PROJECTED Class B tournament bracket
You know the drill by this point. Below are my projected seedings and matchups for Section 1’s Class B tournament.
If you missed it, here are the projected seedings and matchups for Class AA that were posted Saturday morning. Class A’s projected tournament bracket was updated to reflect the results of Saturday’s three games, plus one mistake I made with Lakeland.
(Note: I also took a stab at breaking ties between teams with the same index. That will be up to the Section 1 basketball committee at Monday’s seeding meeting. Some will be easier than others…)
With that in mind, here’s what you’ll find below for Class B:
• My projected seeds
• New York state records for each team
• Bonus points, or potential bonus points, for each team
• The playoff index of each team
• A list of teams that did not qualify
• Potential playoff matchups

Josh..you have anthing about Woodlands being in possible violations?
Violation for what?
As usual Woodlands is thought to be playing dirty.
If woodlands were in violation you would think that it would have come up already and something would have been done no?
Apparantly woodlands has a player who was a Junior at Gorton two years ago. The section investigated and woodlands produced a document saying otherwise. It may or may not be true but if woodlands is recruiting is it any different than what Magnus and Kennedy do? There is an unfair advantage that needs to be addressed. The past two class b sectional champs (wood 2009-10, magnus 2010-11) have had players brought in through recruiting. The section has and always will shy away from conflict.
spacecadet… It does not appear to be an issue.
Josh, this is a different topic but I just saw you listed Rye country Day beating Hamden Hall. It is my understanding that Hamden Hall is the number 1 ranked C school in New England and has a minimum of 3 D1 prospects. That is an impressive win for Rye Country Day. RCD also had a senior who recently scored his 1000 point and they have 2 of the best sophomore players in westchester who are considered college prospects. Yet coverage for RCD especially for an impressive win like Hamden Hall is virtually non existent. Is the fact they are not a section 1 team a big negative with respect to the lack of coverage or is it other reasons
bbjunkie… You are right. I will try to rectify the lack of RCDS coverage. They have a very good team this year. Hamden Hall is terrific from what I’ve heard.
I apologize.. when are the official seedings and schedules going to be announced>
spacecadet… Tomorrow (Monday), probably around noon.
Josh, where is the coverage of the pville/bcliff game? There was none in the paper and none here on the blog. It was the only important game played last night, so how could the journal news/lohud not cover it at all? Not even a round up or a box score in the paper or the blog. Why not? It was a fantastic game, that had major playoff ramifications. If i missed any coverage I apologize, but I can not see any. Thanks
Ya Josh the game was crazy, the crowd was going nuts and the players were responding well, its a shame there was no coverage although MSG varsity had an article and the game will b on MSG varsity on wednesday
Mr.basketball- Isaiah cousins
Wasn’t there some sort of issue with Briarcliff recruiting and bringing in out of district player or players last year. Do not know details just that I heard some of the coaches were not happy about it.
Who won the Briarcliff/Pleasantville game? Anyone got a score?
Josh, Will the Journal News/Lohud do anything about the Pleasantville vs Briarcliff game? Even just a box score in tomorrow’s paper? Did you go to the game? Any details that you could tell the blog/me. I missed the game but figured I could get some round up from you guys. Its disheartening not to see you guys not even mention the biggest game played, on a Saturday night, when only 2 other teams played in section 1.
Basketball Fan… I was assigned to cover sectional wrestling yesterday and not the Briarcliff-Pleasantville game. I wish I could’ve gone to it.
It doesn’t appear anyone from either team reported the game to the paper. I’ll try to get some info on it tonight and post it.
Basketball Fan… I’ll have something on the game in a bit.
Edgemont will not be entering the tournament, therefore Dobbs Ferry will get a bye.
If Edgemont chooses not to play in #14, why doesn’t Irvington get invited to the dance? Why on earth would Edgemont choose not to play? Vacation plans over winter break???
Edgemont refusing to play? What a joke. I guess if you can’t be the WINNER why play.
Have fun golfing….I mean skiing
Irvington did not qualify, I do know that Edgemont lost theri leading scorer to a season ending injury, last week. maybe that had something to do with it.
Josh, Thank you for the post, I appreciate it. And to everyone who was doubting that Pleasantville could beat Briarcliff, that Pleasantville wasn’t even in the same class of teams as Briarcliff, just as they had been doubted from the first day of this season, when they weren’t even ranked as one of the top 10 in Class B. Look at them now. Look for a county center run for the Panthers.
Basketball Fan… Although I was the one who didn’t rank Pville early in the season, I agree with what you said. Pville has had an excellent season. Based on the results, I don’t understand how someone could argue Briarcliff, Croton, or anyone in that league was much better, if better at all.
remember 2 years back when pleasantville was undefeated?
briarcliff beat them to end their undefeated season. p’ville’s only loss that season until woodlands won section at county center. woodlands had questionable players from harlem living with the coach…seems like they are accused again this season of something similar.
pleasantville and briarcliff both have no chance this season…sorry….but great rivalry where the best team does not necessarily win each year in head to head play.
Hey JacksonwhiNe, the only question was in your mind. The Section cleared the Woodlands players, so it isn’t or wasn’t an issue. You got a problem, take it up with Section One. We used to have a saying when I was growing up: You are all talk, no action. If you got a problem with how athletics is adminsitered, get from behind your keyboard and do something to change it. While it is certainly your right to sit here and whine about the injsutice of it all, you come off sounding like a petty little man.
woodlands cheats its a fact
Sports Guy,
The only fact is you are stupid. There are rules that are enforced by Section 1. WL has never ever been found to be in violation. Hence, you are stupid for claiming that the school cheats.
You would be better served by helping your community develop its basketball talent, rather than throwing around baseless accusatuions. Oh, I forgot that’s too hard. It’s easier to hide behind a keyboard.
Rudy T, why do you think both of the players in question didn’t play the following season? Henry and Atkins both were declared in eligible by the section. And Jasonwhite the best team won on Saturday no question about that. And Pleasantville is making a county center run, i am predicting it now
Rudy T,
May I remind you are you are hiding behind a keyboard as well so do not be calling the kettle black.2 years ago when Woodlands won the Section Championship the best player was living in the basement of the head coach. This is NOT fair to all the other teams who compete with Woodlands. Woodlands disgraces the game of basketball and makes a mockery of all rules in section one athletics and jasonwhite pville is the better team by far
@ What?: Your facts are absolutely incorrect. Atkins graduated, plain and simple. Henry was declared ineligible when he withdrew from school, moved out of the district, returned and te-enrolled in school. Per Section 1 rules, he was ruled ineligible.
@SG. I’m not making baseless, moronic accusations. Speaking of baseless, moronic accusations, who is the player who lived in the coach’s basement, and who is the coach. Give me names. Where does the coach live?
The Woodlands player(s) were NOT living with the coach. This is a fact.
Rudy T is exactly correct as to what happend with Atkins and Henry last year.
Who is the Woodlands player who came from Gorton?
alot of fishy things sure do go on at woodlands. thats for sure
