Tuesday’s roundup: Harrison upsets Byram Hills

Posted by: Josh Thomson - Posted in Boys Basketball on Feb 07, 2012

There’s almost too much to focus on one thing tonight, but let’s start with Harrison, which upset Byram Hills tonight. Byram played without Jeff Lynch, but it’s still the best win of the year for the Huskies. Important to note for Byram opponents: This was the fifth loss for the Bobcats. They will not be a double-bonus team when playoff seedings are determined.

Rye Neck ensured a .500 season by avenging a buzzer-beater defeat. The Panthers beat Valhalla.

In a scheduling quirk, Greeley played Rye for the second straight night. Only this time the Quakers won. Rye beat Greeley on Monday.

At Briarcliff, Brian Daniels and the Bears certainly turned around their fortunes against Croton. Daniels, who dominated early last time but fizzling late, turned in a complete performance in leading his team to victory.

And, last, but not least, I was up at North Salem where red-hot Brewster, led by Brian McNeil, scorched the Tigers again. McNeil made four 3’s in about two minutes late in the first quarter. Teammate Jack Dignan created it all, finishing with nine assists and eight steals.

Much more, but I have to write my story. Enjoy…

Children’s Village 74, Palisade Prep 57: At Children’s Village, Kareem Padgett had 16 points and 10 rebounds. Vance Crichlow scored 16 points. Fred Truss scored 33 points for the Phoenix.

Rye Neck 56, Valhalla 43: At Rye Neck, Brendan Crowley scored 18 points and Matt Franks had 14 points and six rebounds. The win guarantees the Panthers its first season with a winning percentage above .500 in six years. Terrance Tribble scored 12 points for the Vikings.

Fox Lane 61, Port Chester 42: At Port Chester, Will Trawick had 14 points and Carlito Carvahlo scored eight for Fox Lane. Preston Higgins led Port Chester with 11 points.

Any info on Jay-Mahopac? Was the game as close as the final score?

  2. Statesman

    Coach K,

Jay was up for a large portion of the game. Pac used a furious second half to come back so i’d say so.

  3. Jeff P.

It seems like the Class A Tournament may be more wide open than we thought…

  4. coach k

Thanks Stateman….Surprised by the North Salem-Brewster score. NS has been playing well lately. Expected a much closer game.

  5. Josh Thomson

Coach k… The game was close throughout. From I gather, John Jay was actually leading until Mahopac took control of the game in the third quarter.

  6. ???

Peekskill is going to win it all in “A”. County center stuff is just a formality. Don’t worry about seedings bc it just doesn’t matter.

Good luck to all the other classes competing because “A” is wrapped up.

never understood how josh to this point thought pleasantville or croton was a better team than briarcliff this season.

probably some bias of his in liking the coaches at the schools.
...briarcliff is clearly superior to croton or pleasantville, and maybe now josh has now figured this out? or maybe not? we will see with the next rankings

  9. Josh Thomson

westchesterman… I watched Croton and Briarcliff play the first time. Croton won. Did you see it otherwise?

  10. bclass

Think all three teams are evenly matched, Briarcliff has more talent than Pleasantville and Croton but are less consistent. They have some bad losses along with some very impressive wins. Beat Croton by 20 but loss to them in first game and last week they did not take lead and beat Westlake until last 10 seconds after beating them by lot of points a month earlier.

  11. A. Francis

Peekskill will win it! Panzanaro has guaranteed it on MSG VARSITY. COM! I just hope Lou is pulling a Namath and not a Rex Ryan guarantee!

B’Cliff is unpredictable…Regardless its still- Magnus-1 and Dobbs and Woodlands 2 and 3..
B’Cliif, PVille and Croton are all a wide margin behind.

Croton is not a hard team to figure out in that the coach is going to have his kid “huck” the ball up at the hoop till his arms are sore. But trust me on this… he will be high on the All State list in the seasons end by some strange coincidence, regarless as to how he or the team does..lol

B’Cliff- you dont know which Brian Daniels will show up and if the oppent has a big body to put on him he’s lost.

    P’Ville-just not that good…

  13. haha

When do grade come out? Lou needs to check the report cards before he goes guaranteeing anything. Oops I forgot he is the AD.

  14. Coach Reeves

Article on Sean Kilpatrick in the Cincinnatti paper.

    http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20120206/SPT0101/302060163/UC-s-Kilpatrick-shows-maturity?odyssey=mod%7Cnewswell%7Ctext%7CFRONTPAGE%7Cp

He says one of things he learned in the WPHS Basketball Program was to hustle to the sidelines.

  15. Josh Thomson

I agree with everything “bclass” wrote about the three teams. That has always been my stance on the three teams.

  16. Sillyme

With all the big talk before the season by Martian-o, will Brewster actually win a post season game this year???

  17. Larue

Not a Peekskill fan but they are playing the best

  18. Statesman

I think Brewster can get to the CC pending their pairings.

If Peekskill didn’t d.uck a certain opponent this season, I’d show them love. Since they did, my hat goes to TZ.
