Link: Dobbs re-dedication pays off vs. Woodlands
After a humbling blowout loss at home last month, Dobbs Ferry coach Scott Patrillo implored his players to shift their focus. They had come unglued emotionally against Woodlands, but they also lost their way on the court. If you saw that game, Dobbs didn’t pass and cut effectively whatsoever. The shots were poor, the results even worse.
The last four weeks, the Eagles worked on keeping their heads and keeping their flow on offense. They had won every game since, but none of them came against a team the caliber of Woodlands.
“After we lost to these guys last time, we knew this was a game we had to have,” Patrillo told me, as you can read in today’s story on LoHud.com. “Not for anybody else, but for us. We needed to know the work we put in during practice and the way we were focusing on the brand of basketball we want to play would be successful against a good team.”
The third quarter yesterday was something to behold. It offered a glimpse at why Dobbs Ferry still seems to have the goods — at its absolute best — to knock off Albertus Magnus. Everyone on the floor was involved. Gritty forwards John Yozzo-Scaperrotta and Danny Crowe opened space and found open teammates. Eric Paschall and Thomas Fleming made open shots and created them. And Spencer Avalos and Eddie Ritch were so tough on both ends of the floor.
When properly channeled, Dobbs might be the most passionate team in the section. It showed that yesterday. If they can keep it going, the Eagles will be tough to beat.
