Section 1, CHSAA playoff brackets released Monday
Perhaps this blog’s highest-traffic day of the year is probably also my favorite. And…we’re just five days away.
On Monday, both Section 1 and the CHSAA will release their playoff brackets. The Section 1 basketball committee is scheduled to meet at 9 a.m. Monday at BOCES in Elmsford. Later on Monday, around 7:30 that night, the CHSAA coaches will meet in Yonkers and hash out the playoff brackets for the AA, A and B divisions.
It’s always an exciting day, but I find it especially compelling this year. In the CHSAA, the realignment will draw the type of playoff brackets we’ve never seen before. In Section 1, the playoff seedings will be vital, especially in Class AA and A.
There is so much parity in the AA and A I’d say 8-12 teams could reach the County Center. I really believe that. Would New Rochelle — my No. 2-ranked Class AA team — want to play Mamaroneck — a team it just lost to — in the first round? How would one of the top-four seeds in Class A feel about defending champ Byram Hills coming to its gym in the quarterfinals?
It could all come down to matchups. Who’s home? Who’s on the road? Who draws a dangerous team with a mediocre record? Who draws an untested team with a great record? That will likely determine which teams are headed to White Plains and which are headed home.
Soon enough, we’ll have those answers. In fact, we’ll have ‘em on Monday.

Great thread, Josh. You said it all. All about the matchups baby. There will be ‘upsets’ a plenty.
Staesman, you are probably wishing the regular season could end today. According to Devaney Bracketology, PK is the 12 and Riverside is the 5 and Eastchester is the 4. Not bad matchups to get to the county center.
Cuse,
You are right my friend, lol. Already defeated Riverside and Pok is playing better ball now. Still have a big game vs Lourdes. They want to get to 9 win bad and that’ll be at home. Even if Pok finishes 10-8, I can’t see Rye leapfrogging them.
Getting to 11 wins would be great considering all the Pioneers have lost and 3 Losses by 4 points, 3 points and 2 points respectively. I think that battle-readiness will help them down the road. Insane field though so I’m not predicting anything. Letting the cards fall where they may this year.
I guess I’m not the only person who felt this way about PK’s current projected seeding…
That will probably change after tonight, though…
I’m cautiously optimistic that PK will end up with an 11-7 record. I know Lourdes will “vigorously defend” its home court, but I still can’t figure out how it lost to Ketcham… Oh well, guess we’ll have to see how the next few days unfold…
