section 1 champion [don’t want to jinx the boys]
DANG!! I’m going to be landing in Cuba on that day. Wonder if Fidel can hook me up with a LIVE FEED for the game.
NEW RO
HONESTLY IT WOULD NOT MAKE A DIFFERENCE THE FOOTBALL COACHES ARE VERY BAD!!.. THEY WOULDN’T BEAT NEW RO WITH IONA AND MVHS COMBINE!!!
HAYWOOD
YOUR THE BEST!!... NEXT TOO…..... “JUST A FACT”...
The scouting report on Mt Vernon is that they begin games too agressive and over play. Also Cousins is a hot head and can be taken out of the game via fouls because he mouths off and becomes a target of the officials.
Haywood,
MVHS65 is correct. Sect 1 has the regional bye and hosts the regional final. I believe sect 4 travels to 9 for the regional game. Probably at New Paltz. Would be nice to see the game at the Mount if newburgh makes it.
I also agree with you that NFA is better than Kingston. However, not that much better. If NFA is clicking and getting production from there freshman and sophmore starters then they win. If those 2 lay an egg then Kingston has a shot. As it stands either NFA or Kingston will have to play Middletown in the semis which will be a tough matchup
I believe that #1/2 ranking for Kingston was the worst thing that could have happend to that team. If im Coach Kelder I would have been begging NYSSWA to drop them down to 10 or 15.
Or at the very least, I would have let the team see some film of MV or Lincoln. LOL…
Scout….nice scouting report on Mt. Vernon
Which reminds me of the old joke about the Indian scout on his horse atop a mesa scanning the wide horizon for his seemingly lost tribe.
Wondering aloud he says no one in particular…
“Where the Fugahwee.”
A feeble attempt at humor on the LoHud bloggers board.
mvhs65,
If coach Cimino is “fed up” with Mr Cousins behavior I would be more than happy to let him play with my goldbacks for the stretch run. As long as he has a family member in the district of course. Or better yet, maybe Will Bouton’s parents can find it in there heart to foot the bill.
lol, MVHS.
The Enlarged District you mean
The MV Coach does a great job at being a father figure to his players and gives the parents confidence that they will be safe and learn in a challenging environment. If not for him, 2/3 of the team would be in a catholic school just like their football stars. Keeping the stars makes MV a threat every year. MV has a big coaching staff but the assistant coaches either have no input or they are not very good. I went to the game yesterday. NR had their off guard open in the corner all game long which hurt MV. All of NR’s good shooters were left wide open. I’m surprised that MV did not identify the good shooters and instruct their players to stick to them like glue. Instead the good NR shooters were left open which kept them in the game.
In the County Center last season toward the end of the game with Poughkeepsie MV was being fouled intentionally. Knowing this MV did not have their best foul shooters in the game. Hinds kept calling for the ball was fouled and missed everything at the line. I was told by a MV fan that he was horrible at the line all season. Poughkeepsie came within one missed 3 from making it a one possession game.
Statesman,
I expect to be at the county center and see Poughkeepsie vs peekskill, can your boys make it happen?
Bball ,
that was true about last years final. I was flabbergasted that hinds kept on receiving the ball at the end of the game. He was terrible from the line last year. MV finally put the ball in the hands of the Ashton kid and he converted both.
scout
If MV is so easily beaten, why hasn’t anybody done it yet (in NY anyway)? This team is so good and so deep Cousins is not really needed for them to win. Of course they love having him – the guy is a great player, but they are still the best team in the state with him on the bench.
SCARY,
I TOTTALLY AGREE,ALL THOSE GUYS ON THE BENCH,WANT AND CAN BE THE STAR OF ANY GAME,THAT IS CALLED HUNGRY TO BE A PART OF A CHAMPION AND CONTRIBUTE IN ANYWAY THEY CAN,WE DON’T DIE “WE MULTIPLY”
Haywood,
I dont think Scout was saying that MV is easily beaten. Just a scouting report on Mr Cousins over zealous play at times.
Cleary, MV is not easily beaten by any team locally this year. It will take a total team effort mixed with a little luck and maybe a miracle or 2 to beat MV this year. Crazier things have happened but I dont see it in my crystal ball this year.
JMOOSE,
WHAT’S UP WITH THE SKINNY TALL KID NEWBURGH BROUGHT UP FROM THE JV
Some shake ups out on the island. HHHW was beaten. Most likely going to see Deer Park out of Suffolk and Uniondale out of Nassau with Uniondale winning. Uniondale does have to play Farmingdale who is very solid, but they shouldn’t lose. MV is going to get them and if anyone thinks this is going to be blow out, you are mistaken. Barring an upset, Uniondale will be a very stiff challenge for MV. Talent wise, Uniondale ranks high, its the coaching where MV has such a distinct advantage.
And Harborfields balsted everyone in A. They get Amityville next. They shouldhammer them too. Next big stop for Harborfields is going to be Dewitt. For anyone going to the Feds, this will be a hell of a game.
HRs,
UNIONDALE HAS NOT HAD A REAL CHALLENGE ALL YEAR,ALL THEIR WINS WHERE DOUBLE DIGITS,RIGHT OR WRONG?
B-Ball,
You are right. That kept us in in. Both Gause and McLaurin had 3’s that rimmed out that could have made it even more interesting. Ashton had those FT’s and the coup de grace 3’s.
Wood,
The Pioneers def can make it happy. I’ll try to get there early and hopefully they play inspired defense and in transition for 32 minutes. You have to worry about Peekskill, they are not playing any slouches either. Both Pok and Peek are in for nice battles today.
happen
Haywood,
HES RAW! 6’6”, long arms and can jump. Very raw offensively. Should be a good player down the road. Blocks alot of shots.
Super nice kid too. He is a keeper!
Probably wont see much time unless someone is injured or in foul trouble.
Wood… they haven’t been challenged on a national scene that is for sure. And it will most likely nip them in the butt. Early on they played a few out of conference games(Middletown to name one) and blasted them. With that being said, locally their league was a lot better than in years past. Farmingdale is very good. To eqaute them locally, they would crush New Ro and WP this year. And Uniondale would make mince meat of them even worse.
Put it this way, if you gave Cimino this Uniondale team, they would most likely be the favorite to win it all out of the publics. Shaq Mosely, Romario Williams, T. Brown and Woodard are legit.
MV should beat them, but it won’t be because Uniondale didn’t have the talent…trust me.
STATESMAN,
AS ALWAYS GOOD LUCK,AND I HOPE YOU HAVE AN UPSIDE DOWN FROWN,AFTER THE BUZZARD SOUNDS
JMOOSE,
NEWBURGH HAS.GOT A LOT OF YOUNG TALENT PLAYING,VERY GOOD TO SEE,THINGS STARTING TO TURN FOR THE BETTER,I HEARD THE OLD BASKETBALL COACH WAS TOLD HE CAN’T COACH THE LAX-TEAM,WOW
HRs,
GREAT JOB ON INFO
The class AA regional final for boys and girls will be played at Pace Univ. on either 3/9 or 3/10.
Thank you sir. This is Uniondale’s shot. 4 of the starters are seniors and the PG(Shaq) has been waiting for this opportunity. If you haven’t seen him play, you are gonna love him.
MV is just too deep and too well coached. But if for some reason they did lose agains them, I can’t say I would be floored by it. Let’s just hope both teams get the chance to play each other(SORRY J MOOSE and SCOTT). It will be a fun, fun game.
HRS,
Who beat H.H.H.W ?
Lindenhurst who was the 8th seed. They are not good nor is HHHW. The Nassau rep should be Deer Park, but they will probably get upset. They are so poorly coached. Either way, Nassau is much better this year.
Aside from Uniondale the other top seeds are still there(Elmont, Farmingdale and Baldwin). All teams are solid. The match ups favor Uniondale. They play Farmingdale. Who is still young. Next year they will be the favorite out of Suffolk. They have no seniors. The other match up between Baldwin vs Elmont is interesting. Elmont has experience and are very agressive. They took HHHW down to the wire last year. If it wasn’t for Sledge playing the game of his life, they would have won the island. Baldwin on the other hand has one dominant player in Kyle Richardson. 6’4 guard. He can shoot it and will bomb away from 3. He causes mismatches. Tend to think Elmont gets out of this game along with Uniondale…
Haywood,
Yeah I dont think he will coach as long as that BOE is sitting. Even though the investigations cleared him this board for the most part was not on his side.
They even tried to get rid of me and I dont work for the district… LOL… Actually had some meetings looking into my charitable contributions… As if I have something to hide. But wouldnt talk to me or answer one email i sent. The president of the board had her assistant call me once to tell me that she had recieved my emails. comical. probably one of the worst cases of horrible leadership I have ever seen. In fact one member personally went to some of the establishments in town thet donated to the program to see how I had solicited them for donations. All they had to do was ask! LOL….
Just glad its over with…
HRs,
I believe it was double or triple overtime
Cant wait for the next election!
No one said that beating mount vernon would be easy. They are a great team. The only thing a sec 1 team can hope for is to have a chance in the fourth quarter. New Rochelle was beaten by over 40 points the first game between the two teams. Yesterday New Rochelle baited Mount Vernon’s two best scorers into foul trouble and played them very tough. If that happens against better teams they can lose with their best players on the bench. Especially against new york city teams.
SCOUT,
THE ONLY CITY TEAM MV WILL SEE IS IF THEY GET TO THE FEDERATION FINAL,PUBLIC SCHOOL HAS THE BYE THIS YEAR
Wood,
En route to Tuckahoe and then Eastchester after. I hope I dont regret it! (j/k)
GOOD LUCK ,”BREAKDOWN” LLLLLLOOOOOLLLLL
Haywood
Don”t downplay any team right now. A team that gets on fire from 3 can beat you. Especially with your best players on the bench. If MV wins the gold they have to get past a sect 9 team. That won’t be as easy as you think. If they get past 9, no one knows what is in store for them in Gens Falls. Ask Newburgh or Half Hollows if they expected Christian Brothers to blow them both out 2 years ago. Don’t be so confident that MV is a shoe in to be in that Federation game. The best way for MV to win is to have their best players on the floor.
lol, Wood. Can’t use that drill with these guys, they’ll get too hype and’ll shoot over the backboard knowing them haha. Good looks!
Statesman, Haywood, or anybody,
What’s the latest on the rumor that Dancy and/or Wright mayl be out with injuries for today’s game?
Po Fan,
They are both aching. Dancy w/ an ankle, Wright w/ a foot. The latter not being used to all these miles on a b-ball court being a soccer guy. They will both be in action. Laffin may choose to rotate them in and out to keep them fresh b/c the D will get cranked up to 1000 today.
Just proves that the DC Teams have come a long way. Arlington played very well and beat a HG team that most of you (on here) didn’t give them a chance to beat. Lourdes was down 5 with 5 to go at JFK. Beacon if they had not played Lourdes in the first round would have beat someone and John Jay just got a bad draw playing a tough South team. Poughkeepsie making to back to the CC which I’m sure they will, will prove that the talent level in DC has grown over the last few years. I know that Arlington returns there starting PG in Gio who was their best player imo, Lourdes returns 3 starters and brings up a JV team that was very good this year. Poughkeepsie has a very young team as well with 2 seniors on the team and a JV team that was very good again this year. Watch out next year for all those teams next year.
SCOUT,
I UNDERSTAND,I TAKE NOTHING FOR GRANTED THAT IS WHY I GO TO THESE GAMES,A SEASON CAN BE OVER IN A FLASH
At Eastchester. Dancy and Wright are warming up and seem to be moving naturally. We’ll se how they feel in game.
From my eye test the two teams look very evenly matched. Should be good. T-Minus 38:20 and counting (via scoreboard)
STATESMAN,
SEE YOU AT THE COUNTY
It amazes me arlington isn’t one of the top schools when it comes to athletics.Their football team went from being a doormat to legit.Over 3400 kids has to mean the numbers are crazy for try outs.
Sect1,
The sleeping giant is getting it together. Devin Lawrence actually moved back to PK w/ his mom this year. Key part to what they like to do. If he was still at Arlington, they might have derailed the Mahopac Maniacs last night.
